Would I be wrong in saying that people from Liverpool must be the friendliest people in the country?

I've spent the last few days up there and everyone was so kind and lovely. I live in the East Midlands and I think people here are nice, but Liverpool takes it up to another level!

I found myself looking on rightmove before heading back home as I couldn't bear to leave!

What a lovely place!

Any scousers got recommendations of what to see next time we go? Both for a child and child-free few days?

Sefton Park

The Anglican Cathedral

Toddlerteaplease · 18/10/2019 01:06

Totally agree. I also live in the East Midlands. My friend was promoted and moved there five years ago. And I've got to know the city very well. I love it. I would move there in a heartbeat but I decided that I couldn't work at Alder Hey. I get Liverpoolsick if I do t got there often enough!

Toddlerteaplease · 18/10/2019 01:08

Just got back from a stop off in Liverpool en route from the Lake District and going back on Saturday. Lucky me! I used to like my city but not any more, Liverpool is buzzing!

RhinoskinhaveI · 18/10/2019 01:16

I agree 😊 big up for the scousers 💗🤩💗

ginrummy1 · 18/10/2019 01:39

I'm from Scotland and agree with you op, they are fab, it's a great city

StarlitTrees · 18/10/2019 07:02

Toddlerteaplease I'm a nurse and after checking rightmove I had a quick look at vacancies on NHS jobs!

Totally agree, fab city!

I was born & bred there but live elsewhere now. Still love going back though. Grin

Like a previous poster said, I find Newcastle very similar.

Familyband · 18/10/2019 07:18

We're also from East Mids. DS has just moved to Liverpool to study music at LIPA. Right from visiting at the first open day we've loved it. Looking forward to visiting next weekend.

Cassimin · 18/10/2019 07:43

Child free visit, you can do the two cathedrals, one at each end of Hope street.
Then onto the Liverpool museum, new library, Walker art gallery.
Then a walk down to the dock.
Here you’ve got loads of restaurants and bars. The international slavery museum, the maritime museum and the Tate.
Then onto the Baltic market for dinner and trendy bars!
The kids will also love the museums and art galleries as they cater for them too.
There’s always shows on at night as we’ve got the Everyman, playhouse, empire, Epstein theatres.
All of this is within walking distance so once you’re in town you can see everything.
If you’re in a car you’ve got Anthony gormleys ‘another place’ 15 mins drive on Crosby beach, or Formby nature reserve.
Also in the city you can visit Sefton park, calderstones park with its new mansion house and Sudley museum in Sudley park.
Croxteth park has a high wire adventure trail, farm and Victorian house and Speke hall is a large Tudor house with play area and a maze.
Don’t forget all the Beatle stuff too.
We never get bored!!

Thetruth02 · 18/10/2019 07:58

I’m a born and bred Londoner and both dh and I always comment on how lovely Liverpudlians are whenever we do any work with them (in fact we prefer always to work with Northerners over Southerners generally!)

Cassimin · 18/10/2019 08:18

Oh, forgot to mention otterspool. It’s along the seafront. They’ve got high wire and adventure playground.
You can hire the city bikes and cycle down there from the Albert dock or walk if you feel upto it.
Knowsley safari park, about 1/2 hour from the city centre.
I feel like I work for the tourist board!!

GingersAreLush · 18/10/2019 08:35

Love Liverpool! It really is the friendliest place I’ve ever been to (lived nearby for about a decade). Can’t wait to go back even if it’s only for a visit.

ActualHornist · 18/10/2019 08:46

This is nice Smile I’m one of the university students who came and never left - I’ve lived the same time here as I did at ‘home’ and I love it!

Places to go I’d agree with all the above - don’t forget the Walker Art Gallery - it’s right by the World Museum, I’m not sure if people don’t know but they’ve got a lovely kids section, volunteers will do little crafty bits and there’s quizzes you can take round. The library is architecturally beautiful too but the kids might be bored with that one.

Jimdandy · 18/10/2019 08:51

We’re East Midlands too (Leicester) and went to Leeds last weekend and couldn’t believe how friendly they were all. Shop assistants actually go out of their way to be helpful and chat!

You just get grunted at where we live

Cassimin · 18/10/2019 08:55

Yes, I love taking the kids to the walker, we usually do the walker, the library (go to the kids part downstairs) they’ve got a nice area to sit and spend time looking at the books and computers for them to have a go on.
Then we go to the museum with a packed lunch and have it in the picnic area in there, or on a sunny day go to the park across the road.
Day out for free!
The museum often has exhibitions on, we all went to see the terracotta warriors, it was great.

StarlitTrees · 18/10/2019 09:19

I think we ruled out places like the art gallery because we thought the kids would be bored (particually our almost 3 year old) I didn't realise they catered well for kids too. Might have to look at a few other museums when we are next up there with them

The Hardman’s house on Rodney street is well worth a visit, it’s a National Trust property. Come out to waterloo on the train and see the Gormley statues on the beach. They were the only bit of Waterloo I knew when I moved I here!

fazakerleyjackie · 18/10/2019 11:47

Cassimin and all, you are doing us proud!
Not everyone's taste but if there anyone with an interest in WW2. Have a look at the Western Approaches " Secret" underground bunker. ( It's signposted now Grin)

Kit30 · 18/10/2019 12:01

I've lived in Manchester for years because of work but still go back to Liverpool & the Wirral to shop and for days out. People there are lovely and service is outstanding - everyone makes you feel as though you matter.
Always made me laugh when London friends came to my parents and were astounded by the fact that we had (pristine) beaches, countryside and the fact that we there's a train that actually GOES UNDER the Mersey. Love it and would move back in a heartbeat.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/10/2019 12:24

@StarlitTrees I arranged a visit to Alder Hey. The staff were lovely and went to huge effort to show me round. Had I not been happy on my current ward I'd have probably moved there. Though I wasn't keen on the way it worked. I could also have bought a lovely house up there for my budget. As it happens I got a good deal on my current rental so bought that. But at least I'd got moving to Liverpool out of my systems (for now!)

Toddlerteaplease · 18/10/2019 12:27

I've joined a walking group in Liverpool. They all think I'm mad, because it's a two hour drive to get there. But it's a lovely group and it feels much more easily than a group in the east mids would do.

Cassimin · 18/10/2019 13:48

fazakerleyjackie Reading your post reminded me of the Williamson tunnels, you can learn all about the mole of edge hill.
We’re getting a Eureka soon.
Can’t wait for the weekend, writing all of these places down makes me want to get out and about.
If St. John’s beacon is open I’ll do a little trip there!

amusedbush · 18/10/2019 14:07

Glaswegians are the same!

I'm from Edinburgh but have lived in Glasgow for six years now. I struggled when I first moved here because people in Edinburgh wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire but Glaswegians are really forward and chatty.

Whenever we pass pushy salespeople or charity collectors in the street DH tells me to put on my "Edinburgh face" to discourage them from talking to us BlushGrin
