What time would you do food shop tomorrow?

Need to do food shop tomorrow, couldn’t do it any early because of work and other things we’ve had on. Problem is, Asda opens at 5am. Do I go then? No scan and shop that early so will have to tot up total on way round (budget to keep an eye on), or do I go later like 10-11am with scan and shop? What tends to happen round here is it’s really busy early and quietens down later on. I just can’t decide! Help!

I’m heading to Sainsbury’s when it opens at 6am, then meeting my mum at M&S food hall at 8.30am!

Nononononono33 · 22/12/2019 14:53

Should say the car park at my local Sainsbury’s can get really clogged up, so want to avoid going at 11am and potentially getting stuck trying to leave..

ElusiveOrangeTwirl · 22/12/2019 14:55

I'd go early. My nearest supermarket had people queueing for spaces by half 10 today.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 22/12/2019 14:55

A few years ago I went to Tesco at 6am thinking I'd beat the crowds and found everyone else had had the same idea!

Arrowfanatic · 22/12/2019 14:56

We usually go on xmas eve at around 4am. Fresh veg is usually just going out & its nice & quiet.

Kobrakid · 22/12/2019 14:56

See I was leaning towards 10am but it’s only five minutes down round and I can be there for bang on 5. Plus not sleeping too well at minute so getting up won’t be too much of a struggle. Forgot about state of car park.

Definitely 5am - Godspeed!

ooooohbetty · 22/12/2019 15:00

I've got work tomorrow. Going after at about 6.

Kobrakid · 22/12/2019 15:06

Going to try 5 wish me luck 😂

Wow!
I couldn't be arsed to get up at that kind of time just to shop. I'm going after my Zumba class tomorrow so 11am, if it's packed to the hilt I'll just stand in the queue. Will walk so no car parking worries, did all the heavy stuff last week so just a few fresh bits to get like salad.

Wheelerdeeler · 22/12/2019 15:07

7am when it opens. Can relax then for rest of day

wineandsunshine · 22/12/2019 15:08

We are going for 7am at Tesco tomorrow!!!

RJnomore1 · 22/12/2019 15:09

I’m going at 8am

Smashtastick · 22/12/2019 15:13

I did my shopping on Monday and it's all prepped and in the freezer.

Why do people subject themselves to a horrendous shopping trip on the few days before Christmas?

The only things I need on Christmas Eve are fresh salad and coleslaw (all had tomorrow's date on when I quickly popped in for wash powder this morning)

Kobrakid · 22/12/2019 15:16

I’m usually awake at that time anyway so it’s not a massive deal for me to go early. I hate shopping in general and it’s the last job so just want it done.

Couldn’t go earlier due to work, family commitments and waiting for pay day!

I've done mine already at 11pm Friday night. There's nothing that won't last, even cream and the like. Shops are open again on Boxing Day.

Why does everyone leave it so late?

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 22/12/2019 15:22

We got to the supermarket at 9.55 today. By 10.25, the car park was rammed and cars were parked all the way down the road and on pavements.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 22/12/2019 15:28

I leave it late because I prefer fresh food that hasn’t been frozen. It’s just a roast though, not a military operation. I’ll be buying stuff for 3 days (Ham, Turkey and veg) with a big online shop booked in for the 27th.

MardyGrass · 22/12/2019 15:32

Dead quiet this morning at 9-30am.
I would go early quieter and easier to concentrate on your budget
And take a list.
This morning was a doddle.
Compared to gridlocked roads reported by the Mr who has just returned from the gym.
Tomorrow after work I need to go to
butchers to collect at 5-45 pm and food order from M and S at the out of town foodhall think 6pm slot,
I am going nowhere shopping related on the 24th ,

lilgreen · 22/12/2019 15:32

Got mine unexpectedly yesterday. Popped in to Aldi for something else and saw the use by dates were all past 25th so got everything!Grin

BerylReader · 22/12/2019 15:33

The 23rd is always an awful day to shop because EVERYONE is trying to do it then. Get there as early as you can as there’s a reason they’re opening at 5 😬.

lilgreen · 22/12/2019 15:34

Yes, cream always surprises me with it’s long date. Shops open Boxing Day people! Don’t panic!

Bubblysqueak · 22/12/2019 15:37

I went at about 10pm last year and it was really quiet.

BrieAndChilli · 22/12/2019 15:41

I’m going tomorrow to Sainsbury’s at 6am. They normally open at 7am so often it doesn’t start getting busy until then.
