Anyone noticed that M&S has very little Xmas food?

Just that really. I’ve been in twice and there’s a definite lack of range in comparison with the past.

I don’t mean the shelves need restocking...I mean there’s not as much to buy. No novelty Xmas cakes, far fewer puddings, etc.

The art of separating people from their money at the tills has never been an M&S skill, they should take some lessons from Aldi!

StarlingsInSummer · 23/12/2019 18:52

We just spent £100 in there - decent dates on everything, loads of choice.... Maybe it depends on the store!

tigger1001 · 23/12/2019 19:04

I was very unimpressed by m&s. Not a great selection and other stores seem to have a far better range, and are better priced. Doubt I will bother with m&s next year

Aldi was similar no cooked ham joints, Christmas crackers or christmas savoury treats and cakes etc thin on the ground compared to previous years.

ShristmasChopper · 23/12/2019 19:13

I havnt been able.to find any Vol-au-vents this Christmas anywhere!
Desserts - ended up with Profiteroles and a Pavlov in the freezer. Nothingvlooked very special.or special enough for the over inflated price. Will be making my own trifle and mince pies.

Sexnotgender · 23/12/2019 19:18

I’m boycotting M&S anyway but went to Lidl today and got everything I needed. 15p for bags of sprouts and carrots!

Blingismything · 23/12/2019 19:34

My Simply food was great, they had a polar bear igloo fondant cake, loads of desserts with 26th or 28th, turkeys etc.

Disneydarlings · 23/12/2019 19:37

Very poor selection and use by dates. I wasn't the only one complaining about the dates on things either.

nitgel · 23/12/2019 19:40

Ours seems to have mega boxes of sprouts , potatoes and carrots and not much of anything else christmassy

GetRid · 23/12/2019 19:50

I did a big shop today and it was fine. Got lots of things in date and was impressed by the 40p bags of veg.

Just wish they'd get more environmentally friendly packaging - if it's in black plastic trays I'm not buying it!

Bluewavescrashing · 23/12/2019 19:57

I've heard 3 separate people say the stock in Marks is low, very short use by dates or completely sold out of a lot of stuff.

I've kept my usual Tesco weekly delivery slot (one was unavailable so I used Ocado as they added extra dates). We have a local Co op and Tesco express and DH is happy to pop out for extra bits if we need them.

I refuse to go inside a big supermarket at the moment. Stressful, time consuming and too many noro germs on the trolleys Xmas Envy

Goldwispa · 23/12/2019 20:07

I went to M and S to buy the Christmas Colin the caterpillar cake, when I asked a member of staff where it was she said, it's sold out today, they only send us four a day! This was in a large M and S store!

hotcrossbun4321 · 23/12/2019 20:59

YANBU - I have a giant one near me and still thought they had less choice of party food than last year. Also struggled to find a yule log. They did seem to have expanded their booze section though

Anjo2011 · 23/12/2019 21:36

My DH just went to collect our pre order. Our collection time was 8pm this evening, when he got there he was told that they had a problem with the supply of the turkey breast joint we had ordered and they did not have it. The member of staff took him to the fridges to offer a substitute.....he came home with a free range turkey three times the price of the one we had ordered...but the original price had been honoured. A good outcome for us but a costly substitute for M&S. He said the shelves were pretty much empty, no special deserts or Yule logs. This was an M&S food only store.

Mountian · 23/12/2019 21:51

For the first time in 20 years, I haven't got Christmas food from M&S.

The other supermarkets have now raised their game and you can get the same quality much cheaper there.

As food sales are supposed to be propping them up, then the future for them is starting to look bleak.

EduCated · 23/12/2019 22:02

Even things like the boxes of chocolates seem a poorer selection this year. Went in to look at their Christmassy ones for a present and it seemed to mostly be their usual ones they have year round, and a couple of seemingly over expensive boxes. There seemed to be very little in the mid-range.

Doubletrouble99 · 23/12/2019 22:03

Been into my local one today. Stuffed with Xmas food, just loads so really don't know what you are talking about.

Leeds2 · 23/12/2019 22:06

I had a M&S post on my FB feed today, saying they were aware that lots of other retailers had run out of turkeys, but that they had just had a new delivery and stores would have plenty to choose from tomorrow. Has there been a turkey shortage that I didn't know about?

EveHolt · 23/12/2019 22:07

Funny, I thought the same thing today.
For years we've bought the same things - the cranberry sauce with whole cranberries and port, labelled as such - the one I've just got is just labelled 'cranberry sauce' and you can see it's got port in but can't tell if it's the same.
The cabbage & apple side dish used to be one of many, I'm sure.
The veggie party range looked pretty awful.

One thing I bought was 3 days out of date already... loads of other stuff in store had today's date one.

There were 4 yule logs that I saw, the £5 standard one, £10 luxury one, £15 super luxury tree stump one, and a £10 frozen one which was more like black forest dessert, mousse etc.

Had to search for the Christmas puddings, too!

AntiHop · 23/12/2019 22:08

Plenty in my local. Well stocked .

confusednorthner · 23/12/2019 22:10

Has anyone seen the cranberry and clementine Buck's Fizz? It was lovely last year but tried two so far and no luck...

Doryhunky · 23/12/2019 22:12

See my other thread about the trifle!
No Yule logs
Either. And short
Dates!!

Dontstepinthecowpat · 23/12/2019 22:20

Consfusednorthner I bought the Buck’s Fizz the other day and it was reduced, looking forward to trying it. Heading to my local store first thing for my Christmas shop - really hope it’s not disappointing!

MollyButton · 23/12/2019 22:31

I managed to get a Vegan roast after 4 stores, but it was the last one in the store.

funmummy48 · 24/12/2019 05:14

I was in our very small M&S foodhall yesterday and it was wall to wall Christmas food and was rammed. I agree about the short dates though. Luckily, I only wanted a few things for Christmas Eve.
