How do you take the top of your soft boiled eggs

After being with DH for 13 years weve this morning noticed that we take the top off our dippy eggs differently.

How do you do yours?

I hit the top with the back of a teaspoon so it's all smashed then scoop the top off with the spoon

DH hits his with a sharp knife to make a tiny slit and then saws through the (unsmashed) shell.

@SlowSigh that's brilliant thank you.

I peel the whole egg before serving, then spoon off the top and eat

@Chemenger that made me smile. We did exactly the same growing up and for the same reason we’re very careful about horseshoes and umbrellas too although I was always torn between witches sitting in them and good luck being emptied out depending on which way up etc.

I also eat mackerel fillets out of a tin with just a fork.

Lunatics! Of course you cut the top off carefully, smashing with a spoon is common. Next you'll be telling me you don't have grape scissors ✂

Does no-one else uphold the time-honoured tradition of the egg joust? Slice the top with a knife, eat, and then turn the egg upside down in its cup and hold a joust across the breakfast table. Trumpeting and neighing is obligatory. The winning egg shell is rinsed and sits in pride of place on the windowsill until the next tournament is held Grin
