How many big spiders have you had this month?

I've just found 2 this evening and now feel really on edge. I hate seeing them and really don't like killing them. Just wondering how many other people have had them in the house this month.

@FreshwaterBay More than orgasms but that's normal.

Lol

Only 2 so far, a massive one on the stairs, that was in awkward place on the skirting board, knew my spider catcher would fail and it did, ended up with it chasing me down the stairs, afraid he ended up dead.

One last night in corner off living room wall, which I left and this thread has reminded me and his now missing Confused

So many arghhhhh but spider stop sprayed outsides doorways etc works I got it years ago from betterwear

BellatrixLeStrangest · 27/09/2019 12:52

I've had one in my hair and it was enormous. Spotted by a small family member.. 😬

dancerdog · 27/09/2019 12:53

After 2 particularly shocking giant spiders I went to the park yesterday and gathered 76 conkers. Now placing them round the house. Also ordered insectorol spray from amazon.

Our spider watch method is that the person who spots the spider doesn't take their eyes off it (so that we know where it is ), and screams blue murder until the reinforcements arrive. Reinforcements bring pyramid-shaped spider catcher (we keep one on each floor) and attempt to catch it. Then it is taken across the street and released.
If too big to fit in the spider catcher, then on to hoover, or hammer or paint tin in increasing levels of panic.

These feckers are HUGE this year.

timeforawine · 27/09/2019 12:58

We've had 4 that are classed as giant house spiders, about the size of the rim of a pint glass.
Other than that lost count of how many average sized ones (shudders)

I'm not going to lie. Reading this thread has me looking all around in fear that there's one creeping up right now. Nowhere is safe!

Steviestamborine · 27/09/2019 13:06

I was just dropping off to sleep a couple of nights ago when a huge one ran across my bed. They don’t bother me much but that was a shock

brassbrass · 27/09/2019 13:07

4!

  1. on the sofa next to me one evening caught and removed.
  2. in DS1's bed never caught!
  3. in DS2's bed crawling on his back caught and removed.
  4. not technically in the house but has a large web going from the window box attaching to the sitting room window making it all look a bit grim.
TinyMystery · 27/09/2019 13:23

I’ve removed three so far but I’d welcome some more if they’d see off the ridiculous number of crane flies hanging around my house!

bubblebar · 27/09/2019 13:26

I'm reading these posts and laughing at the extremes some of us go to. I won't be laughing tonight though if I see another one!

🤣🤣
brassbrass · 27/09/2019 13:43

the person who spots the spider doesn't take their eyes off it (so that we know where it is ), and screams blue murder until the reinforcements arrive. Having moved as far away as possible.

This is my one and only lifetime strategy.

gymraes · 27/09/2019 13:54

Was told Autumn is spider mating season - they're out there on the 'look'. (A whole new meaning to 'Speed' dating ???). A huge one lives under my washing machine-appears on the slightest (human) movement, seems to eat from the cat bowl. I appreciate other's dislike/phobia but I quite like spiders.

Ringsender2 · 27/09/2019 13:56

Have only seen one, but it was huuuuuuge!

blackcat86 · 27/09/2019 13:57

We've had about 10 including the biggest spider I've ever seen in our conservatory (I kept the door shut until DH got home) and one that DH threw a coaster at and killed. I've never loved that man so much! Oh and DD (1) pulled one out of her toy box and promptly rolled over it. I hate spider month.

ContinuityError · 27/09/2019 14:55

There’s a big spider living by our kitchen windowsill. S/he is doing a good job of dealing with all the daddy long legs (which I really don’t like) so is more than welcome to stay.

Crunchymum · 27/09/2019 15:28

I wont tempt fate but we're a top floor maisonette so I figure they visit the downstairs neighbour first.

We went for a canal walk a few weekends back and counted 78 spiders, in the bushes, on our way back.

cinderellainyellakissedafella · 28/09/2019 07:25

Last weekend we had two huge spiders. I left it to dp though.

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 28/09/2019 07:28

I'd almost welcome the some big ones instead of our false widow infestation

Pollydocket · 28/09/2019 07:39

I quite like them, we let them stay.
MY son likes to collected them and release them in his room to breed😂😂

Silvercatowner · 28/09/2019 08:58

Lots of spindly cellar spiders (which I am quite fond of) but no big house spiders. I think the cellar spiders keep the house spiders away. We are moving house soon and may need to take the cellar spiders with us.

Ronsters · 28/09/2019 09:02

None so far, I'm semi rural and we usually get loads. Not many garden spiders either, those brown, freckly ones with the white cross marks on their back. Usually get loads of those outside but not many this year.
I do have a whopper that lives under the runner of the patio doors but that's there all the time.
