What time is evening rush hour?

What time do you think of as evening rush hour?

I said 4-5 is peak round where we live.

DH said he's always thought rush hour was 5-6 but can't name a single person who isn't home by 5pm!

So, come and join us in our tedious debate of the evening..

I live very close to the motor way so j would say rush hour traffic is between 4.30- 7pm. That's by looking at the traffic.

PralineCookies · 24/10/2019 17:09

5-6.

JustaScratch · 24/10/2019 17:12

In London it's 7 - 10am and 4 - 7pm. Moved out a few years ago. Don't miss it!

jiskoot · 24/10/2019 17:13

I'd normallly say 5-6 but I've noticed where I live (South West) that it's much busier if I leave work at 4.30 compared to 5.30, tail end of school runs plus early commuters (and tourists!) I guess

DeathMetalMum · 24/10/2019 17:13

3.30 to 6.30 ish here. Roads are busier at school time about 3.30 onwards, morning is more of a rush hour 7.30-9ish.

pikapikachu · 24/10/2019 17:15

I don't know anyone who's home at 5. I'd say 5-6:30 in London and 5-6 here. There's a mini rush hour after schools out 3:15-4:15

managedmis · 24/10/2019 17:16

4-6

dementedpixie · 24/10/2019 17:17

I think traffic starts around 4pm and lingers until 6ish

HunterHearstHelmsley · 24/10/2019 17:18

5-6 by me

About 3-7 if I venture toward Birmingham!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 24/10/2019 17:19

I live 2 miles from my gym, if I leave at 4pm it takes me around 10 minutes to get there. If I leave at 5pm, I'm looking at 30-45 minutes. So quite a big difference.

Chewbecca · 24/10/2019 17:21

5-6 plus a mini one around school close time so 330 ish.

BlueCornsihPixie · 24/10/2019 17:22

I know no one home by 5!

I would say 4 30-7 tbh but peak is 5-6

DramaAlpaca · 24/10/2019 17:24

Our village, which is a bit of a traffic bottleneck, is at its busiest between 4.30 & 6.30.

Apolloanddaphne · 24/10/2019 17:25

My DH has to get out of the centre of Edinburgh to get home. I would say going by his experiences rush hour is between 4-7. He would never even think of leaving before 6 if driving. I don't know anyone who works and who is home by 5.

aintnothinbutagstring · 24/10/2019 17:28

We live in commutersville, I'd say peak rush hour is from 4 til 6, on a Friday afternoon it's pretty from when the school run starts and doesn't really improve.

OldEvilOwl · 24/10/2019 17:30

5-6 most people finish work at 5 - me included

BiddyPop · 24/10/2019 17:37

Starts around 4pm, doesn't finish until well after 7pm here.

I am never home before 5, really lucky if I'm there before 6, most days manage between 6-7 but its not unusual (at all) to be later than 7 or even 8pm.

Buunylover · 24/10/2019 17:55

Defo 4-6 where I live

isayhitocats · 24/10/2019 18:32

I don't know anyone who is home for 5pm

Asta19 · 24/10/2019 18:45

I’m in London and it’s 5-7 here. The last office I was in was the opposite side of London to where I live and if I left at 4 the journey was a breeze. If I left at 5 it was hell on earth! I was lucky as I could do flexi so some days I’d finish at 4, others at 7, just to avoid the worst of it.

ALongHardWinter · 24/10/2019 18:59

Where I live,it seems to be 3pm until 8pm. But then I do live near Heathrow airport..........

Frazzled2207 · 24/10/2019 19:00

5-6 though roads are busy from 3pm onwards.
I have had several jobs and all finished at 5.30pm.

Wizzbangpop · 24/10/2019 19:01

3:30-6 here. From schools out onwards Basically a large city is an hour away so by the time they get home it's 6ish. Also a large employer nearby which finishes between 4&6

Lovemenorca · 24/10/2019 19:02

Can’t name anyone home who isn’t home by 5?

Do you not know or friends with anyone who isn’t a professional? Solicitors, architects, etc

And actually non professionals. Shops close at 5 (generally later)

Danglingmod · 24/10/2019 19:07

Several posters actually said they don't know anyone who IS home by 5.

To which I would say: do you not know anyone who works in a school, a shop, local govt, a hospital (nurse handover in our hospital is 2pm), fabrication/engineering (usually 7am start, 3/4pm finish)?
