About your use of handbags

Do you have one handbag that you use all the time or do you use a different handbag every day to match your outfit?

If the latter do you transfer everything from bag A to bag B every morning or do you keep duplicates of most things like lip balm tissues and just move your wallet/key/phone from bag to bag? Or do people use those handbag inners I've heard about and just pull them out and stick it in the next bag but wasn't sure how that would work if bags are different shapes/sizes.

Normally carry a huge tote around but swapped for a smaller bag when I went away and enjoying not having such a weight on my shoulder. But... I can't fit my umbrella or emergency glasses in there.

What do you keep in your handbag on an everyday basis?

Just general handbag nosiness... Grin

I treated myself to an expensive handbag this year, so I tend to use this one all the time.

I have a small makeup bag with a few essentials in it, pain killers, pen, headphones and small note pad, then my keys, purse and phone get put in there when I go out

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 02/09/2019 21:04

I love handbags! I was treated to a lovely one earlier this year and I tend to use that. But it's a bit too expensive to use where I know it could be damaged so I tend to swop it for other ones then.
I use my main handbag daily and then have another one for my laptop/work stuff, and then if I go out I may just take a smaller bag or a clutch!
I've recently packed my handbags as we're hoping to move house and was a bit Blushat the amount of them!

picklemepopcorn · 02/09/2019 21:07

I have all the same quandaries as you, OP. I've several handbags that I like the idea of rotating, but really it turns out to be almost seasonal. I carry a bigger bag when we are on day trips and holidays, so tend to use that over holiday season. Then round about now I sort it out and downsize into an autumn handbag. I may swap again at Christmas...

I tend to carry handcream, keys, card tin, coin purse, lipstick, reading glasses, eye drops.

For a night out, I take out things to fit into a clutch.

I swap and change bags depending on what I'm doing and how I'm getting places. I walk and cycle a lot so a comfortable bag is a must. I keep things in smaller purses to swap over keeping the same sorts of things together in those small purses. Like my keys are in my purse with my money as I'm likely to use those things together. Painkillers, tissues, anti bac gel, nail file those sorts of things in a purse. Small make up pouch, sunglasses case and then whatever else.

AcrossthePond55 · 02/09/2019 21:23

I'm a handbag-whore and have quite a few tons of them. I have about 5 that are more frequently used for everyday, but I do change handbags for 'occasions' or if I feel like being 'matchy matchy' with a particular outfit.

I swap items in and out of the bags depending on the bag size and what I'm doing whilst carrying it. More stuff for day/travel, less stuff for evening bags.

That being said, I buy good quality designer bags because they are well made and tend to be more 'classic' so they don't go out of style.

The great thing about handbags is that no matter if you gain or lose weight, they always 'fit'.

notso · 02/09/2019 21:24

My bag buying cycle had been the same since I was in school and goes as follows.
Buy a nice new bag, I've never paid more than £30 for one.
Start off being organised,
Slowly fill handbag with receipts, wrappers, letters from school and assorted crap, a pen usually leaks at some point.
Something breaks on the handbag or it gets badly scuffed etc.
Hate handbag.
Buy new handbag.
Repeat.

dementedma · 02/09/2019 21:27

I've never understood handbags and dont own any. On work days, stuff is in my squashy briefcase/satchel. All other times I have a backpack or pockets.
I borrow a clutch/evening bag when the need arises

EmmiJay · 02/09/2019 21:28

OP you sound like my mum lol. She transfers all her items from one bag into another bag of the same style but different colour the next day. I have my beloved black snd gold Moschino quilted shoulder bag that I have had for four yrs. Love it to pieces and only take it when me and DD will be out for a while (it fits her crisps and fruit shoots perfectly😑). Other than that I'm a zippy purse and keys in hand mum. Don't like too much load.

MaggietheHorseThief · 02/09/2019 21:29

I have one black bag that I use 90% of the time then a few others which I swap into from time to time depending on outfit choice. When I swap I tend to just move essentials (purse, phone, keys) over and leave the archaeological detritus of receipts, lipsticks, spare sunglasses, perfume, pens, mints, tampons etc in my main bag.

EggysMom · 02/09/2019 21:32

I have one active handbag, used every day. I have a small handbag used for the very rare night out, I transfer phone / purse / keys into that small handbag and then transfer back the next day.

