What time would you do food shop tomorrow?

Need to do food shop tomorrow, couldn’t do it any early because of work and other things we’ve had on. Problem is, Asda opens at 5am. Do I go then? No scan and shop that early so will have to tot up total on way round (budget to keep an eye on), or do I go later like 10-11am with scan and shop? What tends to happen round here is it’s really busy early and quietens down later on. I just can’t decide! Help!

Online shop - it’s arriving at 11am tomorrow. DH and I will be at work so DT’s will be there to put everything away. I love that the delivery drivers take it right through to the kitchen.

Yes Waitrose here was worryingly normal at lunchtime today. I managed to get a shed load of bargains for the freezer too which is unusual these days.

Use the scan and shop app as surely it should still work. We just use our phone app to check out in Asda. I was there at 7am (in Scotland so shops open all day if they want, no Sunday trading laws) and as I was leaving just after 8 it was getting busy.

Tomorrow at 4.30 with my dad when he finishes work.
My mum has made me in charge of choosing the meat - no pressure!

Do you want alcohol and if so when can you buy it? DP went at 8am yesterday and he was told he couldn't have alcohol until 10am so he had to go back again!

A lot of people will be at work tomorrow and a lot of people will have shopped this weekend so I'd go about 9am.

No alcohol. We have a small coop local that will cover anything missed and can be there when that opens too so not too stressed about anything being out of stock or anything.

Got there for 5.10 just got home. Surprisingly ok but starting to fill up now and scan and shop was working so that made things quicker. Most annoying thing was all the boxes left out on the shop floor. I tripped over a couple because some were hard to spot with a full trolley with wonky wheels.

I tend to go early for this sort of thing - get it over with!

Yesterday I was at M&S at 12.05 just after they opened and it was already very busy but not heaving, thank goodness.

I'm getting ready to go now

Kobrakid · 23/12/2019 07:08

Good luck everything was stocked but all rearranged which was annoying.

The only time I did my big Christmas shop at 5am it was heaving and took ages! My mum went to the same shop at 10am and breezes through 😂😂😂. Was a few years ago now - these days i don’t stress so much about Christmas food and just buy normal stuff that I know adult kids home from uni/work will eat - thank goodness there is a special offer on Pringles in the supermarkets 😂😂😂

I went at 6am, handful of people waiting there too, took an hour to go round, got pretty much everything on my list and my the time we left at 7am the car park was full.

Last year I went to Waitrose at 8am on Christmas Eve and it was a breeze. I've done most of it in advance, turkey and veg being delivered tomorrow (Riverford) but need a few bits today, going to go and do scan and shop and hope for the best.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 23/12/2019 08:42

I'm going to leave the house at about 8.30-9. My Sainsbury's is on a main commuter route on the way back, so any earlier and I'd get stuck in traffic coming home. I've not had to do a Christmas Eve shop for a few years but have in the past been between 9-11 and it's always busy but not armageddon. The only must-have on my list is custard, so if stuff's sold out it's no biggie.

I was in Asda at 8am. Rammed!
