Which TV series did you used to enjoy but can't rewatch?

I was a huge Sex and the city fan when it was originally on and later got the DVD box set, but if I catch any of it now I don't enjoy it. I guess part of it was that as a teenager their life was so glamorous and exciting whereas now they all get on my nerves and none are particularly likeable.
Which shows are you disappointed by when you go back to them?

Game of thrones for me too, I still rewatch it because it is amazing. I just pretend it finishes a couple episodes in to last season!

Ugly Betty and Glee for me. Really enjoyed it when I was watching them weekly, now all a bit cringe for me.

100% agree on satc. I loved it so much but now see they’re so self absorbed, it’s unbearable. I don’t like any of them.

MissCharleyP · 12/01/2020 09:10

Glee, Fawlty Towers also.

Absolutely Fabulous - loves it as a teen but it’s just dreadful. Had a few good lines “You can drop the attitude, you only work in a shop!” but ultimately about two overpaid, self-obsessed, vain, vacuous women.

Oh yes splattt I rewatched Scrubs last year...I wish I could erase the Interns series from my mind both otherwise it’s still awesome! We’re going to steak night..we’re gonna eat it right Grin

DurannieDeckingTheHalls · 12/01/2020 09:25

Ally McBeal is now on Amazon Prime.... really awful on rewatch!

ScribblyGum · 12/01/2020 09:25

ER. Used to adore it. Started rewatching it a few months ago and it could be used in HCP teaching now as ‘what not to do’. The paternalistic attitudes and total fixation on the biomedical model made my armpits itchy. Benton is a profound and contemptible cunt to Carter. Outrageous way to teach and mentor your student. Wish he had come to a sticky end with a helicopter interface during episode 2.
I found all my sympathies were with the nurses and Gerry the receptionist, while I detested every single doctor in the cast by about episode 6.I had to stop, it was making me shouty.

ScribblyGum · 12/01/2020 09:29

I am rewatching GoT right now. On series 3 and it’s still fantastic, the boob-watch count is right down too which is nice. Unsure whether I’ll buy the final season to watch or just wait for George to finish the series properly in the books.

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 12/01/2020 09:30

Nothing original to add really - I used to love Family Guy but in retrospect the misogyny is disgusting. Can't bear to watch anything Seth MacFarlane is involved with now.

Men Behaving Badly was definitely of its time and I thought it was hilarious as a teenager. It's just tired and a bit crude now. Not hugely offensive or anything, just not funny.

Controversially, I Claudius doesn't stand up terribly well in parts. There are still elements of it that are great, but the cheap sets and the 70s overacting from some of the cast (I'm looking at you, Messalina) make it hard to enjoy properly now. It's one classic series I'd love to see remade.

Doubleraspberry · 12/01/2020 09:32

Absolutely Fabulous ... about two overpaid, self-obsessed, vain, vacuous women.

But that was the whole point. Confused

Ihatesundays · 12/01/2020 09:39

DH still finds Men Behaving Badly hilarious. It’s just depressing now.

I’m actually rewatching ER. I think I enjoy it as I remember everything.

Dawson’s Creek is utter utter shit now. Even Pacey couldn’t keep me watching.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 12/01/2020 09:46

One born every minute. Used to love it. Then got pregnant and now can't watch it for the awful information and my complete mistrust of midwives who traumatised me.

burnoutbabe · 12/01/2020 09:46

I am actually rewatching the hills and just find it amusing, having recently watched the hills new beginnings abc thinking omg Audrina, even 10 years later you still are dithering about Justin Bobby!
Glee is funny on rewatch, so woke at the time and quite problematic now.

I would never rewatch scandal. I hate watched that by the end.

onemouseplace · 12/01/2020 09:51

Game On. I LOVED it when it was on and then found it a few weeks ago somewhere and made DH watch the first couple of episodes with me - SO awful now!

Ribenaberriesgowoo82 · 12/01/2020 09:56

So from a slightly different angle to all of you, I can't complete watching Suits at the moment. I binged the first several series at the beginning of this pregnancy when I was first diagnosed with HG and I now can't watch it as my brain associates with feeling so awful. Just writing this post is making my stomach turn over.

Really want to watch last 2 series!!

chomalungma · 12/01/2020 10:07

If Deborah or Dorothy from Men Behaving Badly were on AIBU or relationships, I think they would have been told to LTB almost immediately.

DS thinks MBB is hilarious. But he's been told they are definitely not role models...

Ridingthegravytrain · 12/01/2020 10:16

On prime just tried re watching Dawson’s creek, teachers and ally mcbeal. All so rubbish and disappointing. I was particularly looking forward to teachers

BarkandCheese · 12/01/2020 10:22

I saw the title of this thread and immediately thought of Sex and the City. I know the characters weren’t meant to be role models, but you were supposed to root for them despite their flaws. Watching it back they’re just a horrible, spoilt and entitled bunch of people with no redeeming features.

midsomermurderess · 12/01/2020 10:28

Way way back when I was a kid, Shoestring. If Bergerac can be rerun endlessly, why not this. It would probably be crap, but I'd still like to give it a go.

jay55 · 12/01/2020 10:29

Glee for me too and friends.
I did rewatch SATC a couple of years ago and enjoyed it for the fashion time capsule.

Caramel78 · 12/01/2020 10:34

I used to find Family Guy hilarious ten years ago. Not so much anymore.

I still love Friends now but have definitely noticed what a controlling prick Ross is. Never used to pick up on it at all when I was younger.

ShowOfHands · 12/01/2020 10:47

I'm rapidly falling out of love with Big Bang. They're all terrible people who do terrible things. I love Sheldon's Mum and Lesley Winkle and I don't mind Penny but the others are appalling.

Pascha · 12/01/2020 10:53

Many comedy series. X-files looks shit now, Friends is unbearable, the Royle Family doesn't do well a second time round. I can't watch drama a second time either, once I know the ending the intrigue is gone. All that Killing Eve, Broadchurch, murder-mystery programming is just boring a second time round.

burnoutbabe · 12/01/2020 10:56

Ohhh is ally mcbeale on prime? I have that so I shall try and rewatch.
And once and for all get over my hatred of Robert Downey jr who had to dump ally as he had issues in the actors own life.
(Am loving Richard in greys now, he was always my favourite)

DurannieDeckingTheHalls · 12/01/2020 11:55

@burnoutbabe ... must confess Robert DJ was one of my reasons for rewatching... haven't got to his episodes yet, might just skip ahead as I'm finding it somewhat tedious and cringey....wasn't Jon Bon Jovi I'm it for a while too, or did I imagine that??

DurannieDeckingTheHalls · 12/01/2020 11:55

In not I'm!
