Do I need a padded room or does any of my fellow mumsnettters still have teddies?

Hi all,
I want some views on this.I have a menagerie of soft toys and I love them as I have chronic pain, anxiety and low moods and I like to cuddle up in bed with them and crochet when I am having a bad day with my aforementioned problems. My brother said it is ridiculous that I am an adult that still sleeps with teddies. What are your thoughts?

Not only do I still have them - I actually bought myself a new one yesterday! Blush I have a couple of childhood favourites, some favourites from when DS was a baby, and a small menagerie of sloths and hares that I've acquired over the past few years. Also a large Moomin but he is currently residing in DS's room.

happytoday73 · 10/09/2019 19:24

No I don't. Haven't since a child... But that's just me.
Everyone's different and you should do what makes you happy. Your brother should stick his nose out.

Bunnylady53 · 10/09/2019 19:25

I don’t sleep with them but I have loads. DH can’t really understand but tolerates it! My oldest ted is one I was given when I was 3 weeks old.

I sleep with a cuddly crocodile every night, he is 8yr old dd’s but I love him Grin I’m 41.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 10/09/2019 19:27

Yep - I still sleep with my childhood teddy! He was my mum's before me so pretty old. And I have other childhood soft toys safe in a cupboard. Nothing wrong with it!

Thegracefuloctopus · 10/09/2019 19:29

My dh tucks my up in all mine when my chronic pain is bad. I love them. He makes them talk. He bought me a new one for my birthday. I love them and can't sleep without them. Your brothers a dick!

Soola · 10/09/2019 19:31

I have a Golly, a Trumpy Bear and a couple of hand made Greyhound soft toys and they reside in a spare bedroom where I often have a nap and they are lovely.

Op, you enjoy your cuddles and ignore your brother.

wonkylegs · 10/09/2019 19:32

My childhood doggy soft toy sits on our bed head along with a soft toy badger bought as an in family joke

If you like them, so what, it's not harming anybody and if they provide comfort it's a lot better than some of the more 'acceptable' emotional/physical crutches people use - alcohol/ cigarettes/ drugs

Zoflorabore · 10/09/2019 19:33

Ps I have chronic pain too ( fibromyalgia ) and it definitely helps.

Sallycanwait1 · 10/09/2019 19:35

I was actually going to post my own thread to ask if it's weird that I have so many teddies.

I use mine for decor though I don't cuddle them. I've got one at the top. Of the stairs, and three in the bedroom. Their all classic teddies.

BlueCornsihPixie · 10/09/2019 19:36

I still have my childhood teddy and also several others, I love teddies. They are cute and soft, what's not to like? Cuddling a teddy in front of the tv is no different really to a cushion or a blanket, or a hot water bottle it's just animal shaped.

Life is short, do what makes you happy. If they bring you comfort why would you purposefully not cuddle a teddy just because your DB thinks so?

There's lots of things people do that I don't personally enjoy, I find it sad when other people can't understand why something they don't like might bring someone else joy. It's just a bit of a depressing way to live tbh, your brother needs to let go a bit

Steamfan · 10/09/2019 19:39

Little Bear comes to bed every night with me, and on holiday. He was given to me 30 years ago when I was going through a horrible time, and he was a life saver. Take no notice of your brother

Zoflorabore · 10/09/2019 19:49

I have officially lost the plot Blush

Meet Oscar, he even has his own “bed”

Do I need a padded room or does any of my fellow mumsnettters still have teddies?
Ginger1982 · 10/09/2019 20:19

I have Ted who I've had since I was 13. He sleeps with me every night. If we go on holiday or something I really miss him! Thankfully DH is very understanding!

PeterthePainter · 10/09/2019 20:22

Your brother is a twat.
HTH.

MyMushroomsInATimeSlip · 10/09/2019 20:27

I will be going to bed with my teddy bear later. He has a name too Smile

ChikiTIKI · 10/09/2019 20:40

My arms feel wrong if I don't cuddle my teddy every night. I don't know what to do with them otherwise. My husband bought it for me on one of our first dates nearly 13 years ago.

I still have loads of other soft toys but gave them to my DD :)

She has shown interest in my bear but he is mine lol.

Funnily enough my nearly 2 year old DD loves teddies but gets upset if you suggest she takes one to bed. She will throw them out the cot!

Namechange170518 · 10/09/2019 20:46

I still have a couple of my childhood soft toys, but I've never been a 'cuddler'. My mum says I would play with them then chuck them on the floor before I went to bed. I like my personal space!

carsleyladiessociety · 10/09/2019 20:51

I still have a teddy. Well 2 of them to be precise. And yeah, DH still tucks me up in bed with them when I am having a bad pain day.
The kids teddies also have pride of place in my bed during the day and I might just have a sneaky cuddle if I have a nap

Your DB can go forth and multiply IMO

AlexaAmbidextra · 10/09/2019 20:54

I have an original Paddington Bear from the 1970s. He stands in a corner of my guest bedroom.

LittleSweet · 10/09/2019 20:57

I have a teddy from childhood but he's too fragile. So I have another teddy and a special blanket. I'm 46. Your brother is ridiculous not to have a teddy. What's wrong with him?Grin

TheRLodger · 10/09/2019 20:58

I cuddle up to my real life teddy bear dog but I have several soft toys in my room still yanbu. I also still have several bin liners of soft toys in the attic I just can’t bear (excuse the pun) to throw them away. YADNBU

Biancadelrioisback · 10/09/2019 20:59

DH and I both sleep with our teddies. DH is quite fine without his and often his goes on adventures under the bed for a week or two. Mine stays with me every night and I apologise if she falls out of bed during the night. We've both had them since we were toddlers so they aren't going anywhere.
DS is 2 and has 5 that he has to sleep with, so when he comes into bed with us it's a very, very full bed.

Nononononono33 · 10/09/2019 21:01

I have teddies. They may or may not have their own Twitter accounts...

LittleSweet · 10/09/2019 21:01

This probably is weird but my other teddies have to cuddle and be able to see the room. My dcs teddies has to see out. But now they're older they have their teddies stuffed in fabric laundry baskets and knowing that they can't see out is upsetting to me. Even though they're not alive. I have crazy empathy.Blush
