AF wine for cooking is a brilliant idea - stops you needing to open a bottle and then just "having" to finish it off, so it doesn't go to waste! I had a couple of twinges yesterday - I was coming back from London and my habit in the past was to quite often have a drink on the train or a big drink when I finally get home. So, at various points in the day I'd think, oh I'll have a drink later. But I didn't - and interestingly some of the need for a drink was to do with dehydration, and a big swig of water really helped! Onwards!!

Breathmiller · 06/02/2020 12:15

Im doing tue 16:8 fasting ratger than 5:2 as i fond that a bit to much feast or famine for me. But if every day I can eat between 12 and 8 then it doesn't feel so long til I am doing without. I have IBS so giving my gut a chance to rest is always good.

Breathmiller · 06/02/2020 12:17

Oh FFS when will I learn to check for typos before I press send

ulvie · 06/02/2020 12:44

My partner asked if we should have our weekly bottle of wine tonight, instead of Saturday (we've done DJ and are now doing 300 days). I've said I'd prefer to leave it until Saturday. Reason 1 being that if we drink tonight we may well end up drinking on Fri or Sat too. Our drinking nights were always Thurs/Fri/Sat, so if we leave it til the Sat then we're in the clear for another week. Reason 2 is that I have a presentation to do at work in the morning, so whilst I don't think a half bottle of wine and bed by 11 will impact me hugely at work on the Friday, I'm enjoying my restful sleep and clear headedness at work.

Here's to drinking more mindfully, as prior to DJ I would have happily had a half bottle of wine on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday, without even thinking about it.

Natsku · 06/02/2020 19:00

I tried drinking some of the AF wine.... never doing that again, it is not good. Shall leave it for cooking with!

nibdedibble · 07/02/2020 16:54

I've had a really odd day. It was all normal and then I had a huge adrenalin rush out of nowhere and it's affected me all day. Feeling very blah.
DH and I had decided on a drink tonight and I'm in two minds about it! It'll no doubt calm me down, but it might be better to not have a drink at an 'unhealthy' time. I don't know.

myhandsareverycold · 07/02/2020 17:37

I'm craving but not caving!

Breathmiller · 07/02/2020 18:57

Im having a fizzy water in a wine glass with a lovely dinner my husband has cooked. It didnt even enter my head to have a drink. Woohoo!
I've also lost a couple of lbs doing vegan keto and 16:8. And I'm loving the food. I haven't had sugar or carbs for a few days. It feels good. I think I needed to get the sugar out of my system from over drinking in December. I think I'm at the stage of "I've gone this far, I'm not going to start from scratch again "

I'll be 6 weeks on Sunday!

Natsku · 07/02/2020 19:44

I had cravings earlier but they went away by the time I was done with bedtimes and now I'm more than happy with herbal tea and the thought of an early night rather than staying up drinking wine and then being tired in the morning.

SparklingLime · 07/02/2020 21:28

Vegan keto, @Breathmiller?! Wow! I’m struggling on basic keto. (AF: day 36).

Breathmiller · 07/02/2020 22:48

@SparklingLime I've only done a few days. I'm sure I'll get sick of smoothie bowls, avocado and cauliflower soon Grin
Although I'm loving the fats allowed, oil, nuts and seeds. I love broccoli, spinach, olives, nut butters.

I've even been having smoothie bowls based on cauliflower, spinach and avocado -then made ice lollies from it too. Surprisingly tasty.
I think because of the high fat I'm not feeling cold and hungry like I usually do on diets.
I'm very new to it. Have you done keto a while?

Awks · 08/02/2020 08:28

Hello all, can I join in please? Am doing the Alcohol Experiment online which is a 30 day alcohol free thing, it's actually really helpful. Am on day 12 and can't believe how much better I feel. Just need to cling to this feeling permanently as I generally do a period of abstinence and then cave and end up on a bottle of vino a night again. Desperately want to not do that any more, so hope this thread will be additional support 😀

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 08/02/2020 08:29

Wow @breathmiller, vegan keto sounds like a huge challenge, well done. I try to do ordinary keto, but I have some very tedious food i tolerances (avocado and eggs to start with!) that make it really hard to do quickly. Back to pseudo-keto this morning (I do eat fruit).

