Anyone have a particular food that ALWAYS give you heartburn/indigestion?

I haven't eaten bread for over 3 weeks but had 1 slice of wholemeal toast this morning (from a 400g loaf so a small slice). Two hours later - indigestion aplenty. How can 1 small slice of bread do that?!

Anyone else?

Pastry
Chips shop chips
Any fizzy wine
Cheap white wine

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/11/2019 14:36

Peppers

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 15/11/2019 14:42

Yeah, fish and chips, oily curries, cucumber, raw onion, raw apple

Yeast can aggravate heartburn/indigestion

A gastroenterologist made me give up bread in pregnancy

Minced beef for me. Any bolognaise, burgers or chilli!

MayMiracle · 15/11/2019 14:46

Chorizo, but luckily I don't like it, so not a big deal.

DH can't abide spring onions as they repeat on him

WombleishOfTheThighs · 15/11/2019 14:47

Bananas, white wine, peppermint in any form (which is odd, given it's meant to help get rid of it), most foods containing sugar, but not chocolate. Crisps also give me heartburn, particularly ready salted and salt and vinegar. Doesn't stop me eating them, though Grin My heartburn is pretty much constant when I lie down since I had my gallbladder removed.

Picklypickles · 15/11/2019 14:49

Pastry and anything with tomato or barbecue sauce, or too much sugary stuff like cake!

TheOldestCat · 15/11/2019 14:55

Cucumbers and raw tomatoes for me too. I have a hiatal hernia (part of stomach in the chest cavity) so that doesn't help.

Used to have much worse heartburn back in my drinking days (even if I had just had one drink the night before). It's been so much better since giving up alcohol.

MulticolourMophead · 15/11/2019 15:58

Pastry, alcohol 🙁 and chocolate 🙁🙁 although I get away with it sometimes by being sat or stood upright for a couple of hours after eating.

MulticolourMophead · 15/11/2019 16:02

And I forgot caffeine drinks, including coke.

Decaffeinated tea and coffee now, and hardly any fizzy drinks these days.

Ginfordinner · 15/11/2019 16:25

Eggs

Drinkciderfromalemon · 15/11/2019 16:58

A huge amount of stuff including bread, pastry, potatoes, rice, oats, tomatoes, certain fruits, aubergine, pasta, anything too spicy.... I'm getting v fed up with it!

Morosou · 15/11/2019 17:28

Everything and anything at certain times of the month. I can get indigestion every day for a week or more no matter what I have eaten. It doesn't have to be fatty.

Then I can go a few weeks with nothing then it starts again.

TattiePants · 15/11/2019 18:12

Fresh pineapple although tinned is fine. Processed meat more than once a day. I’m guaranteed to suffer on a camping weekend when it’s bacon or sausage sandwiches for breakfast and burgers on the BBQ.

73kittycat73 · 15/11/2019 18:54

Mint chocolate and anything pineapple.

73kittycat73 · 15/11/2019 18:54

Oh yeah, and I love them both!

MrsZippyLake · 15/11/2019 22:14

Loads of things but chips from the chippy are the worst!

justasking111 · 15/11/2019 22:22

I have found my tribe. Gallbladder came out six years ago, they said you can now eat anything. Bollox, I had to be so careful. Despite that I am now having gallbladder pains and they think the bile duct is blocked, it happens sometimes. The only good news is the weight is falling off.

Bezalelle · 15/11/2019 22:23

Raw onion. Ghastly stuff. Makes me bloat up like Tweedledum and then later guff like the charge of the Light Brigade. Best avoided.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/11/2019 17:05

Peanut butter is worse for heartburn here
Chips ( I can eat maybe 4-5 )

Anything fatty aggrevates my non-existent gall bladder

And white bread bloats me

So peanut butter and chip butties are off the table Grin

Akire · 16/11/2019 17:07

If I so much as smell red wine I get heartburn.

itsgettingweird · 16/11/2019 17:13

Yes bread or pasta or pastry with wheat in

Also anything dairy with high fat content such as cream. I'm ok with limited butter, can manage milk in coffee and cheese and also milk cooked so cheese sauce.
In costa I have to have soya milk

Hovverry · 16/11/2019 18:21

Any baked goods containing raising agents like baking powder. Can’t eat scones.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/11/2019 18:25

Supermarket scones always give me a sore mouthConfused

SnugPearlJoker · 17/10/2024 05:15
