Liverpudlians

Would I be wrong in saying that people from Liverpool must be the friendliest people in the country?

I've spent the last few days up there and everyone was so kind and lovely. I live in the East Midlands and I think people here are nice, but Liverpool takes it up to another level!

I found myself looking on rightmove before heading back home as I couldn't bear to leave!

What a lovely place!

@fazakerleyjackie love your username. I applied for a job at what was at the time Fazakerley hospital and had no idea how to pronounce. Spent many fun eves at karaoke at the Forresters on the main road near the hospital

Houseextender1 · 18/10/2019 15:23

Thank you, OP.

fazakerleyjackie · 18/10/2019 15:37

@ComeOnGordon The Foresters is not for the faint hearted. Respect!
I heard it's not doing so well since you stopped being the top turn there!
I recommend the A and E at the hospital, lovely volunteers there who bring cups of tea round. Thinking of putting them on Trip Advisor Grin
@beckyvardy I've always wanted to do the Williamson Tunnels, you reminded me of the Mike Slemen " Haunted Liverpool" books also, well spooky.
There's a Shiverpool Tour! Wooooooo!

Aww, this thread's making me homesick. 🙂 Need to arrange a little trip back!

ImNotYourGranny · 18/10/2019 15:49

I dunno. Obviously I am one of the friendliest people on earth but we moved away from Liverpool to get away from all the scallies fighting with the police and each other night after night.

Miaowing · 18/10/2019 15:55

I'm from Liverpool left in 1993. Go back to visit family but can honestly say I'd never go back to live there.

I don't know what it is, it just doesn't float my boat.

I like living in the south west.

DianaT1969 · 18/10/2019 16:14

I was on a call to Lloyds bank customer service today and spoke to two customer service advisors with Liverpool accents. Both sounded very genuine, friendly and cheerful. Efficient too. If only every call centre was based there...

howwillthispanout · 18/10/2019 16:39

Take a trip over the water OP - West Kirby Marine Lake lovely, New Brighton prom for best views of the city (and quirky parks and walks), mouch around Penny Lane and go to Lark Lane next to a Sefton Park

ComeOnGordon · 18/10/2019 17:20

@fazakerleyjackie it wasn’t for the faint hearted then either but even tho it was rough, people were nothing but friendly to us. Not sure I’d be going in these days tho.

Crystal87 · 18/10/2019 17:47

It's like anywhere, it's got its rough and its posh places. I cringe hearing a scouse accent on tv though. Probably just because it's familiar.

LoveMySituation · 20/10/2019 22:47

This is a heartwarming thread OP. Liverpool is my favourite place in the world. As you say, the people are great. I hope to be there again someday. Permanently. I'm a southerner but it feels like home to me. Just love watching the ships in the Mersey

Hippymama · 21/10/2019 10:23

Love this thread. I'm a manc but I lived and worked in Liverpool for 13 years and loved it. Super friendly place. The people I worked with were fantastic and I'm still in touch with many of them now, over 10 years later. Since I lived there we've lived all round the UK and it's definitely the friendliest place I've lived. I think living there has rubbed off on me a bit as I got so used to strangers in shops and at bus stops etc striking up conversations that I do it too! Since I lived there, I've lived in 4 other parts of the UK and I've always had no problems getting to know people as I will chat to everyone 😂

ReadyPayerTwo · 21/10/2019 10:46

How lovely OP! I've never been but am Googling 'shopping in Liverpool' now!

darkriver19886 · 21/10/2019 10:51

I am from Manchester but, lived in Formby for a while after I had major heart surgery. I will always appreciate the kindness. Plus

Bluesheep8 · 21/10/2019 11:45

Yep, friendly warm city with the loveliest and kindest people in my experience

Time40 · 21/10/2019 11:53

I couldn't agree more, OP. It's the friendliest place I've ever been, by a long way.

And I had another experience there - I have never got into so many conversations about art with total strangers. It was amazing. Liverpudlians are really interested in and care about art and culture.

Horsemad · 21/10/2019 12:11

Last year I went to see the Giants in Liverpool - it was AMAZING! So many people really enjoying their lovely city and relishing the street theatre.

OldNameChanger · 21/10/2019 12:12

I adore Liverpool. Spent a weekend there recently for a hen do and everyone we met was so friendly.
Love the scouse accent too.

KanelbulleKing · 21/10/2019 21:04

This thread made me all nostalgic for the shithole area I grew up in. So I've spent some time on google street view and it's all gone. New houses, open green spaces, retail parks. Obviously this is a good thing as it really was a shithole when I was growing up, but I feel still feel really sad that the haunts of my childhood don't exist anymore. There's not even a trace of my school beyond a line or two on an article about the history of Liverpool. I'm feeling my age tonight.

BezalHell · 21/10/2019 21:36

All this talk of Fazakerley reminds me of my DP thinking it was pronounced "Fazzaccarelli", like some Italian impresario Grin. I still skit him for that.

Mrskeats · 21/10/2019 21:41

Scouser here living ‘over the water’ now in chester.
I so miss being in Liverpool every day; the friendly thing is so so true.
Years ago a friend fell over in town and ripped her tights. So many people came over to help it was embarrassing! A lovely lady actually nipped in primark and got her some new ones!
There’s loads to do as well; loads of cultural stuff as well as great shopping and nightlife. We got married in St. George’s Hall- the people were so lovely.
