What would you take if you were to spend the night in a haunted house?

Because I'm going to stay in one tomorrow night that is apparently haunted by a poltergeist (I'm sceptical, my mum asked me to go...)
I have to take a sleeping bag if I want to sleep (there are beds but no bedding)
A torch and spare batteries (because batteries drain quickly inside the house apparently)
Food for breakfast, snacks, teabags, milk etc
Phone charger
Pyjamas/clothes and toothbrush obviously.

What else?

Bucketloads of diazepam so I would sleep through the whole thing.

FurrySlipperBoots · 20/11/2019 00:04

The Pope? Would that be an option?

Not many people can boast they've spent the night with him! Grin

I cannot believe that I am the first person to say WINE! And lots of it

pigeononthegate · 20/11/2019 00:27

Humbugs.

Pinkbonbon · 20/11/2019 00:37

Definitely the torch. Saw a 'ghost' once. Don't think it had ever been human though. You could feel this rage coming off it. Horrible experience. But still looks it as a good thing in a way cause I think if there can be things that nasty in the world, there must be things equally good too :)

...and maybe other stuff inbetween ;)

But yeh, that thing only appeared the second the lights went out. So I've always wondered - if it couldn't appear in the light. And whether or not that was because of what it symbolised, or just some electromagnetic disruption.. or what?

So...bring lots of light. Hell, bring a lamp xD

I would also take a double duvet & a pillow, or you'll be freezing. Why are you doing this btw? I have slept in a haunted house many times. DH's mums house is very haunted. One room in particular. I had to sleep in that room one Christmas because DH's room was filled with presents. I was still hungover from the night before & everyone else had gone to the graveyard. I pulled those covers right over my head, put on my eye mask (another vital piece of kit for you) & tried to sleep. I could feel a definite presence & hear what sounded like running from one side of the room to the side of the bed, right in front of me, where it stopped with a loud thump, like it had taken a run & jump. I said "please don't" & luckily it stopped then. I do think it was a playful childish presence & meant no harm. The stories that could be told about that house.

mostlydrinkstea · 20/11/2019 00:43

Water, prayers and holy oil. Won't stay haunted for long.....

Walkingdeadfangirl · 20/11/2019 01:00

Surely you will need a good book, it will get very boring, I dont imagine it has wifi.
Maybe 50 shades?

Inebriati · 20/11/2019 01:12

A sheet with eye holes and a chain to rattle at 'em.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 20/11/2019 01:18

Yes wine! And a laptop with some films downloaded if you're still awake late and don't want to be lying there listening to every sodding creak you hear with your imagination going nuts. Or an audiobook and headphones.

DonKeyshot · 20/11/2019 01:26

Ghosts are very rarely the malevolent beings they're so frequently depicted as.

I share my house with various souls that have lived here before and clearly love it as much as I do.

We rub along together very well and there's a noticeably happy vibe and peaceful atmosphere in the house which suggests to me that only good things happened to them here.

I suspect that many share their homes with 'ghosts' without realising that others are inhabiting the same space as they are.

NewtonPulsifer · 20/11/2019 01:59

Velma. And if she isn’t available some red shirt Star Trek extras. They are always the ones who get killed off first, giving me chance to leg it.

OnTheFenceWithMostViews · 20/11/2019 02:00

Sleeping pills.!

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 20/11/2019 02:12

Read "Humblepuppy" before you go. You'll be fine!

rededucator · 20/11/2019 02:31

Are you going because it's haunted as an experience or are you going there anyway and have been advised it's haunted?

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 20/11/2019 08:08

Wow I wasn't expecting so many replies!

Okay, to answer some questions...
My mum and her friend have recently got into the supernatural and ghost hunting etc, so they find haunted houses online that you pay a fee to stay there the night.

They've been to two so far and they were events that other people had booked on and had a guide stay there too. Tonight, as far as I know, we turn up, collect the house keys from the neighbour and we have the place to ourselves. No randomers or guide. My mum and her friend have paid a fee and can take up to 6 people with them I think? She asked me to go as she wasn't sure if her friend would be able to make it or not so I agreed.

The place has ghost hunting equipment that you're allowed to borrow, but you're not allowed to take a Ouija board, that's strict rule number 1. Also, no alcohol allowed otherwise wine would've been at the top of my list. The rules also say no idiots yet we're still going

I will certainly come back and update you all tomorrow if I make it through the night

Oh and we're also taking a psychic lady with us who can see spirits. She asked my grandma who that man was that was standing behind her and described my grandmas deceased husband perfectly. He's been dead 30yrs!

Hot water bottle! Aren't haunted houses cold?

Buddyelf · 20/11/2019 08:51

Shameless place marking for the update!

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 20/11/2019 09:01

It's supposed to have working heating. BUT I'll be taking my sleeping bag which is lovely and warm so I should be ok.
