If you have a really comfy sofa, where’s it from?

Dh and I have decided to stop throwing money away on crappy second hand sofas every few years and actually fork out for a really good new one. But we have no idea where to start as pretty much all of our stuff is secondhand.
I think our biggest issue is height difference, dh is 6’5 and I’m 5’7 and dh rarely seems comfortable on sofas. The one we did have that was comfy for him was far too deep in the seat for me and I couldn’t really sit on it, it was a case of curling up which is lovely and cosy but I have a bad back and it’s not the best thing to be doing. Totally expecting that we’re both going to have to compromise, but does anyone have any recommendations?

I have 3 sofas in my house. 1 John Lewis, 1 small Ikea and 1 DFS.

DFS sofa is the comfiest and has kept it's shape the best. I think I paid about £1400 for it in a "sale" about 6 years ago & I've been so pleased. Really comfy and looks great.

loubielou31 · 14/01/2020 16:25

Marks and Spencers. The comfiest sofas I have had! I sold one recently because we'd moved and needed a different size and the replacement is Ercol so not cheap but no where near as comfy. Both were/are 15 years old. The fabric is still in really good condition, the cushions are still firm and in good shape and really comfy! (When we bought there was a discount if you opened a m&s credit card, something like that may still exist) the big sofa was around the £1400 when we bought it but 15 years of service and still going strong means they were excellent value for money.

My previous one was from Next. That was very comfortable.
I replaced it last year with a John Lewis one, which is also very comfortable.

G Plan

NuggetsAhoy · 14/01/2020 16:43

Ikea Ekrorp. Had one for years (9y), moved into a bigger house, so moved the original up in the office and bought a second and third for the living room. Now in the living room we have the 3 seater with chaise and the 3 seater.

We thought about spending more but a friend of our redid her living room a couple of years ago and spent a fortune on her sofas. They look the part, but by god they are uncomfortable.

So we thought 'We know the ektorp is comfortable, so lets stick with it'
2 sofas, £800, perfect.

nibdedibble · 14/01/2020 16:47

G Plan here. So comfortable but I'm not 6'5".

PepsiLola · 14/01/2020 16:48

DFS, their show rooms are massive so you can walk round and sit on everything.

My couch needs replacing now, it's around ten years old. I would buy again from there

TenaciousP · 14/01/2020 16:51

We have this one from Duresta. It's huge, and so comfortable.

I would go to all the big stores you have locally that sell sofas and try them out.

LemonPrism · 14/01/2020 16:58

Gumtree :) £75 and the comfiest thing in the world lol

LemonPrism · 14/01/2020 16:59

Our new one was awful from Sofa.com or something

MzHz · 14/01/2020 16:59

When we were looking for a sofa, we were really impressed with the range at DFS. Really good looking and comfy

That said we went for a sofa from Sofas and Stuff because it was the size we wanted and absolutely the comfiest sofa we’d ever sat on.

LuvMyBoyz · 14/01/2020 17:01

Ektorp for me, too! It replaced a John Lewis sofa which was 10 times more expensive and far less comfortable. Ektorp have washable covers as well. Had it a year and still looks like new. It’s as comfortable as the M&S sofas we had made to our specifications. Wish I’d trusted IKEA sooner and saved myself a fortune.

GrannyBags · 14/01/2020 17:02

Two black leather sofas from DFS 12 years ago. Comfy enough to sleep in and have survived kids and cats. Still look good.

NuggetsAhoy · 14/01/2020 17:03

@LuvMyBoyz and you can get a second set of cover if you fancy a change. Our original is red, and the new ones in dark grey.

Bananaman123 · 14/01/2020 17:06

We bought a lazyboy set, high seats meaning my knees dont kill me getting up, recliner has lots of back support and whole seat reclines not just feet. Honestly its amazing. We got the 3 seater so each half is a seat and a half, then there is middle compartment with storage, cup holders and speakers. Also got the love seat and footstool. Its not everyones taste but it suits us, went for choc brown cord.

Looks ugly in this but the comfort far outweighs that for me, no more sore joints

Snog · 14/01/2020 17:08

Our Sofa Workshop ones are good quality and comfortable too

HerculesMulligan · 14/01/2020 17:11

My husband is 6'4" and loves our sofa which came from The Lounge Company.
