If you have a really comfy sofa, where’s it from?

Dh and I have decided to stop throwing money away on crappy second hand sofas every few years and actually fork out for a really good new one. But we have no idea where to start as pretty much all of our stuff is secondhand.
I think our biggest issue is height difference, dh is 6’5 and I’m 5’7 and dh rarely seems comfortable on sofas. The one we did have that was comfy for him was far too deep in the seat for me and I couldn’t really sit on it, it was a case of curling up which is lovely and cosy but I have a bad back and it’s not the best thing to be doing. Totally expecting that we’re both going to have to compromise, but does anyone have any recommendations?

We have a cheap Ikea one called Ektorp
which is very comfortable.

You can’t beat dfs.

Dfs. We have a large corner sofa which you can lay out on, it's so comfy!

Pollaidh · 14/01/2020 17:23

You need to spend a lot of time in sofa shops, take your shoes off, sit and read a magazine.

We've had a comfortable Habitat (Porto), but also a less comfortable one. Also have a Sofas.com one which is very comfortable. Ikea Ektorp is ok but wouldn't want in my main house (it's in a holiday house) as not comfortable enough.

Recently bought another sofa, and got stuck in the shop for ages, we sat down on a random incredibly ugly sofa for over an hour whilst we waited. It was probably the most supportive, comfortable sofa I've ever sat on. Unfortunately it was also the ugliest - really bulky, leather, but really high back and good depth, and supportive. No way would we have had it anywhere near our house, it looked like something from a 1980s ad.

My John Lewis sofa, very comfy and easy to maintain.

Another Next vote. I've never had such a comfy, smart looking sofa.

Livebythecoast · 14/01/2020 17:34

We bought a new one from DFS in 2017. It's so comfortable. I can't see they still do it now but the clovelly pillow back is very similiar.

cheesewitheverything · 14/01/2020 17:40

Loaf Souffle (high legs) brand new recently and a 18 year old John Lewis (just re-covered) Gable which they no longer make. Other sofas have come and gone over the years and have been dreadfully uncomfortable (I'm looking at you, Tetrad).

spiderlight · 14/01/2020 17:44

FW Homestores. It's this one - soooo comfy, and plenty big enough for three and a dog!

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 14/01/2020 17:45

My DFS sofa is absolutely shite! I've had it 6 months and it's sagging soo badly. They've been out to check it and have said it's just how they are now!
Horrible customer service, and shite creaky horrible sofa that makes my back hurt. It's horrible for lying on as well. I'm going to get rid of it, even though I've still got to pay it off. It

Maybe they were good a few years ago, but I'll never buy from them again

Back to ikea for me.

PolloDePrimavera · 14/01/2020 17:46

DFS, honestly really comfy. It's in vintage brown leather and kind of looks better with scratches.

PassMeAnotherCoffee · 14/01/2020 17:49

Have you got space for two small sofas? So you each have one that fits you?

Nobody in this house is as tall as 5'7" so I don't think our recommendations would be much use! Our kids still have an ancient Ikea Ektorp which is perfectly comfortable after 17+ years. You can get replacement covers for very little.

Branleuse · 14/01/2020 17:50

I always get my sofas second hand now, mainly because you can actually tell how comfy they are when theyre worn in. You cant tell that with a brand new one. The only time I bought an expensive new one, it was shit within months. I regretted it.

The last two ive bought have been from the heart foundation shop. I sat on them, laid on them. My sofa now is the comfiest thing ever

sanityisamyth · 14/01/2020 17:54

Ikea Ektorp. 5 seater corner sofa. It's my favourite thing I've ever bought 😍

combatbarbie · 14/01/2020 17:55

Sofology!! We have the renatta 3 seater and love chair, they are deep, high backed and spacious. Can get 2 snuggled on the live chair and 4 seated on the 3 seater

Happinessinapeartree · 14/01/2020 18:00

DFS are crap. Our seats and back cushions went saggy very quickly.

Anyone but them tbh

MadamShazam · 14/01/2020 18:27

My DFS one is amazingly comfy, and wasn't that expensive. Easy to take the the covers off and wash too.
