Should I be worried about this? (AirBNB)

Staying at a place for the second time.
I ta advertised as a family home (dad and grown up children) who I met last time

Last nite I arrived late and thought it strange that there was very loud snoring in the room next door.
Thought maybe it was the dad

Anyway fast forward to tonight and I'm in the kitchen and a completely unknown Male has let himself in and gone upstairs

I don't know what to do, there are no bedroom door locks and was not advertised as 2 rooms to rent

WWYD?

It's advertised by a female as a family home

If I knew I'd never have booked it
I always look for female renters or couples
Have stayed in lots with no problem

It's not a family member he's fat white & bald
The family are Italian

I would probably feel uncomfortable too just because I wasn't expecting it. But the chances of him being a serial rapist are slim. And if the dad is still in the house and he's proven to be trustworthy last time you'll probably be ok.

Is there something you can put against the door like a chair for reassurance?

I think there are quite a lot of fat white bald Italians.

MozzchopsThirty · 07/11/2019 18:21

Yeah I have a chair so that might be an option
I don't even want to go to the bathroom for fear of bumping into stranger

MozzchopsThirty · 07/11/2019 18:22

Oh fgs 🙄

MozzchopsThirty · 07/11/2019 18:22

He's not Italian

Sounds unsettling - id push something against to door and try to get some sleep. Iron long are you there for?

elizabethdraper · 07/11/2019 18:25

What?? So the son and father cant be serial rapists, just the man in the other room?

I am at a loss here to see the issue. Do you normally suffer from such anxiety?

DM1209 · 07/11/2019 18:25

OP you sound like hard work and quite ignorant 'not Italian as white and fat' Hmm Just be a grown up and go and ask the hosts what the actual set up is and if they want repeat custom from slightly over the top females, then perhaps locks on doors.

FYI, not all male strangers are rapists!

BrieAndChilli · 07/11/2019 18:27

Could be boyfriend of the daughter, could be a friend of the dad, could be another renter
None of us know over the internet.
I think you always take the risk that there will be unknown people sharing unless it specifically says you will be the only one/are renting the entire place.
I don’t think you really have any comeback.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 07/11/2019 18:27

I only stay in AirBnB if it's on the basis of having the whole place, but I don't think it's usual to have a lock if it's shared. It's not a bad idea though.

RLABC · 07/11/2019 18:28

I don't even want to go to the bathroom for fear of bumping into stranger

What do you think would happen??

KaleidoscopeEyes · 07/11/2019 18:33

Honestly I think you're really overreacting! I know you need to be alert and all that but you're being a bit ridiculous imo.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 07/11/2019 18:40

So the family who own it are never allowed friends or family over to stay?!

And you’ve already stayed there before so you knew there was no lock. Why stay again if that’s something that bothers you?

midsomermurderess · 07/11/2019 18:53

And he has a random next door to him.

AgentProvocateur · 07/11/2019 18:56

Hmm Maybe next time look for a room in a nunnery.

Alicia9999 · 07/11/2019 19:04

Do you speak to everyone like that?
Only stupid people

If I knew I'd never have booked it
but you did book to return once you knew??

Staying in shared accomodation is more of a risk than staying in a whole property - it's as easy as sending a message saying 'is there a lock on the bedroom door?' if not, and this is a deal breaker, go to a hotel or a private airbnb. It really requires no more drama than that.

Crunchymum · 07/11/2019 19:23

Random man = potential serial rapist really is a massive leap @MozzchopsThirty

ItsGoingTibiaK · 07/11/2019 19:29

Is it Danny DeVito?

Scarlett555 · 07/11/2019 19:54

Maybe the Dad is gay and it's his partner

Ohyesiam · 07/11/2019 22:01

Can you get to any shops?
When I was back packing I used a rubber door wedge pushed in tight near the handle side and it’s almost impossible to open the door from the outside.

isadoradancing123 · 07/11/2019 22:08

Omg why would anyone stay in a strangers house where you share a bathroom, i would rather sleep at a railway station bench

LizB62A · 08/11/2019 00:18

I stayed in a college halls of residence in the summer, where there are no locks on the doors. I bought one of these, it basically prevents the door being opened when you've put the lock on the inside of the door (i.e. only locked when you're in the room)
Might be worth getting one for next time !
