How many big spiders have you had this month?

I've just found 2 this evening and now feel really on edge. I hate seeing them and really don't like killing them. Just wondering how many other people have had them in the house this month.

We've been averaging about 2/3 big ones a night (although a few have been daytime!), literally never had so many! In my last house we had about 3 a year so 3 a night just feels ridiculous! I hate them!! We've had a few absolutely massive ones! One of which was on a bag I picked up off the floor, nearly passed out!

Mummoomoocow · 26/09/2019 21:39

I had 3 the past month, I velcro’ed mosquito nets to the windows that we open and they’ve all tried to find their way in. I squirt them with water to get them to bugger off the nets! Serious arachnophobe here and it’s driving me insane. I’ll be going to the gp for help soon because it’s driving me to ocd

Mummoomoocow · 26/09/2019 21:41

That’s 3 big ones I.e.latger than a 50p

Heismyopendoor · 26/09/2019 21:42

We had one giant one today, and I mean GIANT!! It ran away before I could kill it and now fuck knows where it is.

valleysareus · 26/09/2019 21:42

I've got two trapped under glasses until my partner gets home.

Heismyopendoor · 26/09/2019 21:43

The one I had today was literally about 5 times a 50p!! Dont know how I’m going to sleep.

Gertie75 · 26/09/2019 21:43

Only one so far this year and it was in my 6 year olds bedroom who is terrified of even money spiders.

MrsPandigital · 26/09/2019 21:43

Apparently the weather this summer has been ideal for spiders, and hence why there are so many 😭

CurbsideProphet · 26/09/2019 21:46

Unfortunately quite a few. One was in my boot Shock I felt something and took it off to shake out a stone. A big fat spider also jumped out Shock I screamed so loudly I made my own ears ring.

happytoday73 · 26/09/2019 21:49

Lots recently... However today I was kneeling on kitchen floor and a HUGE spider casually wander past next to me. Its currently under a bowl in middle of kitchen waiting for my hubbies.. Far too big for me..

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/09/2019 21:50

I stripped the bed earlier and one came out of my pillow case and ran under the bed. I actually don't know where I'm going to sleep now.

speakout · 26/09/2019 21:53

Too many to count. It's not peak spider season until next month so expect more.
I just let them be. Happy to share my home with them

Kalim8 · 26/09/2019 22:01

Only one so far. It was nonchalantly hanging around in the bath.
Luckily I spotted it a) before switching the shower on b) before the cats did.
I rehoused it in the undergrowth-by-shouty-neighbour-fence.

Once I found 3 big ones in the bath. They looked as though they were having a stand-off.

Another time I found a large one and a small one in the bath. I decided to deal with them after work, but when I returned there was only the big spider and a leg. I was Shock.

OneStepOneStumble · 26/09/2019 22:07

I've removed 3 today!!! Definitely feels like more than other years - we've just moved so I thought it was just the house but maybe not judging by this 😩

sue51 · 26/09/2019 22:14

Loads. We've been away for a couple of weeks and it looks like they've taken over the house. DH has been busy removing their webs with the hoover. Dcat has been useless.

YorkieTheRabbit · 26/09/2019 22:31

Why do I even look at these threads Shock

mynameisMrG · 26/09/2019 22:33

We’ve had about ten but we live on a farm and always get loads in September. It doesn’t matter what I do, they still appear. I hate this time of year. Roll on to next month where they disappear again

bubblebar · 27/09/2019 06:41

@speakout nooooo! I thought September was peak spider month!

They are so bloody fast too. There's no way I could get a glass over it.

Does anyone use a spider catcher? I saw one on amazon but according to the reviews it's not powerful enough for the bigger ones .

I use my Dyson hand held. I keep it empty as I hoover up so many dog hairs I pretty much empty it every day. Hoovering them up doesn’t harm them and then because the Dyson is so easy to ping open it’s easy to put them outside. Though most of them we let stay, depends where they are. And yes, loads more than usual this year (also hundreds of craneflies, must be something to do with the weather we’ve had).

AuntieMarys · 27/09/2019 06:54

One in the bedSad
I shoved my dh out so I could get away from the big fucker

Roselilly36 · 27/09/2019 06:57

Loads, I am on spider duty always! DH & DS’ living here are terrified of them! 😂

NbyNW · 27/09/2019 06:58

Only one so far, who's taken up residency in my warm velvety curtains. He zips out to say hi when I open them. Cat has left him be. Or her, could be a female.

ExpletiveDelighted · 27/09/2019 06:58

A few, but we have far less generally since we got cats. The garden is full of them in webs though.

StormOfSekhmet · 27/09/2019 07:06

I have had three, my Son screamed the place down because one appeared on the wall next to him, and then ran off somewhere. I saw two, I say hello and leave them to it. Not bothered by them.

Ellabella989 · 27/09/2019 07:13

One big one so far but there might have been more as DP knows to just deal with them without telling me. I’ve never met anyone more scared of spiders than me (had therapy which didn’t work) and he can’t be bothered with the panic i’ll have all day if he mentions there was one in the house. Finding one in the bed would probably kill me off.
