I have been doing this for 9 months and I love it. However, WFH can get very lonely!

Anyone else?

It's nice to have some balance to the discussion. I know the experience isn't the same for everyone.

To reply to a pp - for me, if the student doesn't show up, I will still be paid the same amount.

I understand the concerns though. Sometimes I feel like I should be in an "office job" or something, however, I do make more money doing this. If you need to work from home/ work around another job then I think it's worth considering.

Is it something I want to do forever? Probably not. At the moment though, I need the flexibility to be able to work 7 hours one week vs 45 the next and not be penalised for it. I also book classes the night before. I'd say that's the main appeal for me.

Wallywobbles · 18/09/2019 18:51

Hi @Coco6 please could you let me know your agency too. Thanks

Wallywobbles · 18/09/2019 18:54

@SunshineAngel I'd be very interested in your lady's contact details if possible please.

Wallywobbles · 18/09/2019 18:55

@BookWitch I'm also in France and have been a full time EFL teacher but since moving it's s a bit more complicated. Can I ask which agency you work through please.

Wallywobbles · 18/09/2019 19:00

@Hatha I'd be very interested to have any details. 20+ years of ESL teaching. Thanks

Elllicam · 18/09/2019 19:02

Could I please have a pm too? I’m just looking for some extra hours.

EssentialHummus · 18/09/2019 19:11

OP, you’re really fine to name the company here. No one’s going to accuse you of advertising, and it’ll save you the hundreds of PMs!

Rafij · 18/09/2019 19:22

It's itutorgroup
(not the op)

Wassat · 18/09/2019 20:27

Hi I'm sorry, I know you have been inundated but please would you let me know the name of the company? I have been an assistant esol teacher for the last year but would love to work at home. Thank you so much Smile

Atalune · 18/09/2019 22:20

itutor group.

I had a short interview and got offered a job. It’s very very easy. I think it’s a bit of a numbers game, they employ boards of people and lots leave. I think actually getting regular work with busy classes will be hard.

frozentree · 19/09/2019 08:53

@Coco6 @Hatha could you both pm me some more info please?
ESL teacher for 10 years but never taught online!

Coco6 · 19/09/2019 13:34

I think it's one of those things you just have to try out for yourself tbh. They're letting a lot of people go at the moment due to not having a degree - a new law in China I think.

OP posts:
tobee · 19/09/2019 16:44

Can I ask how you proved you had the qualifications? I have no idea where my degree certificate and don't think I've had to prove it to an employer before. Hopefully I could dig it out if necessary! Grin

Coco6 · 19/09/2019 17:15

I had to scan them a copy of my degree and my TEFL cert.

Thanks for the links x

tobee · 19/09/2019 23:14

Just googled and it looks like I can get a replacement for my degree certificate even though my polytechnic is now amalgamated and called something else, in case anyone else in same boat!

cardamoncoffee · 20/09/2019 07:31

I'm thinking of doing this even for a few hours per week. I currently work 0.3 as I'm a carer, but could definitely squeeze this in. I looked closely into iTutor and I was really disappointed by the standard of teaching. There are mock lessons on Youtube and despite their claims of only employing native speakers these show that this is definitely not the case. The children's understanding also seemed very poor and I wondered if they were ploughing through lessons regardless of level/understanding?
