I have been doing this for 9 months and I love it. However, WFH can get very lonely!

Anyone else?

Aya thank you! I was going to make a list, however, I've only worked for one company so was unsure about the legitimacy of the others.

@Coco6

Could you send me more info. My h has left me and I'm trying to find something to do work wise, my dd has asd (adult though) so work from home is perfect. Thanks

walkingwoods · 10/09/2019 19:53

Could you also pm me the details for your company please?

I've been looking at doing this for a while but am baffled over which course to sign up for.

Thank you

Nyancat · 10/09/2019 19:58

Op could you pm me the agency you work through please. Thanks

jacksparrowsbigbadboat · 10/09/2019 20:08

I also would be interested to find out more thanks!

Heartofglass12345 · 10/09/2019 20:54

I would love details of your company if you don't mind Smile

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER O Levels were before my time Wink but I had an A in GCSE French and a C at a level.

I always wanted to do English and thought about doing teaching, I ended up doing nursing but I have a degree in that! I gave that up a couple of years ago after I had my second son as the shifts just weren't suited to kids school hours. Something I could fit around them would be great!

TEACHER4U · 11/09/2019 07:55

Please tell me how to reach you to learn about the company. I have been a master TEFL teacher for two years. I feel overwhelmed by trying to get everything right like lighting. I would love to work for a company that has a good reputation and is helpful.

Diane2019 · 11/09/2019 08:13

I'd love more information if possible.. I'm doing that now but would love to do from home.. Would it be possible to get more info from you?? Thank you

Oooh!!! I’m doing my tefl at present but really need to earn now!! Can I teach whilst doing the tefl?

Ladyhales · 11/09/2019 11:52

Coco6
Can you pm me with details of who you work for please!!! I’m new on here and can’t work out how to pm xxxxxx

semoneseavers89 · 11/09/2019 13:48

Yes!! I teach English online with multiple companies! :) Qkids and Education First are my favorites and ones I recommend the most ❤️ I love working from home, helping our family finances and caring for my daughter. I understand the loneliness factor at times. I’m apart of mom groups on Facebook (there are so many) and community with our church. This site seems like a great resource.

Heartofglass12345 · 11/09/2019 14:26

@semoneseavers89
Do you do set hours each week?

Coco6 · 11/09/2019 17:52

Sem that sounds great!

Cambly is quite good too, as something on the side.

Atalune · 13/09/2019 21:32

Had my interview today @Coco6. It was quick and easy!

Coco6 · 13/09/2019 22:20

@Atalune oh wow that's brilliant! Good luck! Hopefully you had the same interviewer as me, we're still in touch now - she helps me with everything 🤣🤣

Please could I also have details? I am an overworked teacher and would love a get out! Do you need a fancy computer? Thanks

HeadlessGummyBears · 14/09/2019 06:25

@Aya611 Thanks for the extensive list Flowers

@semoneseavers89 and @Coco6 - Can you please share more details? I’d love the flexibility of working from home. I’ve taught EFL for a number of years but I love the idea of not having commute every single day.

TheCanterburyWhales · 14/09/2019 06:48

£18 an hour sounds a lot different from what most of the ones listed above pay so it would certainly be useful for wannabe online teachers to know the name of it.

Like a few others on this thread I've been an EFL/EAP teacher for years, have a DELTA qualification and EFL management and recruitment experience.

Online work -some will accept you with no qualifications whatsoever, sadly it's a virtually unregulated industry, though reputable organisations will insist on one.
Read all the reviews on things like Glassdoor and MME as a lot of the companies (especially the China based ones) get very poor ones.
And obviously never fork out for anyone's own course (quite a lot of them run their own online courses, you might pay peanuts for it, but it's worth diddly) Others ask you to do a lengthy probation period, then you may or may not get the hours. Some offer a wage per hour, then you discover a lesson is 30 minutes, so you're planning twice as long. Avoid any company which has you simply reading from a script.

Anybody serious about getting into it can find ads through the trade websites like tefl.com, teflnet etc.

The best companies are going to be the well established brands like EF who are moving into online platforms as well. You'll get a proper contract and proper money. Those ones will want to see a qualification though.

YouJustDoYou · 14/09/2019 06:54

Oh gosh, I wanted to do this but was put off by the user reviews of some of the companies! How they don;t get paid much, or because they get fired due to poor student reviews of the them? I would love to do it though, it would be IDEAl for me, but I'm so nervous about how on earth would I teach - it sounds like, as long as you get the tefl etc, they provide you with the lesson plan though so you don't have to format stuff yourself?

YouJustDoYou · 14/09/2019 06:55

Wow @Aya611, thank you for that!

Coco6 · 14/09/2019 09:35

Yeah, there are some not so great reviews online, however, my experience has been brilliant. It's allowed me to do something I love while being at home too. I was slightly sceptical when I read them but I'm so glad I tried it out for myself.

To the pp who asked - yes, they provide the lesson plans. You can extend and add in your own stuff too, it's very flexible.

Can anyone tell me a bit more about Cambly? I don't really want to commit to a regular slot and have other freelancing on the go, but wouldn't mind something that I can do off-the-cuff.

I am an experienced teacher, although not TEFL.
