Do I need a padded room or does any of my fellow mumsnettters still have teddies?

Hi all,
I want some views on this.I have a menagerie of soft toys and I love them as I have chronic pain, anxiety and low moods and I like to cuddle up in bed with them and crochet when I am having a bad day with my aforementioned problems. My brother said it is ridiculous that I am an adult that still sleeps with teddies. What are your thoughts?

If you need a padded room OP, then so do I!
I have scented pillow pets in my bed with me, and a large soft toy dog on my sofa.
I wasn't always like this, but have had a lot if trauma to deal with in the last couple of years and these bring me comfort as I live alone, and the scented pillow pets have helped me sleep in that when I wake up in the night I don't get the phantom smell that's linked to trauma in my case.
We do what we have to to get through things, don't worry what anyone else thinks Flowers

I saw a woman in very smart business dress walking down the street in Holborn carrying a quite large very tatty looking cuddly elephant a few weeks ago. I presumed she must have a child and it belonged to them but imagine if she didn't and it was hers and she just went everywhere with it, like Aloysius and Sebastian in Brideshead Revisted. Imagine if we all did this. I would love it! I could take Bernard the panda to work with me.

I had millions as a child and to me they were "alive".
Now mid thirties & a select few still in childhood home.
But my special Ted lives on my bedside table. Think i shall promote him to cuddling in bed tonight Smile

Yes I cuddle him now I live alone and life isn't easy at the minute. I don't have a person to cuddle

Northernsoullover · 11/09/2019 07:08

I have several. I don't cuddle them to sleep but they are there by my bed.

I sleep with “Bear” every night, my daughter has my childhood teddy, but he’s semi retired, as he’s a bit fragile

Noseynails · 11/09/2019 12:06

I have on large teddy and two small ones.

KurriKurri · 11/09/2019 12:38

I have several - and now my children are grown up and I have no one to knit for, the Teddies have jumpers knitted for them. (I do have a dog - but he's not a fan of wearing jumpers Grin)
I don't care if anyone thinks I'm odd,

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 11/09/2019 12:41

I have two!

Panda, I’ve had him since birth.
Teddy, dh got him for me on our second date.

Both side on my bedside table 😍😍

Cloudyyy · 11/09/2019 18:14

Oh wow! My daughter’s nursery are insisting she detaches from sleeping with her beloved teddy now because apparently she’s too old for a bear! She’s only just two years old. I should show them this thread!

GlasshouseStoneThrower · 11/09/2019 18:19

I've got my teddy, had her since I was 3. She's not in the bed every night but sometimes I need a comfort level only she can provide. She's imbued with years of memories me turning to her for comfort, right back to my parents tucking me up with her when I was very little. Sometimes nothing else hits the spot!

darkriver19886 · 11/09/2019 18:28

@Getoffmylilo I have admitted I do get funny looks when I am stood at the edge of the road waiting for my friend to pick me up after therapy. Snowy cant quiet fit in my bag.

inthekitchensink · 11/09/2019 18:43

Cuddly fish. Comes on holiday with me. DD keeps trying to get her filthy toddler paws on it. Jog on love, it’s mine.

fanniboz · 11/09/2019 23:03

Oh god yeah, I've got my beloved teddies I've had since I was a toddler/very young child. I've had to move them off my bed and up onto a chest of drawers to protect them from the puppy and I definitely miss cuddling them at night - farty snoring dog isn't quite the same Grin

BelgianWhistles · 11/09/2019 23:30

I have loads and loads and loads. My problem is that once I have them, I can never get rid of them. I’d feel too guilty!

I have five that share my bed Blush

fourquenelles · 11/09/2019 23:37

I will be 64 next week will you still need me? Will you still feed me? and have a shelf in my bedroom where my nearly 64 year old and nearly 63 year old bears sit alongside my late DH's sawdust stuffed bear who must be 67.

Every night I sleep with my three live teddy bear galgo dogs so best of all worlds.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 12/09/2019 00:37

This has been a lovely thread. I had a great sleep last night with Ted so now he will join me every night Smile unless i have special company hehe

SunshineAngel · 12/09/2019 00:49

From someone who also lives with anxiety - do whatever the hell you can to calm it down. If it helps, do it. I find the gnaw of anxiety utter soul destroying at times, and will definitely do whatever I can to make it go away. If teddies do that for you, great. For me, it's keeping my mind busy with things like jigsaw puzzles and word puzzles.

HistoriaTrixie · 12/09/2019 00:50

I don't have a teddy, but I do have a 13" Opus penguin/puffin (from the Bloom County comic strip. Had it since I was sixteen back in 1988. Opus follows me everywhere - he's even been to Hong Kong!

dayslikethese1 · 12/09/2019 08:28

cloudy that's so sad.

OP I think your DB is just jelly that he doesn't have his own bear Grin

darkriver19886 · 12/09/2019 10:13

I remembered I wrote a blog post about this. :) I won't share a link but I will share this new York times article that talks about it. 28% of people admit to sleeping with a stuffed teddy :)
