I wanted to be married to Kevin Keegan. Instead I work in finance

All I ever wanted, for as long as I have memory, was to be a mummy. So very much.

Endless miscarriages and five pgs that reached 2nd trimester and three that reached third I managed two dc. They are 25 and 21 now.

Before the first was born I was an investment banker; now I am HR Director of a large and complex organisation - and yet I only ever wanted to be a mummy, the greatest job in the whole wide world. It was sooo hard getting there

howdoesthisworkagain · 12/01/2020 22:37

I wanted to be a writer, air hostess then briefly join the circus.

I work in comms. I did a flying trapeze once.

Velveteenfruitbowl · 12/01/2020 22:38

I assumed I’d become a doctor then moved to Britain just before starting university so that was no longer possible. Ended up a tax consultant instead.

Oddsocks2 · 12/01/2020 22:39

I wanted to be a musician or a teacher.
I’ve worked in orchestras all my life and have also done instrumental teaching.

DecemberSnow · 12/01/2020 22:40

Weffiepops · 12/01/2020 22:41

I wanted to be a ballerina, closest I came was a podium dancer when I was at uni (not the slutty type).

I'm now a director in construction!

Jaxhog · 12/01/2020 22:41

Astronaut, then Architect. I ended up in IT!

I did do a degree in Architecture though and married an Architect.

bananajelly · 12/01/2020 22:43

A vet, until I realised I would have to stick my arm up a cows bum.
Then I thought I'd be a veterinary nurse instead, only to realise I didn't really like many animals.....only cats Hmm

OhTheRoses · 12/01/2020 22:45

@Londonsuffolkmummy I know. Flowers.

TrainspottingWelsh · 12/01/2020 22:47

A stuntman. Think I was about 8 when I realised they had to do loads of boring stuff and standing around, rather than just the dangerous fun stuff. Wasn't that much of a disappointment because at that age I intended to combine it with being an Olympic rider.

Whatdayisit2 · 12/01/2020 22:57

KatyaZamolodchikova · 12/01/2020 23:25

I wanted to be a travel agent, then when I got to 6th for I wanted to be an art therapist. I have never done either and have worked in HR for the last 10 years. I do love my job though.

ForestYeti · 12/01/2020 23:26

A lorry driver, ended up in admin. Remember a class mate in primary wanted to be a police horse

Cattenberg · 12/01/2020 23:30

I’ve wanted to be an author since I was about six, but have never really gone for it.

Also, I knew I’d need a day job, and in rough chronological order, I’ve wanted to be a policewoman, cake shop owner, trapeze artist, archaeologist, RAF pilot and primary school teacher.

I’m not at all suited to most of these. I probably have dyspraxia and I’m not at all authoritative. One day I’ll work out what I want to be when I grow up.

Anything that didn't involve computers or being self employed. Now I do both as I'm a photographer.

Cattenberg · 12/01/2020 23:33

Ooh, I’d love to have been a Victorian lady explorer. They were so brave and resourceful, and in those days, some of the world maps had large blank areas marked “unexplored regions”.

AdrenalineJunkieMummy · 12/01/2020 23:38

I wanted to be a teacher in primary then in secondary I went through
Mechanic
Police officer
Secret agent
Sniper
Stunt motorcycle daredevil
Then for GCSEs converted back to teacher but specifically teaching music!

I am now an engineering lecturer who does most of the other ideal jobs as hobbies so I feel I achieved them all 😆

teejayem · 12/01/2020 23:41

Originally Doctor, then Aircraft crash investigator.

I'm now a HR Director

Aimily · 12/01/2020 23:44

I wanted to do radio production from about the age of 12 to 16, then studied polices for Alevel and decided I wanted to become a political journalist.
I'm a virtual personal assistant.
