How do you take the top of your soft boiled eggs

After being with DH for 13 years weve this morning noticed that we take the top off our dippy eggs differently.

How do you do yours?

I hit the top with the back of a teaspoon so it's all smashed then scoop the top off with the spoon

DH hits his with a sharp knife to make a tiny slit and then saws through the (unsmashed) shell.

Smash with a spoon then take the top off with a knife.

Like you. You have to smash the top in to stop it cooking, otherwise if you have more than one egg the second one will be hard boiled by the time you finish eating the first one.

Chemenger · 11/01/2020 09:16

I use a knife like your DH of course. Then you eat the part out of the top first (and if you are my DF put salt in that part to use for the rest of the egg). Then when the whole egg is eaten you put the spoon through the bottom of the main part of the shell so the witches can’t use it as a boat.

Smash it then spoon like you.

I haven’t had egg and soldiers for yonks, that’s this morning’s breakfast decided 👍

HeyChief · 11/01/2020 09:21

A mix between you and your DH. I use the edge of a spoon to crack all around the circumference of the top bit of the egg, then use my spoon to lift it off.
My DH smashes the whole top and I don’t like it!
When the egg is eaten I also smash it so that witches can’t use it as a boat and escape out to sea Grin

EnidBlyton · 11/01/2020 09:21

smash the top, i used to use a spoon but more lately cut it with a knife so i can dip the soldiers.

EnidBlyton · 11/01/2020 09:21

we always used to turn it upside down in the eggcup after finishing, for some jokey reason

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 11/01/2020 09:24

Tap tap tap peel

Dilbertian · 11/01/2020 09:43

I want a dippy egg now!

Same! Even did it as an adult Blush

Motherofmonsters · 11/01/2020 09:57

Oo lots of different ways. I didn't realise an egg topper was a thing!

I use the edge of the spoon to cut it then take the top off.

drivingtofrance · 11/01/2020 10:06

I think I ll have boiled eggs for my post gym snack.

If I can find the egg cups?

Aunty5ocial · 11/01/2020 10:07

My DH peels the WHOLE egg. Considering LTB.

JonnyPocketRocket · 11/01/2020 10:11

and if you are my DF put salt in that part to use for the rest of the egg

This is ingenious. I use the tap-with-a-knife-then-saw method, and from now on will also be adopting @Chemenger DF's salt technique.

Paddingtonthebear · 11/01/2020 10:15

I turn a teaspoon upside down and the use the side edge to tap the side of the edge until it starts cracking. Then I turn the teaspoon up the right way and push it into the side of the egg to scoop the lid off the egg.

Husband cannot do this at all and ends up in a right mess with his smashed up eggs 😆Confused

EnidBlyton · 11/01/2020 10:20

I remember going to stay with a friend, who offered boiled eggs for breakfast, she had No egg cups ShockSad
i have never forgotten and make sure my dd have egg cups when they leave home for uni, they are not terribly impressed however.

Oblomov20 · 11/01/2020 10:22

Cut it with a knife. I regularly have 2 eggs and soldiers.

FrogsFrogs · 11/01/2020 10:24

Tap tap tap peel

blackteaplease · 11/01/2020 10:24

I do your DH's method. There are fewer bits of egg shell to deal with

happinessischocolate · 11/01/2020 10:35

What's with all this tapping and smashing 😂

I just cut the top off with the knife that I buttered the solders with 😁

SlowSigh · 11/01/2020 10:38

I use a bread knife. Once eaten, turn the empty shell upside down and smash it in because there is a witch inside

Motherofmonsters · 11/01/2020 10:48

I never knew that eggs and witches are connected, I've learnt something new

OP posts:
Apolloanddaphne · 11/01/2020 11:23

I slice the top off with a knife. Surely if you smash the top you can't eat that bit? I carefully scoop out the little bit of egg from the bit I cut off and eat it first. Then on to dipping my toast soldiers.
