Anyone have a particular food that ALWAYS give you heartburn/indigestion?

I haven't eaten bread for over 3 weeks but had 1 slice of wholemeal toast this morning (from a 400g loaf so a small slice). Two hours later - indigestion aplenty. How can 1 small slice of bread do that?!

Anyone else?

Cucumber repeats on me for hours and hours on end. Vile stuff.

User1924 · 15/11/2019 13:46

Smoked mackerel, I love it though

NecklessMumster · 15/11/2019 13:52

Spring onions.

I love them so I endure the discomfort Blush

Plump82 · 15/11/2019 13:55

Anything with oats. Bananas if theyre under ripe and coffee. I suffer with it to have a coffee though!

SpiderCharlotte · 15/11/2019 13:55

@NecklessMumster I've had my gallbladder out too and have had the most awful stomach pains in the past if I've eaten something very creamy/rich. Is there a connection with that and the gallbladder?

Tomatoes and jalapeños (although the latter is an obvious trigger!)

misscockerspaniel · 15/11/2019 13:57

Rapeseed oil is the work of the devil

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/11/2019 13:58

Tomatoes, especially in homemade pasta sauce, which is annoying because I love it. Just make it for everyone else now Sad

NecklessMumster · 15/11/2019 13:59

Spidercharlotte some people find it harder to manage fats without a gallbladder as it's function is to release bile to digest when a lot of fat is eaten, without one there is a steady supply but not as needed iyswim.

TheCanterburyWhales · 15/11/2019 14:00

Pesto.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 15/11/2019 14:01

Bread here too, although I had some ciabatta made from spelt flour which was not too bad. Gluten free sourdough is better, but so expensive.

SavageBeauty73 · 15/11/2019 14:03

Chocolate has become a trigger. Cheap white wine 🤮

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/11/2019 14:03

Coleslaw and bacon flavoured crisps

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/11/2019 14:04

And tinned mackerel

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/11/2019 14:05

@Queenofpain if you peel it first it should be fine

SpiderCharlotte · 15/11/2019 14:05

@NecklessMumster Thank you, I think I need to do some research on this! If I eat something with a high fat content, it frequently makes me feel grim and goes straight through me within half an hour (sorry if TMI), I wonder if that is related. It would answer a lot of questions!

Water sometimes, pastry every time I eat it & yes some bread

ThisIsReworked · 15/11/2019 14:08

Quorn. Which is a pity because it is handy to have in the freezer.

thepointoforder · 15/11/2019 14:16

Juniper berries and red wine

pelirocco123 · 15/11/2019 14:20

Chips and bread

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 15/11/2019 14:20

Grape Nuts, citrus fruit and juice, toast but not bread, garlic mayo.

Once your gallbladder is out, you need to keep fat intake little and often. It's basically there to emulsify large quantities of fat, and if it can't do that, undigested fat will go straight through you. I overdosed on clotted cream once, and the resulting diarrhoea was green. That was bile coming out, because my gallbladder had made an heroic effort, but sadly not enough.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 15/11/2019 14:22

Oranges
Fresh tomatoes( I'm fine with cooked)
Recent issue I'm 54

wendywoopywoo222 · 15/11/2019 14:30

Pastry, bread, biscuits and mashed potato.

Thank god for gaviscon.

Layoverlife · 15/11/2019 14:32

Cucumbers repeat on me for hours and hours even after I've peeled them, and the same thing happens with raw tomatos 🤢
