When do you get the Christmas chocolates/ sweets out? And which ones do you have?

I was going to do it yesterday but there was a lot of birthday cake about and none of us needed anymore chocolate. Next weekend we are away so maybe the 23rd would be a good time? That way they'll last. I've got Quality Street (a childhood favourite-they smell of Christmas-even if they aren't as nice now), some M&S ones in a tub and some heroes in a tub. There's after 8s, M&S peppermint creams and sticks and cherry liqueurs, chocolate biscuits and matchmakers. Oh and some Montezumas buttons and possible some chocolonely. I've been stashing for some time Grin

I've not tried any of the M&S ones before so I'm hoping they are nice. I find the thought of chocolates better than the actual chocolate these days as it's all gone downhill so much. Maybe I'll just sniff the quality street instead of eating them and admire the shiny wrappers.

23rd seems sensible, although I currently have 2 tubs languishing in the kitchen and tempting me every time I walk past. Also have after 8's, mint matchmakers and no doubt will add to the collection over the coming days!

Quirrelsotherface · 16/12/2019 20:15

2 tubs of Celebrations I should have said Xmas Smile

AhoyMrBeaver · 16/12/2019 20:16

We've started already after receiving an enormous hamper full of chocolate and sweets this weekend. We'd usually hold off until next weekend when the kids have broken up and everything feels a bit more festive.

I had a chocolate craving yesterday and broke into a tub of heroes. they have all gone now ( 4 teenagers). The tubs have got so much smaller these days. We have left a tub of celebrations, another tub of heroes, after eights and I will probably buy a couple of chocolate oranges last minute.

gamerwidow · 16/12/2019 20:20

Big tin of quality street to be opened on 23rd. The first one sadly didn’t make it until Xmas ......

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 16/12/2019 20:31

Nothing gets opened until Christ eve here, until then there’s standard treats in but it seems more Christmassy to save the items we don’t usually buy until then.

bananamonkey · 16/12/2019 20:36

I opened the quality street yesterday as we were wrapping presents. Might have a few more bits and bobs from Sunday onwards. Have a chocolate orange, some lebkuchen and some weird biscuits DH wanted. We’re not hosting at all so didn’t get any matchmakers, after eights etc. this year.

Theflying19 · 16/12/2019 20:42

Christmas day!

WellTidy · 16/12/2019 20:45

Enormous tin of quality street and a big box of Bendicks mints. That’s all I have bought this year. I know that DH and the DSs will have chocs in their stockings (as I bought and wrapped them) and we can always get more in after Christmas if we haven’t eaten enough by then. I will bring them out over the weekend I think.

StarlingsInSummer · 16/12/2019 20:46

Christmas Eve in the evening!

popcorndiva · 16/12/2019 20:54

We have a tub of celebrations, metal tin of quality street and fererro rocher.

Planning to open on Friday night, start of school hols

Spacerader · 16/12/2019 21:03

Christmas food and treats can officially be opened and used christmas eve evening. I'm cutting back in treats this year. We always end up with far to much. I buy some. Then end up with a million boxes as gifts from children at school, plus the treats that end up in stockings and as gifts from family and friends. We have way to much.

I'm actually waiting to buy the christmas chocs till after I break up Friday to see what I get.

LER83 · 16/12/2019 21:11

We've already eaten a tub of celebrations, box of fancy biscuits and some other chocolatey biscuit thing. We've also drunk 3 bottles of mulled wine! Oops! Can always pop to the shop to get more!

GiloulovesLaure · 16/12/2019 21:16

When can I come round, OP?

ParkheadParadise · 16/12/2019 21:24

I have more lindt chocolate bunnies and Santa's than I know what to do with, everytime i walk by them i eat one.
After eights
Celebrations (2)
Haribo tubs (2)
DH gets several hampers at work for Christmas, I'm not really into them.
There was 3 bottles of champagne in the fridge. My niece and I had one yesterday between us when we were waiting on Hermes to deliver parcels.

twinnywinny14 · 16/12/2019 21:27

We have a box of Bendicts mixed and a box of the mint cremes too and we will open on Xmas eve if not Xmas day x

snowybaubles · 16/12/2019 21:33

I never knew until i came on Mumsnet that people actually buy these for themselves. I always thought the tubs and tins were in shops for us to buy for other people Blush

Maybe when I was a kid we never bought them and only received :/

I now buy everything and 15th December is fair game Grin

housewifeoflittleitaly · 16/12/2019 21:37

I never go out and buy sweets so this year I’ve bought my favourites & a tin for the kids. That’s it thought as I am a Scrooge. Will open on Christmas Eve

santaclawz · 16/12/2019 21:45

Today actually. Big tin of quality street, celebrations and roses now say under Xmas tree :)

Bloodybridget · 16/12/2019 21:45

We've just got one box of Godiva chocolates that someone gave me. Although if we open the presents from our cleaner (yes, I know! she is a darling) we will find we have more.

Bloodybridget · 16/12/2019 21:47

Haven't thought about when to break into the Godiva box. We are going away on Christmas Eve so might take them with us.

BackforGood · 16/12/2019 22:02

Christmas Day !

Another "thing" I never knew was a 'thing' Grin
How did we know about other people's strange habits before MN ??

Doodlebug5 · 16/12/2019 22:02

1st January Grin

milliefiori · 16/12/2019 22:03

Well DS has already opened his Secret Santa Lindor truffles and I have already nicked three of them. But I'm not buying any special chocs for Christmas - we'll just be eating whatever turns up in the house.

FiveNightsAtMummys · 16/12/2019 22:05

Sunday here, Altho I'm ready to break and have them at any moment now (been on sw past year and only just quit so ready for a good blow out)
