Liverpudlians

Would I be wrong in saying that people from Liverpool must be the friendliest people in the country?

I've spent the last few days up there and everyone was so kind and lovely. I live in the East Midlands and I think people here are nice, but Liverpool takes it up to another level!

I found myself looking on rightmove before heading back home as I couldn't bear to leave!

What a lovely place!

I agree that Glaswegians are similar. I find Glasgow feels like a home away from home. Similar industrial backgrounds and so on I suppose. Similar building styles. Also excellent shopping!

BuildBuildings · 17/10/2019 21:19

I got a massive soft spot for people from Liverpool!

BuildBuildings · 17/10/2019 21:23

@katielilly I'm from Newcastle. We were recently voted the friendliest City. I could not disagree more! People here are really not friendly in my 30 + years of experience. I personally feel the city has quite an aggressive edge. My partner agrees. I'm amazed other people have a different experience. Obviously they do as it was voted friendliest city! Sorry don't want to derail the thread about lovely Liverpool!

socialistmamma · 17/10/2019 21:24

Scouser here and I love this thread! Come back soon OP! Grin

BeeFarseer · 17/10/2019 21:24

Aww, this is lovely to hear. Really glad you liked our city!

I'm another introvert scouser but by our standards, I probably come across as extroverted in other areas of the country!

turnthebiglightoff · 17/10/2019 21:37

Liverpudlians, Glaswegians and (is there a nickname?) people from Edinburgh are definitely the friendliest people in the UK, I've found!

StarlitTrees · 17/10/2019 21:40

You're all making me want to get straight back up the M6!

Irish Scouser living on the Wirral! Thank you am very proud of Liverpool! Best place in the world to live! Aside from Ireland that is!!

ginghambox · 17/10/2019 21:41

Friendly yes, but whoever told them they are funny was lying.

mrswarthog · 17/10/2019 21:44

Thank you kindly OP, come back soon!

Namechangenecessity · 17/10/2019 21:47

I am a Manc 😁and I love love love Liverpool. My mum was 70 last year and my sisters and I took her to Liverpool, we toured the Beatles sites from the songs, went on the docks for lunch, went to Paddy’s Wigwam for a pray ( stunning place) and then on the beer for the afternoon. She said it was the best day she’d ever had 😊 . More recently my friends and I went on a day/night out, every pub we went to was fab, lovely people, the girls were so friendly ( and so glam) . And the Blokes we spoke to were funny, had a laugh but very respectful as well. Can’t wait to go back.

Redcrayons · 17/10/2019 21:57

I'm a wool with scouse parents and love Liverpool. Agree on friendliness and chattiness. My dad could strike up a conversation with postbox.

When he was discharged from hospital a few years it took us best part of an hour to get out as he had to say a 'quick' bye to practically everyone on the building.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/10/2019 22:06

I'm also from East Midlands OP and I love Liverpool too! I would move there in a heartbeat but I wouldn't want to uproot DS away from school, his dad and all our family here.

dementedma · 17/10/2019 22:12

Married to a scouser and live not far from Glasgow. Have to disagree with Glaswegians being friendly ...find the opposite is true and hate going over there.
This will start a riot but I have always found Londoners really friendly. I visit often for work and always find people cheery and helpful. Lots of 'alright darlin?' stuff and people being kind and chatty. I'd take London over Glasgow any day

BoswellsBollocks · 17/10/2019 22:22

Having never been to Liverpool before I found myself having to go there twice this year for different reasons. Both times I totally fell in love with the place.

The second time I was staying in a hotel in Aintree, I decided to get the bus to the nearest station and the driver refused to take payment as it wasn’t very far, and a lovely young mum made a point of telling me where the stop was so I didn’t miss it. I couldn’t get over how friendly everyone was.

I can’t wait to go back again.

Everythingmagnolia · 17/10/2019 22:30

I am a Wirral girl and agree that Livepool is a great friendly city!
I lived in the South East for 2 years which I found really unfriendly, no one talks there, I don't know how anyone ever gets to know anyone!

We recently relocated to Newcastle and find it very similar to Liverpool, we love it here!

Pinkvici22 · 17/10/2019 22:32

Totally agree...entirely biased as my whole family are Scousers (I’m welsh!), but yes, I adore them 💓

Wheninfrome · 17/10/2019 22:32

What a lovely thing to say OP! I found the same when I lived in County Durham for a couple of years - I'm a Yorkshire lass and used to people being forward but also a bit brusque but the peeps further oop north were so so friendly Smile

100PercentThatBitch · 17/10/2019 22:33

Another one who was like

"Oh please let this be nice!"

The city is such a great place with great people but it has had so many knocks in my lifetime.

I'm always Grin when people have that moment of realisation at how great Liverpool and Scousers are

fazakerleyjackie · 17/10/2019 23:01

What a lovely thread StarlitTrees Flowers, made up to read it! Thanks for posting it.

KnickerBockerAndrew · 17/10/2019 23:05

Yes yes yes! I'm Welsh but sometimes go to liverpool with work. Loveliest people on the planet, I always end up chatting to strangers. I could fall in love every day in that city. The lads are so bloody great.

confusedrn · 17/10/2019 23:13

I went to uni in Liverpool and stayed after for three years. They are a wonderful, friendly, funny bunch and I love that city dearly!!

StarlitTrees · 17/10/2019 23:31

Any scousers got recommendations of what to see next time we go? Both for a child and child-free few days?

This time (with DS5 and DS2) we went to the world museum, Mattel Play and general taking in of the Albert Docks, shopping around Liverpool One and Imagine That!

Was going to head up to Southport but the weather forecast (wrongly) predicted rain! So gave it a miss this time Angry

I love Liverpool and Scousers are some of my favourite people (I'm a Londoner living in the south west)

Amys136 · 18/10/2019 00:14

Recommendations with the kids- the ferry if the weathers nice, Speke Hall, Formby to see the squirrels and saint johns tower if it’s still open.

Recommendations without the kids- head to the top of the Anglican cathedral and to the Baltic market for independent food stalls.

I think in Liverpool we are so lucky all our museums are free. I always forget when I’m in different places that you have to pay, you can’t just pop in for a 10 min wander round if you are early or bored
