Ridiculous situation: I’ve got behind with my wheelie bin collection and I can’t catch up

2 weekly collection. I went away and asked my cat sitter to put the wheelie bin out but she forgot. I’ve been running behind ever since Blush

I recycle everything I can but have 4 kids and out council don’t take glass/tin foil/plastic tubs/any pre packaged stuff

How the hell am I supposed to catch back up? Our local tip is open 3 days a week (I’m at work). Neighbours bins are full (I’ve asked). Short of paying someone to take it away how do I catch up?!

Start using carrier bags for your rubbish, and when full drop in the nearest litter bin where do you get carrier bags from? Our Tesco has stopped now.

I can't buy fewer things that are in plastic,we have no green grocer and no accessable butcher,so it's Tesco or Aldi. I used to unwrap and leave plastics at the shop, might start that again.

Well worth a fiver!

NoSquirrels · 27/09/2019 13:36

Hooray! Cheaper than almost any other option. Hurrah for bin men.

Hooray!

Get you with your bribeable bin men! Ours are sticklers for the rules Grin

I have been known to book a holiday on a Non Black Bin Week just so I don’t have to face the horror that is a full bin. And our tip is only a couple of miles away, it’s just such a faff getting there and being ordered about to the right container.

Take small amounts of the landfill/incinerator waste and put it in public litter bins?

I got behind with my recycling last year. It was like a military operation catching up again Hmm.

I used bread bags or carefully opened toilet roll wrap for excess waste bags.

Love your bin men though!

Wow we're lucky here.

1 normal wheely bin for general rubbish, & 1 normal wheely bin for recycling shared between 12 flats. Glass recycling over the road.

Normal is collected every day except Sunday.

Recycling is twice a week.

Never had a problem with full bins however at our last address recycling bin was shared between 15 flats and only emptied once a week and within hours it was full again Angry

At Christmas I took a couple of bags to work and threw it in the skip there. also done the same when I had a new fridge delivered and they didn't take the packaging.

Treeli · 27/09/2019 17:35

The kids were all watching out of the window convinced they would take the fiver and leave the bags 😂

So nice coming home to a fresh start wheelie bin!!

Can you make eco bricks out of the plastic stuff ? Most big towns have a drop off point .
