Feel like I've run out of good podcasts...

Can anyone recommend anything binge-able please? I like true crime, Serial, In the Dark etc and any kind of gripping story - The Drop Out, Doctor Death etc
Feel like I've exhausted the BBC Radio 4 / 5 ones, and I've listened to lots of things I'd not been that bothered about because I was desperate. Are there any gems I might have missed? I need a new podcast for while I do housework!

Ooo some of these sound really interesting! Thanks op and pp for the recommendations. Have never listened to podcasts and was wondering where to start so this is a great help.

PineappleDanish · 07/01/2020 20:09

Other factual stuff I love:

You're Dead to Me - History podcast from Radio4 which is very good

Ologies - has hit and miss episodes depending on how engaging that particular "ologist" is.

BloodyCats · 07/01/2020 20:09

Sinisterhood

Plus loads mentioned above.

Sometimes I listen to old Adam & Joe shows because they were just so funny and silly. They’re all on podrot.

I've only recently got into podcasts, but I've really enjoyed "this podcast will kill you", a sort of light hearted look at diseases throughout the ages, a different one each episode. They look at history, biology, symptoms, treatment etc.

All Killa no Filla!

Twitney · 07/01/2020 20:17

can't tell you how excited I am by the recommendations (sad but true!) thanks so much. Podcasts are what get me through boring parts of my day and stop my mind racing off to places I don't want to go so they are a bit of a comfort blanket to me and I've been gradually running out. Thanks again.

In addition! Series ones as opposed to one offs

Over my dead body
I’m listening to Blood Ties which is a bit like a radio drama not a narration but very good

Allmyfavouritepeople · 07/01/2020 20:20

Welcome to Nightvale is a podcast like no other.
It's a local radio station podcast but not like you know.

Autumnchill · 07/01/2020 20:20

Can't see these two recommended but my favourites:

Small Town Dicks
Best Case Worse Case

And if not already mentioned

The Thing About Pam
Who the Hell is Hamish
Murder Town
The Shrink Next Door

user13 · 07/01/2020 20:20

S town is very gripping if you haven’t listened to that. Casefile is also great..

Twitney · 07/01/2020 20:21

Others (not mentioned so far) I have listened to and enjoyed in case they're any use to anyone:

Cautionary Tales - kind of lessons from history
Office Ladies - about the (american) office
13 Minutes to the Moon
Friday Night Comedy on Radio 4 (Dead Ringers is so good)
Shagged Married Annoyed - easy listening
Uncover (escaping NXVIUM was amazing)
Beast of Man - Kevin Pietersen rhinos
Over My Dead Body - true crime

Bear Brook was an incredible crime podcast. I was hooked.

QueenofLouisiana · 07/01/2020 20:24

Stuff you missed in history class.
Gone.
No such thing as a fish (funny, not crime)
Crime Junkies.
Freakonomics Radio
They walk among us.

Autumnchill · 07/01/2020 20:24

If you like comedy, No Such Thing as a Fish - the QI Elves and Imagined Life is a good one to listen to as they tell a life story and you have to guess who it is

PlatoAteMySnozcumber · 07/01/2020 20:26

Breakdown is very close in style to serial and in the dark

Autumnchill · 07/01/2020 20:31

I've just gone searching and downloaded these:

The Storyteller; Murder Most Foul
Scene of the Crime
Detective Trapp
Murder in Oregon
Bardstown
Break in the Case

That should make my work journeys interesting!

poorbuthappy · 07/01/2020 20:36

Also 99 % invisible is also worth a listen.
It's mostly about design and the impact of good/ bad designs on society. It's as broad as litter bins and racoons to the drug lord who build a tunnel in Mexico.

AWhistlingWoman · 07/01/2020 20:42

True crime adjacent...

Malicious Life
Dark Net
About computer viruses and scams?

Uncover?
You Must Remember This? Scandals from the Golden Age of Hollywood 😊
What A Creep?
Trashy Divorces?

Hope some these appeal, I listen to a lot of podcasts for the same reasons Smile

snappycamper · 07/01/2020 20:43

Great thread, I have been looking for recommendations too.

I might have missed it but I don't think anyone has mentioned slow burn. I've just finished the third series and all of them have been great.

AWhistlingWoman · 07/01/2020 20:44

Just cross posted Uncover with your last post! The NXVIUM series was terrifying but so compelling.

snappycamper · 07/01/2020 20:45

Also, I know you said you've exhausted the R4 ones but fortunately is very funny and easy to listen to.

I also quite like the guilty feminist

NotPennysBoat · 07/01/2020 20:45

The Thing About Pam was recommended to me on here and had me absolutely hooked!

PurrBox · 07/01/2020 20:49

This American Life is often absolutely wonderful.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 07/01/2020 20:53

I’m really enjoying southern fried true crime at the moment
