Today I tried on a 'midi skirt' and came to the terrible realisation that I have the figure of a nun

Or perhaps the queen.

It was bad.

Bad bad bad.

Oh no I have 2 midi skirts that are about knee-length and almost pencil skirt shape. I like to think they look good but now I'm having doubts!

chantico · 21/09/2019 22:31

Skirts that are 'about knee length' are knee length, not midi
(Big clue in the description!)

I know there was a bit of wrong/misleading/confusing/irritating misuse of terms by some brands, but now that midis are properly back, I though that brief inaccurate fad had died out

NoTheresa · 21/09/2019 23:18

I have this one. It’s lovely. ( I grant you the pleated skirts are ghastly.)

AnotherEmma · 21/09/2019 23:19

Nope not lovely. Sorry

NoTheresa · 21/09/2019 23:20

How rude! 😝

Wizzbangpop · 21/09/2019 23:22

My knees are one of my best assets. Anything that cuts off just below them does not look good on me

flashingbeacon · 21/09/2019 23:23

I tried on a grey wool mid length dress. I didn’t even look like the cool guitar playing nuns. I would scare children. Generally I wear what I like and don’t care what I look like but I would have scared children and felt the need to judge people’s sins.

NoTheresa · 21/09/2019 23:23

It’s part of a Richard Allan collaboration with H&M

AnotherEmma · 21/09/2019 23:32

NoTheresa actually I was tempted to say something rude about curtains and "not lovely" was the polite version 😝
But clothes would be no fun if we all liked the same things!

ThighThighOfthigh · 21/09/2019 23:42

I'll pray 🙏 for you Sister.

NoTheresa · 22/09/2019 13:46

Satin skirts are in.

shrugs

Perhaps the curtain commenter is not very fashionable.

dudsville · 22/09/2019 13:52

Midi skirts are perfect for me. I'm 5'7" with terrible knees and they usually fall just below my knees, giving me the appearance of having better legs than I do!

AnotherEmma · 22/09/2019 14:02

No I am absolutely not fashionable. As I said, I think most styles that are in fashion are pretty hideous.

underneaththeash · 22/09/2019 14:11

I'm quite thin with nice ankles, but I'm only 5'4" and I have muscly calves.
Midi skirts look utterly dreadful on me.

TSSDNCOP · 22/09/2019 14:46

They make me look Amish.

1ToughCookie · 22/09/2019 14:54

They make me look like a 12 year old dumpling, but it took me about 12 years to figure that out.

CakeNinja · 22/09/2019 14:58

I work with a 6ft willowy wafty type with a very small waist. She wears satin pleated midi dresses and looks beautiful.
I want to hate her for being able to look great in absolutely everything while I look like an old frump but she’s too lovely Grin
I tried on one of these types of skirt and looked utterly ridiculous. It wasn’t helped by my lack of waist!

JuneSpoon · 22/09/2019 15:04

I have a dress that not only makes me look like a nun, but is also a sludgy brown colour that a monk would wear. I'm ticking all the religious order boxes when I wear it. I would like to give it to charity but I can't imagine who'd want to buy it....

ClaireBeauchampRandallFraser · 22/09/2019 15:32

I like a satin midi, especially the pleated ones, as they suit me. But I suppose they can look “ghastly” if you haven’t got the figure for them.

thesuninsagittarius · 22/09/2019 15:46

I feel your pain! Everything in the shops at the minute seems designed for tall, skinny, flat-chested people; midi-length everything, high necks, shift-style dresses ( no sleeves! the horror! the horror!) or 'boxy' style tops (already look boxy by myself, thanks) Skinny jeans, cropped, loose jeans/trousers. And the colours! mustard, sludge green, horrible patterns. If I wore any of the above I would look like a square, slightly butch maiden aunt who never found the right man...
Thank god am old gimmer and therefore invisible and not obliged to look fashionable anymore. Hurray for hippy skirts, biker boots, plain t-shirts and the return of opaque tights!

AnotherEmma · 22/09/2019 15:47

Yes I think a lot of clothes are designed for very slim women. The main reason I don't like most "fashionable" clothes is that they look awful on me.

managedmis · 22/09/2019 15:48

With heels?

1ToughCookie · 22/09/2019 15:51

Why not? It'd save some one in the religious order from needing to make their own garment.

SudowoodoVoodoo · 22/09/2019 15:51

I'm a short pear shape, and while my muscular calves do a sterling job of running half marathons, midi-skirts rob them of their deserved glory, displaying them as little stumps.

The overall effect on me of a little girl in clothes bought with far too much growing room. Hideous.

Ankle length or above the knees only!

If you can actually look good in a midi-skirt, you'd look good in anything anyway!

FizzyGreenWater · 22/09/2019 16:12

I feel a song coming on.

NUNS IN BEIGE SATIN
NEVER REACHING THE END
OF THESE THICK LEGS, OHHHHH NO NOT MIDI
aah aaaaahhhhhh

etc