I could not be doing with the faff of moving entire handbag contents from one bag to another, simply to match my outfit for the day. I end up choosing handbags that contrast, rather than match; my current bag is a Tula in red/burgundy colour.

Floralnomad · 02/09/2019 21:33

I currently have 2 handbags that I use , a largish Desiguel and a cross body medium Radley . I keep the same junk in both - tissues , tampax , pens , hand sanitiser , hand cream , lip balm etc and only need to swap my purse , sunglasses etc on a daily basis .

PinkOboe · 02/09/2019 21:33

I have a few expensive ones that I use day in day out. I used my bayswater every day for six years, still looks great. I’m using a PS1 at the moment, again daily use for 5 or so years without a break. We do take a rucksack if we’re going to the beach

CocoLoco87 · 02/09/2019 21:33

I have a clear small pouch that came in a set of washbag from Boots. It has medication, hand cream, lip balm, grips and spare bobbles in it. The pouch and my purse get transferred from handbag to babybag to gym bag etc. If I'm going out out then I'll use a smaller bag and I downsize my 'necessary items' into actual necessary items.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/09/2019 21:38

I have a few handbags on rotation, but I clear each one out at the end of the day and lay out the stuff on my dresser, handbag goes away, repack next day

It sounds slightly bonkers but I used to date a military guy who was all about laying stuff out and I picked it up from there!

Rainbowknickers · 02/09/2019 21:39

I have 3 bags-use 1
(And my work bag for my uniform and lunch)
I just can’t be bothered chopping and changing bags all the time
I’m such a lazy cow

Miljah · 02/09/2019 23:28

I'm 56 and getting better at handbags.

I'm like the Queen and never carry cash (DH is usually with me and has the wallet!). But I've gone decades with, at best, a backpack, at worst, pockets. I never walk away from a backpack but constantly forget a handbag over the back of a chair 🙄

PanamaPattie · 02/09/2019 23:54

I have over 100 handbags. I rotate them according to my mood.

Picklypickles · 02/09/2019 23:58

I've had the same handbag for about 15/20 years now, its quite unique and I absolutely adore it! I do have other handbags and have backpacks of varying sizes for walks and days out etc.

which1 · 03/09/2019 00:13

Panama

Gosh that is a lot.

Do you have a special closet for them or something?

Do you collect designer handbags or just whatever takes your fancy be it Chanel or River Island?

which1 · 03/09/2019 00:14

Which are your favourites out of your 100 if you don't mind me asking?

OP posts:
supadupapupascupa · 03/09/2019 00:24

I have my main one, but everything in it is in a black inner bag. Mainly to protect the bag. If I switch to another bag I just take out the inner and transfer it. I switch occasionally, day trips I use a backpack, evenings use clutches and take a bare minimum out.

managedmis · 03/09/2019 00:30

I've got a work handbag that has the extras like spare tights, make up, etc in.

My weekend bags are a rucksack / wrap around hands free thing I use with the kids then a small shoulder bag if I go out alone and don't need snacks / spare clothes for the kids etc.

I just transfer my purse, keys and phone to whichever bag I'm using.

Nat6999 · 03/09/2019 00:36

I have hundreds of handbags & up to a couple of years ago I used to chop & change which bag I used but over the last couple of years I have started to struggle with my mobility & now only use a cross body bag so I have both my hands free. I now use a Radley cross body bag that only has room for my phone, ecig, keys & purse, that way it doesn't get too heavy for me.

RocketRacoonsFurryBalls · 03/09/2019 00:48

I am a bag lady. I come laden.

I have a massive Kipling thing that I love. It holds:
Keys
Purse
Phone
Glasses
Pencil case containing lip balm, hand cream, mirror, tweezers (never know when beard will happen), pens
Tissues
Wet wipes
Snacks
Water
Sunnies
Xylitol mints
Notebook
Diary
Various pills/meds
Charger
Panty liners
Spare pants!!!

Plus tote-shopper thingy containing other tote-shopper thingies, cardigan, scarf etc.

The bezzie tells me I’m “eccentric”.

RocketRacoonsFurryBalls · 03/09/2019 00:49

I sometimes try to use a smaller bag and carry less, but I find that more stressful.