On the one hand, I've not been alcohol free the last two nights - one dreadful day when I probably shouldn't have drunk as I shouldn't use alcohol to unwind; and one planned drink after a day out with a friend. On the other hand, I've had a single 125ml glass both times, and then stopped. The stopper is firmly back in the bottle and I won't drink again now until I don't know when.

I'm really pleased I feel this calm about drinking and am no longer planning from weekend eve to weekend eve, when I can have the next glass.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 08/02/2020 08:30

Ooh, sorry Awks, cross-posted. The support hear is great, welcome.

Breathmiller · 08/02/2020 09:20

@IWillWearTheGreenWillow
Don't beat yourself up. One planned glass of wine is fine. And one glass as a slip up when you would rather have not had a drink is still a lot better than it would have been before isn't it?

Welcome awks . It really has been a wonderful support.

Natsku · 08/02/2020 10:24

Welcome awks

myhandsareverycold · 08/02/2020 18:04

Welcome @awks

This thread has been invaluable. Went out for a posh lunch today at a fish restaurant and positively salivated at all the other couples drinking delicious looking chilled white wine. I resisted however and stuck to fizzy water.

Out tonight too. Designated driver so that will stop me. I'm on day 38 and was going to do 6 weeks but now I'm going till end of this month. Want new habits firmly embedded so I never go back to my old destructive drinking habits.

It is hard though. The app is a god send though. I love seeing the dry streak and evening having one glass would mean going back to the beginning and I'm not doing that!

Breathmiller · 08/02/2020 19:53

@myhandsareverycold
Yeehaa!! Now the new line is the end of the month. Its out there. I'm in!

Breathmiller · 08/02/2020 19:53

I bought a treadmill today. Very proud of myself. 🙂

Awks · 09/02/2020 08:02

Thanks for the welcome all, am looking forward to going more with no booze, just the thought of holidays without an ice cold beer seem so miserable. That's the sticking block in my head, the rest of life without alcohol seems completely doable and actually much better.

Wow re the treadmill - excellent purchase 😬

SparklingLime · 09/02/2020 08:24

@Breathmiller I’m boggling at the idea of cauli lollies! I’m on day 14 of keto, I’ve done it before but years ago. Very impressed by your version.

Breathmiller · 09/02/2020 08:37

sparklinglime
Oh I'm impressed with your 14 days.
My smoothie that got turned inyo ice lollies also had raw cacoa, some berries and peanut butter. So not all cauliflower and spinach. The other, (nicer one) had cauliflower, spinach, avocado, berries, almond butter and natursl coconut yoghurt. It was really nice as a smoothie bowl topped with nuts, berries and seeds.
Any recipe ideas of yours that can be adapted to vegan would be great. I had a lovely aubergine parmigiano last night without the parmesan obviously. It was delicious.

Breathmiller · 09/02/2020 08:41

awks I find Heineken 0.0 fine when I want a cold beer substitute. But its not to everyones taste. My husband makes his own craft ales and looks at me like I'm some sort of heathen. 🤣 but I'm not a beer drinker so I don't know the difference. Whereas he couldn't tell a shiraz from a blue nun. Grin

SparklingLime · 09/02/2020 10:05

@breathmiller, ooh, I’m going to investigate smoothie bowls! I’m not really using recipes as such, just bunging eggs, avo, salmon etc together in various combinations - no good at all for you! I’m using Diet Doctor quite a bit, but when I looked at their vegan section I see its low carb rather than full keto but some recipes might be useful: www.dietdoctor.com/new-low-carb-vegan-guide-meal-plan

To those enjoying cake with their AF beverages: sorry for the derail.

Breathmiller · 09/02/2020 11:19

Thanks sparklinglime some really useful advice and recipes on that site.

Yes, sorry for the derail folks. Cauliflower lollies are not necessary to give up alcohol.

(Mmmm...cake! Grin)
