I’m after ideas for some hearty Christmas Eve food and would love to hear any foodie traditions you may have to inspire me [

Thanks!

We have a gammon with new potatoes and lots of salad and coleslaw etc

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 21/12/2019 20:24

We're having chicken soup and bread for lunch and then a picnic by the christmas tree for tea. Got a variety of cheese, lovely bread on order from the bakery, quiches, smoked salmon, will make a brocoli and cranberry salad and a ouzo one, sliced tomatoes and avocados, salami and ham plus some party food bits. It's my favourite meal of the year.

I cook the Xmas gammon on Christmas Eve and we have it warm with fried eggs and chips every year - tis excellent Xmas Grin

We cook turkey on xmas eve so have that for lunch on sandwiches whilst it's still warm. Xmas eve is eating out after the final tidy.

KenAdams · 21/12/2019 20:38

Take away that's different to anything else we eat over Christmas - Chinese/Indian etc with enough leftover to eat on Boxing Day when we're sick of having eaten Christmas dinner loads of times. Then a stupidly expensive bottle of champagne for the evening (a different one every year) - we don't drink champagne at any other time of the year.

We always have lasagne after evening mass, with garlic bread and prosecco of course!

Deckthehallswith · 21/12/2019 20:45

We usually have a roast pork dinner at my parents house. This year were all eating out instead Sad

WisestIsShe · 21/12/2019 20:50

We are having butter chicken, rice and the jo flatbread. This is a very tasty recipe here

MsRinky · 21/12/2019 20:56

We always have fish. This year I am making crab tortellini with a lemon and brown shrimp sauce.

Apolloanddaphne · 21/12/2019 21:05

I usually make lasagne on Christmas Eve. I can make them in advance then they just need heated once everyone arrives. Add salad and garlic bread. Job done.

Justajot · 21/12/2019 21:08

Ham - often the nigella ham in coke recipe, cauliflower cheese and some type of potato. We might have panettone bread and butter pudding too.

Smileatthesmallthings · 21/12/2019 21:09

My mum's take on goulash (basically a beef and carrot stew in a paprika and tomato sauce) with mash. Easy to make in the slow cooker and reminds me of being a kid.

Stravapalava · 21/12/2019 21:11

It's usually fish & chips in our house!

RAINSh0wers · 21/12/2019 21:11

We have a Chinese takeaway! My parents used to do it, and now we usually host Christmas it’s just easier than having to worry about cooking on Christmas Eve, and makes a change from the food that follows over the next couple of days.

Armi · 21/12/2019 21:14

I cook a ham and we have it with jacket potatoes, good bread, salad, grated cheese, pickles etc, followed by too many puddings.

RhubarbAndMustard · 21/12/2019 21:14

Xmas gammon, cooked with cloves, mustard and brown sugar. Will probably have with jackets and red cabbage.

TroysMammy · 21/12/2019 21:15

Before I met my partner it would be venison or lobster. As my partner's birthday is Christmas Eve it's now things on sticks, sausage rolls, jelly and blancmange or Angel Delight and a cake. Perhaps when our niece leaves primary school in just under 2 years time we can start having "grown up food".

Chancey1982 · 21/12/2019 21:16

We have pizza takeaway Xmas eve every yr 😂 your cooking sounds amazing.

PajamasnoDramas · 21/12/2019 21:21

Trip to the chippy, take it easy before the onslaught of the next day Xmas Smile

lifeisgoodagain · 21/12/2019 21:29

I'm making cassoulet, I make it vegan and gluten free then add different accompaniments to suit the fussy ones, sorry dietary requirements.

lifeisgoodagain · 21/12/2019 21:29

But driving at 9 so no wine for me, my kids are choristers!

familylife16 · 21/12/2019 21:30

Nice cheese board when the kids have gone to bed! 😊

poshme · 21/12/2019 21:45

Salmon en croute.
Baby potatoes
Buttered leeks

Leolion09 · 21/12/2019 21:55

Usually a Chinese takeaway so I can clean the kitchen a bit and it stays that way until the inevitable Christmas bomb hits it the next day haha!

Clutterbugsmum · 21/12/2019 21:57

A picky tea/buffet.

We don't like anything heavy before christmas dinner.
