Feel like I've run out of good podcasts...

Can anyone recommend anything binge-able please? I like true crime, Serial, In the Dark etc and any kind of gripping story - The Drop Out, Doctor Death etc
Feel like I've exhausted the BBC Radio 4 / 5 ones, and I've listened to lots of things I'd not been that bothered about because I was desperate. Are there any gems I might have missed? I need a new podcast for while I do housework!

Have you listened to The Missing Cryptoqueen i found it completely fascinating.

EnterFunnyNameHere · 07/01/2020 19:27

Try Redhanded for true crime. I love it! Or Crime Junkies but that can be a bit "omg hun" at times...

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 07/01/2020 19:29

Just finished Bear Brook, an excellent true crime podcast, very well made.
Just started Up and Vanished. Excellent!

'Criminal' with Phoebe Judge is great.

So is 'Lore' with Aaron Mahnke.

Anything other than true crime you enjoy?

crackingowlsanctury · 07/01/2020 19:33

The lady vanishes is excellent. It's a true story about a daughter who's trying to find her missing mum. She left home in Australia to travel to England 22 years ago and hasn't been seen or heard of since. I'm hooked

NymphInYellow · 07/01/2020 19:33

I've just finished Cold. It's one crime covered in depth over a series. I also enjoy Casefile, which is mostly one episode per crime.

Cheesewine · 07/01/2020 19:36

Listen to my favourite murder. It's true crime but it's like two friends just chatting. I love it and I'm fussy.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 07/01/2020 19:37

Not true crime but I’m loving George the Poets right now. I didn’t expect to but it’s marvellous.

AWhistlingWoman · 07/01/2020 19:51

I came on to recommend Cold but Nymph beat me to it!

If true crime is your thing, how about...
Extraordinary Stories Podcast?
Somebody Knows Something?
Teacher's Pet?
The lighthouse?
Sick?
The last one is a little like Dr Death.

If you like science, stats or audiodrama, I have more recommendations!

TouYube · 07/01/2020 19:53

Also try Real Crime Profile. Superb.

On bbc sounds, The Doorstep Murder is good

On audible, West Cork is good, and free

Shreds, on Apple Podcasts is good. So is S-Town.

poorbuthappy · 07/01/2020 19:54

Patient Zero about Lyme disease. Very interesting.
End of days about Waco. Again very interesting!!!

TouYube · 07/01/2020 19:55

Body of Proof, is another good freebie from audible

AWhistlingWoman · 07/01/2020 19:55

Argh, it is Someone Knows Something!

Also Hunting Warhead and To Catch and Kill - huge trigger warnings on both of those.

Something more white collar...
Swindled and The Dream (about MLM scams)

isshoes · 07/01/2020 19:56

Completely different genre but Joan and Jericha is hilarious.

poorbuthappy · 07/01/2020 19:56

For something less crimey and more woooooooo the case of Charles dexter ward and the whisperer in darkness.
Both based on HP Lovecraft stories.
Very well done.

TouYube · 07/01/2020 19:56

Also try Paradise, and Who the Hell is Hamish, on apple podcasts.

I like Stuff You Should Know, too and Revisionist History

SophieSong · 07/01/2020 19:59

Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow is excellent so far.

Nuffaluff · 07/01/2020 20:01

There’s this absolutely brilliant one called S-Town.
It’s intriguing, got mystery, it’s sad and thought provoking. Real life, full of twists.

redexpat · 07/01/2020 20:01

Yy to Joan and Jerricha. Also My Dad wrote a porno.

I binged one on the Wests recently and Im not much of a true crime fan, but I love a story well told. Unheard: the Fred and Rose West tapes.

Have you heard S-town?

Theres a podcast section under film and tv with lots of suggestions.

redexpat · 07/01/2020 20:02

Omg and Dirty John!

bringbacksideburns · 07/01/2020 20:02

Nearly finished Up and Vanished. The Teacher's Pet is worth a listen if you listen to true crime.

I also listen to The No Sleep podcasts sometimes - can be hit and miss but the odd good un.

ComeOnGordon · 07/01/2020 20:03

I know it’s not true crime but the podcast that I always look forward to a new one is This American Life. I love that they’re an hour long and the variety of topics is great. The one about The Farewell had me totally enthralled.
Some of the Radiolab ones are also like that

Twitney · 07/01/2020 20:04

Thank you all!

The Missing Cryptoqueen - loved this
Redhanded for true crime. I love it! Or Crime Junkies - will try these, thanks!
Bear Brook - will try this, thank you!
Up and Vanished- I couldn't get on with the narration of this one for some reason. Maybe I should try again.
Criminal - I adore this and have listened to every ep
Lore - haven't heard of this, thank you
The lady vanishes - loved this and all The Australian podcasts actually Cold - enjoyed this
Casefile - liked this one too
my favourite murder - I think I listened to the first two eps of this and found it a bit forgettable, but I'll try again, thanks!
George the Poets - I'll take a look, thanks.

It's not just True Crime I like, I like anything factual, just not that bothered about ' My Dad Wrote a Porno' or the more magaziney/ entertainment podcasts, but willing to try anything really!

Thanks again for the recommendations.

I like The bottom line and Mire or Less on Radio 4.

PineappleDanish · 07/01/2020 20:07

In addition to ones already mentioned....

Fake Heiress - about a woman who conned people out of thousands pretending to be a German millionaire

Paradise - central American murder story

Story Cast - first one is about Brinks Mat, the second series about a woman found dead on Prestwick beach

Death in Ice Valley - it's a BBC one so you might have heard it but excellent,

Strange Death of Innes Ewart - this one I remember well when it happened and it has me totally baffled.

Believed - about Larry Nasser the gymnastics coach who abused dozens of girls. It's strong stuff though and very shocking.

Finding Cleo - cannot recommend this one highly enough, you think it starts off as a murder/true crime thing and goes off at a tangent. very, very well put together.

Also totally invested in The Lady Vanishes - most baffling case which might be a missing person, might be a murder, might be something else entirely.
