What do you eat and drink when you’re ill?

I’m suffering badly at the moment from a virus, I feel awful Sad

I know it’s so important to keep eating and drinking but I can’t think of anything that is at all appetising. I’m struggling to even keep up my fluid intake as I just don’t fancy anything.

What do you opt for when you’re feeling ill? Hoping I can be tempted by one of your ideas Smile

Cheese pizza

Alicia9999 · 07/11/2019 10:10

You should definitely avoid dairy, as it makes mucus production bigger or faster or something... anyway, I feel it helps!

MoobaaMoobaa · 07/11/2019 10:13

Lucozade original here too. I agree it was the best thing about being ill Grin

Tomatoe soup, jacket potato with cheese and beans.

Just remembered scrambled egg. With cheese if you can stomach it. Best served on buttery granary toast if you're not too bad.

Amazed at the number of people who can face eggs when they are ill!

Besidesthepoint · 07/11/2019 12:40

Apple juice because it's the only carb heavy thing I can keep down when sick. I don't like apple juice but have diabetes and tend to get lows quickly so kind of have to.

thatsmyseat · 07/11/2019 21:01

Reading back through this made me smile as it’s so accurate Grin Today I’ve had toast, tomato soup, salt and vinegar crisps and Mcdonald’s chips Blush

To the PP (sorry I can’t find your post!) who said they end up having things they don’t normally like - that’s been me today as ALL I’ve wanted is a bacon sandwich when I’ve been a vegetarian for decades!

Also thanks so much for all the well wishes FlowersFlowers

Yes I’d heard about dairy making sore throats and congestion worse Sad Sucks as I really would love some cheese right now!

Currently dying from what can only be the black plague. Feel like I've swallowed 8754 razor blades and slime, it hurts to cough, my nose is hot, my back aches etc. The only thing I'm enjoying eating is lightly salted doritos and drinking orange tango Grin

Eggs are well known to settle a churning stomach! It's why they're a breakfast staple in Britain - land of the pissheads and hangovers haha

NotAClue101 · 07/11/2019 21:43

Since I was a little girl mine has always been boiled egg and toasted soldiers 😊 if a sickness bug, was always marmite on white toast

WhoKnewBeefStew · 07/11/2019 21:44

Mine is boiled sweets and coke

HeinzBlondeHate · 07/11/2019 21:53

Mine is full fat coca cola sometimes boiled and then into the fridge so it's flat and not fizzy and mcdonalds chips. I had hyperemesis and the only thing that saved me most of the time and I could keep down most of the time was flat coca cola and the salty McDonald's chips were a general keep down as well which is completely random given that even sucking ice cubes was unsuccessful the majority of the time !
Recently had a stay in hospital was Nil by mouth for a while first thing as soon as I was allowed fluids was to demand OH to go get multiple bottles of coca cola and shake the life out of them to get them less fizzy !!

Egghead68 · 07/11/2019 22:00

Hot toddies. Mashed swede and carrot with butter beans in tomato sauce from a jar. Ultimate comfort food (for me).

Knorr a chicken and noodle soup. The one you make 900ml of from a sachet. It's perfect for when you're ill.

RosieandFin · 07/11/2019 22:15

I always have a cheese and tomato flatbread from Tesco whether Im Ill or hungover. I don't cook it, just eat it straight from the pack. It seems to be the only thing I can stomach when I'm bad. Hope you feel better soon op.

basicbitch16 · 07/11/2019 22:18

@FacebookRager Exactly the same! Love that stuff but only eat it when I'm ill.

I would say, OP, if you can't think of anything you want, maybe you're not quite ready. Get well soon x

Mollpop · 07/11/2019 22:21
