Today I tried on a 'midi skirt' and came to the terrible realisation that I have the figure of a nun

Have you actually worked out your body shape?

Trinny and Susannah are really good at describing them!

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 21/09/2019 20:25

Grin sorry OP this cracked me up! They are terrible on me with flats, I think they are just about passable with heels

RandomMess · 21/09/2019 20:26

I have never been able to wear a midi dress or skirt 😂

Hoppinggreen · 21/09/2019 20:27

I saw a picture of someone in a pleated midi and trainers, looked good so I ordered the same outfit online. I looked like a square nun

ThePoliticsofY5 · 21/09/2019 20:28

I don't think heels would help because I am quite cankly.

In my next life I would love be be gamine.

I generally have a good figure, tall, long legs. Put me in a midi skirt and I might as well add a beige cardi

AnotherEmma · 21/09/2019 20:29

Midi skirts are terrible
Most things that are in fashion are terrible

Jupiters · 21/09/2019 20:46

Midis are a tricky length for a lot of people. I'm only 5"1 so they end on the wrong place for me and make me look really frumpy.

NoTheresa · 21/09/2019 20:49

Midi skirts in satin are very attractive.

missyB1 · 21/09/2019 20:49

The only people who look good in them are 6ft tall size 0 models. The rest of us look like nuns! Grin

drspouse · 21/09/2019 20:51

They would be nearly maxi on me.
I can only wear things that end at a slim point (just below knees, or ankles).

Knitclubchatter · 21/09/2019 20:58

jeepers, what makes you think nuns have unshapely figures?
poor nuns having their style appropriated.

ThePoliticsofY5 · 21/09/2019 20:59

in satin?

Noooooo. The pleated one was bad enough.

13 years of convent education? Grin

Midi dresses can be good, depending on the cut. Midi skirts make me look like a short, fat, dumpy lady of late middle age.

Gingernaut · 21/09/2019 21:02

Midi skirts would be floor length on me, or leave me with a bridal style train.

gostiwooz · 21/09/2019 21:03

Pleats? I haven't dared go near a pleated skirt for 30 years Grin

DontCallMeShitley · 21/09/2019 21:09

Mid calf is the most unflattering length on anyone apparently. It certainly is on me.

If the hems hits the biggest part of the calf you will look dumpy. if you are already dumpy you will look wide, very wide.

Above the ankle is a good length. Any longer and if you are like me you will get caught in it and fall over, or if you have boots with fastenings on the outside edge they will catch it in and tie your legs together as you walk. I know this, and my boots have tape on the buckles now.

Camomila · 21/09/2019 21:32

I like midi skirts/above the ankle length.
I have a pleated sequin one from Top Shop - very not nun like!

(I like nuns, they remind me of nursery)

Muddlingalongalone · 21/09/2019 21:36

Omg this was me. Saw a fab skirt in top shop. Despite not having shopped there for 10-15 years thought I'd try it on.
Eeek - huge mistake! Horrendous.

Grasspigeons · 21/09/2019 21:42

Which lenghth is midi? Is it midcalf?

OkayGo · 21/09/2019 21:47

I look pretty shit in everything to be fair Grin

Butterymuffin · 21/09/2019 21:50

They look awful on almost everyone. Steer clear.

Deadringer · 21/09/2019 21:59

If I had a figure like the queen it would be a huge improvement.

AuntieStella · 21/09/2019 22:14

Yes, midi is mid-calf, and it's my favourite skirt length
