What do you eat and drink when you’re ill?

I’m suffering badly at the moment from a virus, I feel awful Sad

I know it’s so important to keep eating and drinking but I can’t think of anything that is at all appetising. I’m struggling to even keep up my fluid intake as I just don’t fancy anything.

What do you opt for when you’re feeling ill? Hoping I can be tempted by one of your ideas Smile

No matter how ill I am, I can always manage Heinz tomato soup! And I drink lucozade when I’m ill because that’s what my mum used to give me when I was ill as a child so the nostalgia is really comforting.

AlexaShutUp · 07/11/2019 08:44

Lucozade was one of the highlights of being ill when I was a child.😁

These days, if I'm poorly, I always crave boiled egg with soldiers for some reason.

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 07/11/2019 08:47

Another vote for lucozade here!

Just soup. It's the only thing I want. Ideally home made but if not, Baxters which tastes almost home made.
And fruit teas like blackcurrant which I don't normally drink or home made toddies with lemon, ginger, turmeric etc.
When I start feeling better maybe some toast and fruit.

Hope you feel better soon OP.

AgnesNaismith · 07/11/2019 08:52

Lucozade and mashed potato with lots of salt and pepper

muddledmidget · 07/11/2019 08:57

If I'm home by myself, heinz tomato soup and a cheese sandwich made with thick white bread and real butter. If someone else can be persuaded, soft boiled or scrambled eggs or cheesy mash

pastapestoparmesan · 07/11/2019 09:01

Soup, toast, cheese on toast. If I feel like I need fruit but can’t face it, those squeezy baby food fruit things are nice.

HearMeSnore · 07/11/2019 09:06

Depends on what type of illness. If it's a sickness bug I eat small spoonfuls of plain vanilla ice cream. It's soothing on the throat, and if I throw up it somehow makes it easier and a bit less unpleasant. The first thing I usually fancy after the vomiting stops is fresh pineapple. Don't know why.

For a cold or flu I generally have porridge, soup and lots of hot drinks. Honey & lemon, lots of ginger tea and the occasional hot bovril always go down well.

CremeEggThief · 07/11/2019 09:09

If it's a sickness virus or just nausea/cramps without vomiting, I starve myself for a day. Then plain toast, lightly buttered; bananas and plain crackers and biscuits.

Bloodybridget · 07/11/2019 09:09

Toast and marmite, or scrambled eggs on toast. Weak tea with just a little milk.

Goldensunnydays81 · 07/11/2019 09:10

Hot squash is my go to drink, I had the flu last year after this got me through! And husband makes a nice broth soup

Hope your feeling better soon x

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/11/2019 09:15

I was ill last week. I thought I was dying.
I even said a prayer. Thank you for my life. Please look after those I love, especially DD and my nephews
. BlushGrin. I’m laughing and blushing because it was bloody dramatic. Hollywood sure missed a trick with me,I can tell you. Grin
I was up and about the next freakin day.

The only I could eat was tomato soup. Oh and digestive biscuits (plain) which I usually hate.

HeronLanyon · 07/11/2019 09:18

Mashed potato.
Custard (only time I ever eat it) - with cocoa stirred in it chocolate melted if you can stomach it.
Oatmeal/porridge.
Agree Heinz Tom soup -POSs with a little cheddar melted in.
Dry oatcake.
Milkshake - only time I ever drink and it’s wonderful.
Pasta - just with butter salt and pepper
Plain rice
All the beiges !!

horse4course · 07/11/2019 09:19

Hot weetabix

RoseDog · 07/11/2019 09:20

Ready salted crisps which is weird as I would never choose ready salted crisps, but when I'm poorly or hungover back in the day that's all I can eat!

dalmatianmad · 07/11/2019 09:22

Heinz tomato soup

HotSauceCommittee · 07/11/2019 09:25

I am in bed with a hideous cold and have had a cereal bar and a bag of fake Monster Munch from Lidl. I can't be arsed to even make toast, so these things are small and tasty and require very little effort. Get well soon x

Stravapalava · 07/11/2019 09:27

Lots of cups of tea, cuppa soups, canned soup, especially cream of chicken and mushroom. Crumpets. And Ovaltine.

Stravapalava · 07/11/2019 09:27

And readybrek with a banana cooked in.

WitchDancer · 07/11/2019 09:28

Chicken soup

RedRec · 07/11/2019 09:30

Hot orange squash. Jacket potatoes with just a little bit of butter and salt.

WhatHaveIFound · 07/11/2019 09:31

Soup, either chicken or tomato. Porridge or banana. Maybe some yoghurt. If it's DS not feeling well then i'd buy him chocolate milk/milkshake and DD always opts for smoothie.

Hope you're feeling better soon. Xx

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 07/11/2019 09:33

Hot juice....usually ribena or I got a gorgeous cherry one in lidl ages ago which I am eking out.
Apple tea....half to two thirds of a cup of boiling water topped up with apple juice and if you have any stem ginger a splash of the syrup from that is just lovely. This is especially nice if you are full of the cold.

Foodwise ... it's homemade chicken noodle soup, I usually have some in the freezer just in case. I really MUST get on and make some

A boiled egg chopped onto toast, or maybe scrambled.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 07/11/2019 09:34

If I can eat, then just wholemeal toast and soft fruit like strawberries. Ice lollies are good if you don't fancy drinking much.

Hope you feel better soon. 💐

notthemum · 07/11/2019 09:35

Sorry when I'm I'll I only drink small sips of R Whites lemonade and eat a few rich tea biscuits.
I don't eat or drink these at any other time.
Sorry you feel crap. Hope you get better soon💐💐
