Anyone noticed that M&S has very little Xmas food?

Just that really. I’ve been in twice and there’s a definite lack of range in comparison with the past.

I don’t mean the shelves need restocking...I mean there’s not as much to buy. No novelty Xmas cakes, far fewer puddings, etc.

Yes I’ve found the veggie selection to be rubbish in M&S this year. I went specifically for the mushroom en croutes that make up part of my family’s Christmas lunch to find they no longer stock them. We’ve been having this for the past 6 years at least. Really disappointing. I won’t be back to M&S next year if they don’t re-stock this. There’s just no point as you can get the same bits elsewhere

WorldsOnFire · 23/12/2019 14:36

I posted a thread about M&S a couple of days ago.
Limited stock- awful dates.
We went on Friday evening wanting to cater through to Boxing Day, bought some mince pies but put our trolley back and left. When we got home the mince pies had that same days date on- I was fuming!

Would usually have spent £150+ easily and we were not the only people. Crowds of us were stood trying to find desserts and canapés with any dates longer than 21st/22nd- nothing! Lots of people grumbling and leaving empty handed.

I’m not sure what’s gone on this Christmas but I think they’ll have lost a substantial amount of sales and wasted a lot of food this year.

They’ve always been my ‘go to’ for special occasions but this year I’ve really re thought it! Fed up of being let down and making wasted trips.

I think I need new glasses as Iread this as ‘the M25 has very little Xmas food’ 😆

Its the weirdest thing...im sure its worse this year

SingingLily · 23/12/2019 14:42

I'm boycotting M&S. My local store was struggling anyway so can't really afford to lose good customers, but it seems their target market is not what it once was.

RaeCJ82 · 23/12/2019 14:43

Loads at my local store, all with decent dates. They also had a section of the Christmas cakes that the OP mentioned they couldn't find...🤷‍♀️

frasersmummy · 23/12/2019 14:50

My local had loads of selection last week. As for early dates.. Pop it in the freezer for a little while.. Job done

StealthPolarBear · 23/12/2019 14:56

I sometimes feel there is too much choice. If some shops have stRted scaling back a bit that's good. Otoh party food dated the 22nd and nothing later is just stupid

Sssneks · 23/12/2019 15:19

I suspect a lot of their big Xmas stuff has to be preordered for collection. I really wanted to get their vegan "No Turkey" roast, which comes with sausages and gravy but missed the (really early) order date for ordering for collection and couldn't find it in a single shop (I went to three different M&Ses!!).

coconuttelegraph · 23/12/2019 15:24

Went back in on the 19th and it was dated the 24th...had to go back in on the 20th!!!!

Three trips for some cheese?! Seems an awful waste of time, nothing bad will happen if you eat cheese 14 hours after the date you know.

It seems to be a general theme that M & S have been a bit crap for food this year

golightlytoday · 23/12/2019 15:26

Was the same at our mands as previous years. Was a few different types of novelty cakes. Lots of Christmas deserts. Loads of party food, basic and posh and others.

All Christmas dinner stuff as normal too

YukoandHiro · 23/12/2019 15:31

I've been to Tesco, lidl and Waitrose in the last week and all three seem to have less than in previous years. I think it's a good thing actually

Notthisnotthat · 23/12/2019 15:33

Really poor in both my local branch and the one closer to work. Short dates on the veg and potatoes and Christmas treats. The turkeys were also delivered late today so they folk collecting food had to wait another 2 hours. Poor selection of fizz based drinks like Buck's Fizz or Kir Royale too.

IggyAce · 23/12/2019 15:37

This will be the 3rd year I haven’t bothered with M&S due to short dates. We used to get a selection of party foods for Boxing Day but one year went in the 22nd and all the dates were 24th and there was even out of date stock.
No room in the freezer to buy in advance so don’t bother. Perhaps there is an increase of people like me and they have ordered less stock this year.

enjoyingscience · 23/12/2019 15:37

The Newcastle branch was heaving, and well stocked today. Poor till staff were whirring! Did a full shop - everything in stock from basic veg to party food etc. Haven’t been for a couple of years though, so couldn’t say if the selection is worse than last year. Bought the footlong pigs in blankets for the kids - they were suitably impressed 😂

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 23/12/2019 15:40

It wasnt for Christmas day....and one was a present

So the ones we have now are the 6th of January...so we're all good

And its really not an issue if you need other shopping or birthday stuff in my case Smile

sweetkitty · 23/12/2019 15:48

I went this morning and wasn’t impressed, in years gone by they had loads of different ready to cook turkey joints. This year there was only one for 2-4 people it was tiny wouldn’t feed 2 people (I only need it for 3) and was £21. The next one up was £65. I went to Asda and got a one for £16 3 times the size.

MyNameIsMrsGrumpy · 23/12/2019 15:49

Tried two different stores and both had shockingly short dates on them.

Fruit salad with today’s date 🤷‍♀️

The quality in M&S has gone rapidly down hill the past couple of years so much so I’m making own my own roast potatoes Xmas Grin

I’ve tried 5 shops to buy a fecking cauliflower (M&S x 2, tesco, Asda, Aldi, Lidl) which wasn’t brown...luckily Waitrose has some in the end.

Horsemad · 23/12/2019 16:54

We were in M&S on 20/12 and a massive amount of Yule logs had 18/12 on them!

Not ideal...

Daffodil101 · 23/12/2019 17:55

True about short dates. I bought a friend one of those Welsh rarebit oven things and dropped it round to her to cheer her up. I’d bought one for myself, too.

When I got home and unloaded my shopping, I noticed it had that days date on it. It was 11pm by this point. I texted her and apologised for gifting her food with today’s date 🙄

I went to a small one yesterday and it had lots of Xmas cakes, novelty, iced, yule logs, gorgeous looking deserts, main turkey and hams and ducks. It all looked great.

However... What drives me insane is that you cannot browse Xmas food at all on their website now.. Because Xmas ordering date has gone.

Why oh why can't I browse... Their other Xmas food!! It's maddening!!

Daffodil101 · 23/12/2019 18:19

I’ve been into a small m and s food and a large store (biggest type). Neither had much

OP posts:
mendandmakedo · 23/12/2019 18:30

I pre ordered 2 items from M and S and paid a deposit. When i collected them I had to queue up for ages to pay the £3 balance very frustrating.
