Anyone have a particular food that ALWAYS give you heartburn/indigestion?

I haven't eaten bread for over 3 weeks but had 1 slice of wholemeal toast this morning (from a 400g loaf so a small slice). Two hours later - indigestion aplenty. How can 1 small slice of bread do that?!

Anyone else?

Anything pickled, but luckily I hate pickled food. Other than that, cava, prosecco and dry white wine of the cheap variety.

Yes, sliced bread cooked via the Chorleywood process (more steaming than baking) results in the horrible damp pulp we've been brainwashed to believe is bread. Barely digestible, vile. Instant heartburn. Try a proper, baked, sourdough that you slice yourself. Or Vogel's isn't too bad a brand.

Anything with cinnamon in or candied peel. Hot cross buns/mince pies and suchlike.

Crumble or cheesecake. Doesn't matter whether it's home made or shop bought. I have no such issues with pie. I still haven't figured out why this is different.

SwedishEdith · 15/11/2019 13:03

Bananas when they're still hard. And water, bizarrely.

vampirethriller · 15/11/2019 13:09

Sausage rolls. I love them though so sometimes it's worth it.

SuperficialSuzie · 15/11/2019 13:10

Fish and chips from the chipper

Honeybee85 · 15/11/2019 13:14

Too much ketchup (though I love it).
Huge fan of very spicy food but when I was pregnant it gave me immediate horrible heartburn and would start to vomit about 2 hours after eating it.

White wine too gives me heartburn and a headache.

Airfixkitwidow · 15/11/2019 13:17

Panini. I'm fine with most breads but Panini give me excruciating indigestion. Also red wine.

WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl · 15/11/2019 13:18

Anything with paprika in.

3rdNamechange · 15/11/2019 13:21

QforCucumber · 15/11/2019 13:22

Pastry :(

Hugsgalore · 15/11/2019 13:22

Anything with oats... Like granola or granola bars, digestive biscuits
Anything too acidic

PenguinsOnParade · 15/11/2019 13:22

Bell peppers. Chilli peppers are fine thankfully.

SpiderCharlotte · 15/11/2019 13:24

Yes hot pastry does it for me too, especially sausage rolls. Though as @vampirethriller says, sometimes it's worth taking the hit ... Grin

Chocolate

SingingSands · 15/11/2019 13:25

Milk

Even in a cuppa. Sometimes I cut it out, sometimes I just really want a cup of tea.

NotQuiteUsual · 15/11/2019 13:27

Chocolate and pastry. Needless to say, u experience it a lot.

heidbuttsupper · 15/11/2019 13:30

@SwedishEdith me too! So weird

StormOfSekhmet · 15/11/2019 13:34

Big chips, not the French fry type.

ComtesseDeSpair · 15/11/2019 13:34

Any high fibre/bran cereal like Fruit and Fibre, Branflakes, Allbran etc. Within an hour my entire abdomen will be puffed up as though I’m several months pregnant and I’ll have terrible trapped wind and heartburn.

Hecateh · 15/11/2019 13:37

untoasted, fresh bread - white is worst.

If it's older or toasted it's fine. Untoasted and fresh it clearly just goes to a soggy mush inside me.

Fresh scones too

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 15/11/2019 13:37

Pastry, Chili con Carne (assume the beans), and yes, water..... odd that!

rslsys · 15/11/2019 13:41

Just about anything baked using white flour.

bobstersmum · 15/11/2019 13:44

Spring onions
