Should I be worried about this? (AirBNB)

Staying at a place for the second time.
I ta advertised as a family home (dad and grown up children) who I met last time

Last nite I arrived late and thought it strange that there was very loud snoring in the room next door.
Thought maybe it was the dad

Anyway fast forward to tonight and I'm in the kitchen and a completely unknown Male has let himself in and gone upstairs

I don't know what to do, there are no bedroom door locks and was not advertised as 2 rooms to rent

WWYD?

Can you link to the advert?

MozzchopsThirty · 07/11/2019 17:50

Why would that help?

OP posts:
TheSecretJeven · 07/11/2019 17:50

Did it state that you have exclusive use if the property? If so, then contact Airbnb to complain.

NeedAnExpert · 07/11/2019 17:51

Because we can see how it’s been described. Hmm. If it says you have the “entire place” then you have a point. If it doesn’t, then you don’t.

NeedAnExpert · 07/11/2019 17:52

“Family home“ in your op implies a room in a family home. Otherwise it would be “suitable for a family”

MozzchopsThirty · 07/11/2019 17:52

Why would that help?
Surely if you're renting out multiple rooms you'd put locks on the door for safety

OP posts:
NeedAnExpert · 07/11/2019 17:53

Hard to say. Does the bedroom look like it’s for guests or does it have someone’s stuff in it?

NeedAnExpert · 07/11/2019 17:54

Has it changed from when you stayed there before? It’s hard to know what exactly you’re objecting too.

And my crystal ball is broken.

MozzchopsThirty · 07/11/2019 17:54

Oh yes the dad is here so I know it's not an entire place for me. Last time the dad was here with his son

I read their reviews etc

My issue is I now have random man in next room who could be a serial rapist

OP posts:
Wilmalovescake · 07/11/2019 17:55

I have stayed in a similar one but each room had a lock. I don’t think I’d feel comfortable without.

Letthemysterybe · 07/11/2019 17:57

So you are renting a room in the family home, with the family (3 adult males) still present, and you’re pissed off because there is an additional guest?

FlibbertyGiblets · 07/11/2019 17:57

Mozzy I don't know what to say. Scary. Is the dad or the grown children there? Ask them wtf is happening.

NeedAnExpert · 07/11/2019 17:58

But the dad couldn’t be?

Alicia9999 · 07/11/2019 17:58

The listing should say "entire place" rather than "room" or words to that effect. What does the listing say?

Alicia9999 · 07/11/2019 17:59

My issue is I now have random man in next room who could be a serial rapist

Then probably don't stay in shared places with your children unless you can sure it's secure...

Alicia9999 · 07/11/2019 18:00

Sorry I don't know why I thought you had children with you!! Anyway.. I still think if you are bothered about it you should enquire in advance. What made you so sure that the dad and sons were ok the first time?

Letthemysterybe · 07/11/2019 18:00

Why is the guest a problem, but any of the 3 men that live there not a problem?

Preparingfor · 07/11/2019 18:02

No locks?! Surely the Dad was a stranger when you first went too?

Apolloanddaphne · 07/11/2019 18:02

Well I guess the dad and his sons could be serial rapists too but you were happy to stay the last time.

MozzchopsThirty · 07/11/2019 18:03

Not 3 men, dad (speaks no English)
His son and daughter

I imagine if they were killers / rapiists then the reviews wouldn't be so good

No problem with random Male other than I would expect to have a lock on the door

It's advertised as a double room in a family home and last time I just met the family

MozzchopsThirty · 07/11/2019 18:04

God why are people so sarky on MN these days 🙄
Do you speak to everyone like that?

OP posts:
Apolloanddaphne · 07/11/2019 18:06

Thing is if you are worried about it you need to stay in a hotel rather than a room in an airB&B. You can't be sure who the family are or what other guests they have staying and I don't think you can expect any say in that.

AnnaMagnani · 07/11/2019 18:07

I stay in loads of AirBnbs. Rarely had a lock on my door that works and common to have more than one room rented.

Fine as long as the owner/family are there.

If you want something different then stick to whole property or make absolutely sure with the owner before booking.

LizB62A · 07/11/2019 18:09

If you're so worried about random men being serial rapists, why on earth did you book into an AirBnB with a man living there !!

Itsallpetetong · 07/11/2019 18:11

My issue is I now have random man in next room who could be a serial rapist

you have to upload I.d to book now so hardly likely as they would be easily found. It could be another family member?
I don’t think people are sarky, just asking why you were okay with no lock with the hosts who were strangers but not another guest.
I hope you can speak to someone to put your mind at rest soon, I wouldn’t book room in house, always entire property because I would be nervous in this situation.
