Christmas Day, what didn't go to plan? We ended up in A & E.

DH slipped on the stairs this morning just as we were about to go to church.............I knew from the scream that it was bad! Packed the kids off to my mum and off we went to A & E. DH has a badly broken ankle which had to be manipulated and he is now in a cast - fracture clinic on Friday and it's likely he will need an operation to stabilise the spiral fracture to his fibular.
Staff at the hospital were amazing and we were back at my mums within 2 hours in time for Christmas Dinner.

Omg, horrific! I hope he has good painkillers.

AuntieDolly · 25/12/2019 16:39

Not quite on the same scale, but finished dressing the table and managed to drop a full bottle of amaretto in the floor. Man , that stuff is sticky!

BumbleBeee69 · 25/12/2019 17:06

Wow OP.. your poor husband Xmas Shock

boatyardblues · 25/12/2019 17:08

I’m nowhere near as drunk as I was expecting to be by now, but it’s a trivial matter.

Ninjakittysmellz · 25/12/2019 17:09

Oh your poor DH! And you!

On a much smaller scale I finally finished work yesterday and am so run down I’ve come down with full on woman flu. I feel terrible as DS just wants my attention and I just want to lie on sofa and die in peace. Not how I envisioned the day going!

Ninjakittysmellz · 25/12/2019 17:10

@boatyardblues I feel your pain. There’s still time to pull this back though, my thoughts are with you at this tough time Flowers

Inarightpickleandpreserve · 25/12/2019 17:11

I managed to leave all of DH presents at home.... safely under the tree.... until tomorrow when we get back....

Rubyroost · 25/12/2019 17:20

We didn't have Christmas. Put all the stuff in freezer last night as we finally admitted defeat as three out of five have flu.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/12/2019 17:22

DH woke up with man flu & has now gone back to bed. Dog managed to knock the knob on the oven & turn up the temperature from 160 °c to 220 °c (luckily rescued the potatoes in time & only burnt the parsnips 😊) i was only out of the kitchen for 10 mins. DD1 has come to stay & also has flu. She went to bed after dinner. I'm currently watching Elf in front of a roaring fire with a glass of bubbly 🥂. Rather peaceful actually!

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/12/2019 17:23

Well my gravy turned out a little thin.....

SagelyNodding · 25/12/2019 17:28

Well, nothing THAT bad, poor DH Xmas Sad but I'm full of cold, DH too and in my feverish last minute shopping trip I fucked up buying slippers for both DC-one pair the wrong size and the other clearly intended for girls (both kids are boys). Not sure what happened there!

BendingSpoons · 25/12/2019 17:32

Ouch, your poor DH.

My DS (10 months) is unwell and threw up down my mum's dress. Sorry mum!

UserPop · 25/12/2019 17:42

Your poor DH!

Nothing major here, DD2 woke up with a cold and refused to eat any of her dinner so has survived the day on pancakes (breakfast), a banana, dairylea dunkers and a orange instead Xmas Blush

Inniu · 25/12/2019 17:45

I think I may have broken my toe this morning. Knocked over a pile of folding chairs and one landed on my toe.

I don’t think A&E would do anything for it so tooo ibuprofen and made lunch for 11.

If I still in pain tomorrow I will go to A&E

Daisy7654 · 25/12/2019 17:45

I'm glad of this post as I need to off load! I dropped the turkey on the floor when taking it out of the oven!!. Luckily floor is clean so I wiped it off and put it back in for further bit.
Also DH picked up teatowel I had wiped floor with and was going to throw away and put it on side which was infuriating. Still only just forgiven him now.
Not the best :)
Another one over, hundreds of £££ lighter!

Portulaca · 25/12/2019 17:50

DS had a full on autism meltdown. Despite us playing Christmas right down, keeping it all v low key, & calm, minimal decorations, no Xmas music or tv unless he wanted it, he couldn't handle it. Has been throwing stuff, hitting DH & DD, broken things. Finally managing have dinner now. Has been v difficult day for him and us 😢

Celebelly · 25/12/2019 17:54

I caught hand foot and mouth from DD and my whole tongue is covered in open sores. I can only talk in the style of Rocky Balboa and could barely eat Christmas dinner. I'm so sore and emotional that I just wept like someone had died while watching Stick Man Sad

Dodie66 · 25/12/2019 18:00

I woke up with a migraine. DH was really good and cooked dinner but forgot to turn the oven up for cooking roasties etc so they took ages to cook. Then had a message from my son. My DIL had a triple bypass on Monday and was doing well. Last night they found the blood supply to her foot was blocked so she had to have another 5 hours surgery. They also found another problem that they sorted but she is not out of the woods yet. So not a good day

Sunnysidegold · 25/12/2019 18:01

Vomiting here since yesterday afternoon. Think husband has it now.

StarUtopia · 25/12/2019 18:02

Oh christ, hope he's ok. I did similar 3 years ago, and worst pain I've ever had. He will need a bit of support (difficult to do bloody anything with a leg in plaster, you can't even make yourself a coffee!)

FurrySlipperBoots · 25/12/2019 18:04

Poor guy!! I hope he mends quickly!

Here, the dog has gastroenteritis and it's been coming out both ends faster than we can mop it, I was up all night with her so pretty much fell asleep sitting up this morning, and Christmas dinner didn't happen. My mum's feeling really rough (she has ME) and my newly wed brother and his wife were really late arriving, and now they're here all they want to do is gaze at each other and giggle soppily which is making me want to chuck up. Also (and I know this is a spoiled-little-rich-girl problem!) but I asked my mum to keep things minimal this year as I don't 'need' a tonne of stuff I don't have room for and can't use - I'd rather we spent quality time together looking through old photos, watching a film, playing a board game etc - but she's given us piles of presents that we're going to have to plough through with repeated gratitude, which I do find very stressful.

StayDetermined · 25/12/2019 18:05

Two overexcited children has meant not a lot of time to myself, certainly not the Xmas I’d have enjoyed a few years ago. But DH cooked very well and overall it’s been a nice day.
Sorry about your day OP, I hope Boxing Day is better.

Justonedayatatime11 · 25/12/2019 18:06

Whole house has noro. Gone through all of us since Friday. Christmas cancelled. God knows what to do with all the food and drink. Plus side, I've lost 8lb Shock

kiki22 · 25/12/2019 18:06

Poor you and poor DH!

Everything has gone to plan for us but that is likely because we are having a big family dinner here tomorrow so it's been us with the kids and a picnic dinner I'm sure all the crap stuff will happen when I'm cooking tomorrow.

I have however banished dp and the dc to do various jobs while I lay down because all the sitting in the floor has triggered my sciatica 🙈

kiki22 · 25/12/2019 18:09

Oh I forgot my cupboard door came off but I've stuck that in the tomorrow problem pile.
