Is there anywhere left in the UK that's nice and safe to live?

Thinking of moving back. Any recommendations?

Tunbridge Wells is populated by the permanently disgusted.

Crunchymum · 14/12/2019 22:43

Did you not see the election results?

Why would you choose to come back now?

LidlDonkey · 14/12/2019 22:46

Norfolk is generally very safe. I think Broadland is one of the safest areas in the UK. Property is affordable and it's much warmer and drier than the west or Scotland.

Littlepond · 14/12/2019 22:49

It’s lovely and safe where I live as far as I’m concerned. I’m in SE London. I’m happy for my kids to play out and I don’t worry about walking home from the pub by myself. I know my neighbours and I love where I live 🤷🏼‍♀️

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/12/2019 22:51

It does get a bit stabby where I live, but in general it’s dealers stabbing each other.

More crime where my parents live out in a tiny village.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 14/12/2019 23:48

what's your definition of UNSAFE? if you mean drugs, gangs, knife-crime, guns and violent behaviour - then you will want to avoid large cities.

not much of that sort of violence near where I live (rural village), unless you count the County Lines....

wellthatwasthat · 15/12/2019 11:02

Come to sunny Bedfordshire, there's me and spider and sock and all the sprouts and onions you could possibly eat. What could possibly go wrong? Grin

We even have wild wallabies.

SpiderCharlotte · 15/12/2019 11:09

It's beautiful here this morning isn't it @wellthatwasthat. Of course, we could be in the middle of a thunderstorm by midday, but I'll take it while I can ...

Grasspigeons · 15/12/2019 11:14

if you live abroad the bad bits of news filter through dont they, so you get a bad impression of a place and some brits abroad dont sell us well. My south africans friends family were terrified when she moved to the uk. She came from the murder capital of the world but they'd seen reports of terrorism in London.

wellthatwasthat · 15/12/2019 11:16

@SpiderCharlotte Yes, lovely sunshine, and no east wind from Siberia today either Smile

Lyricallie · 15/12/2019 11:23

Up here in the Highlands is safe :) watch out for sheep on the road.

Oliversmumsarmy · 15/12/2019 11:30

Tiny hamlet in the outskirts of North London.

Zero crime.

But very few houses come for sale

BackforGood · 15/12/2019 11:48

Only place I'd avoid is Midsommer, tbh due to the regular weekly murder - but, as a poster above says, she knows people who live there who haven't been murdered.

are you coming back to offer any more thoughts @christmasandcounting ?

Miniloso · 15/12/2019 11:51

North Oxford

Arnoldthecat · 15/12/2019 11:57

Dont worry too much about it.Simply protect your borders. Make sure your home is secure, replace your cheap eurocylinder locks with antisnap/high security ones, get an alarm, buy a big safe, bolt it down, have home and contents insurance and get on with your life.

Trewser · 15/12/2019 12:00

Not Devon, whatever you do. Margaret's son's girlfriend's sister got caught doing 45 in a 30 last week.

TheClausSeason · 15/12/2019 12:05

Nah, mate. You've seen The Purge? Wasn't scripted- they just filmed a Tuesday evening in Manchester.

ivykaty44 · 15/12/2019 14:31

Trewser the West Country has a big drugs problem - avoid unless a drugs and substance abuse counsellor

Arnoldthecat · 15/12/2019 15:23

I live in Stalybridge, like a village outside of Manchester and it's the safest place iv lived Ah yes,,The Raffifi was always a hot favourite for a good shoeing at chucking out time... Grin

Arnoldthecat · 15/12/2019 15:24

Not Devon, whatever you do. Margaret's son's girlfriend's sister got caught doing 45 in a 30 last week. Have you visited Barnstaple..?

SallyWD · 15/12/2019 15:25

I live in Yorkshire. It's lovely. Amazing scenery, beautiful towns, friendly people.

Greenglassteacup · 15/12/2019 15:27

If you come back to this thread, define ‘safe’

AdoptedBumpkin · 15/12/2019 20:07

The Peak District is nice if you can afford it, although I'm new so still adjusting to life here.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 15/12/2019 20:09

No OP, it's terrible. Shootouts on street corners in every town most weeks... regular hostage taking by gangs... last time I left the house I lost a leg. [Sad face]

Wtf? Hmm
