I’m after ideas for some hearty Christmas Eve food and would love to hear any foodie traditions you may have to inspire me [

Thanks!

Every year I cook this served with mustard mash, braised red cabbage and stemmed broccoli 😋

Thanks @youreterriblemuriel99 it looks lush and I like the idea of having the cold cuts of ham for later on too

The Ham and poncy macaroni cheese.
Then port and more cheese.

Ilikecurrybest · 21/12/2019 19:40

Sound tasty do you have a recipe for the posh macaroni cheese?

Ham, mash and parsley sauce.

ScribblyGum · 21/12/2019 19:41

I think it’s a Nigella

Disillusioneddaisy · 21/12/2019 19:42

Our Christmas Eve food traditions don't involve cooking 🙈 it's usually either a takeaway or a party style buffet

inwood · 21/12/2019 19:42

I've said before in these threads, for some reason we end up with French dip sandwiches and fries, no idea how it came about but tradition now!

underneaththeash · 21/12/2019 19:42

We always do lasagne, garlic bread, mozzarella, tomato and avocado, green salad with walnuts and lots of champagne.

We tend to go to the pantomime on Christmas Eve so need something easy to re-heat.

ScribblyGum · 21/12/2019 19:42

Yes it’s a nigella

Ham, Cumberland sauce, jacket potatoes and cabbage. Mincemeat Tartlets and clotted cream for pud.

Been the same for years now Smile

Pub lunch after a big walk to visit lost family in our special place. Once home, we bake cookies for Santa so the kids eat a few with milk before bed too! We always bake a Camembert once the kids are asleep and demolish with nice bread and a glass of champagne.

RedLemon · 21/12/2019 19:48

Sandwiches made with Christmas baked ham, white sliced pan, loads of butter and mustard (English or whole grain depending on preference) washed down with prosecco in fancy champagne flutes because we’re classy. Soooooo good 🍖🥂

Dollywilde · 21/12/2019 19:49

Every year at my parents we do an M&S seafood platter - prawns, crab, calamari etc - with crusty bread and yummy salad. Mum says it’s the most expensive meal of the year but worth it as it’s all our favourite Grin

Ohffs66 · 21/12/2019 19:53

The last few years we have had this with a bottle of Prosecco...nice and light before Christmas Day...

Dp does a crap lasagne with 10000 ingredients, most of which detract from the expected awesomeness of a lasagna, yet fail to cover his inability to add sufficient bechamel or moisture to cook said meal (or disguise the many burned bits).

I really wish he'd fuck off out of the kitchen for a couple of days of the year.

TuppenceDarling · 21/12/2019 19:54

Fish pie and champagne

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 21/12/2019 19:55

We have an Indian takeaway. You did ask Grin

selmabear · 21/12/2019 19:57

Not cooking on xmas eve, DP is working till 8pm and might go for a pint after work so he probably wont be home until 10 so I'm thinking probably either party food and snacks or take out

Ilikecurrybest · 21/12/2019 20:00

Thanks loving these suggestions and recipes please keep them coming Xmas Smile

Not supper, but we always do sausages in baguettes for lunch on the 24th

ballsdeep · 21/12/2019 20:02

Hot beef rolls with gravy and a hot buffet. Then we have a nice dessert buffet too. Love Christmas eve

jess3817 · 21/12/2019 20:08

I don't really do anything special on Christmas eve 🤔 we do have lots of nibbles out during late afternoon etc though..

jess3817 · 21/12/2019 20:10

Will be opening the ( non dairy) baileys though 😁
