I’m after ideas for some hearty Christmas Eve food and would love to hear any foodie traditions you may have to inspire me [

Thanks!

We always have a Chinese takeaway on Christmas eve!

I wanted to do curries, but have been out-voted in favour of the usual picky tea.

This usually consists of -
lots of cheese
'nice' crackers
bread rolls
hard boiled eggs
Quorn turkey
Some sort of meat for the carnivores
Various pickles
Salad
Grapes
Celery
Crisps

Followed by mince pies, merengues with cream, chocolate brownies

We've ended up doing a beef stroganoff the last few years. I did it twice in a row as it's quite easy and now the kids think that's Christmas Eve dinner so that's most likely what we'll have! Makes it easier knowing as for many years we grabbed a takeaway from wherever was open.

Pie, filled with some steak & ale stew that I made a few weeks ago, served with some mash and veg.

I do a buffet tea I think this year I'll do gammon in slow cooker so will make sandwiches with that and some nibbles like cheese n crackers .
I cover up leftovers then I give the dc their Christmas Eve gift which is pyjamas and chocolate which they change into after showers .
Dh goes to the local pub for a couple of hours and I put the presents out and eat any leftovers with a couple of wines after dc have gone to bed .
