Does anyone remember the BBC programme Child of Our Time? 19 year old Parys, son of Alison Lapper, has died :( I feel like I watched him grow up on the show, it is really sad.

I saw that this morning. That's so sad.

I loved that show, and they had such a strong bond. I am heartbroken for her.

That is so sad.

I always remember on Child of our Time when they were at a neighbours house in their garden and the kids all started having a water fight. Some of the parents didn't want their dc to join in and Alison was genuinely bewildered as to why people would want to stop their children from having spontaneous and wholesome fun like that. Just in case they got wet.

It was just a small thing I only saw it once and might not even have remembered it properly but it changed the way I felt and how I behaved in similar situations.

This is awful news, that's so very sad.

carrotfaery · 27/08/2019 14:48

Terribly sad news. I've loved watching child of our time since it began, always remember the amazing bond they had, now having my own DS with that same close bond it brings me to tears to imagine what she's going through. Sad

GhostsToMonsoon · 27/08/2019 14:49

That's shocking news and so sad.

UrsulaPandress · 27/08/2019 14:50

Very sad.

TheGlaikitRambler · 27/08/2019 15:15

It's a shame the show had it's funding pulled, I'd have liked to have seen how they got on in their older teens. My DC is the exact same age as these children.

Oh my god yes I remember them I watched them all. This is awful! Wonder how he died. So awful

LynetteScavo · 27/08/2019 15:46

That is so sad. Sad

LynetteScavo · 27/08/2019 15:47

I sometimes wonder about the children. I was so interested in how they would turn out.

Why was the funding pulled?

coffeeeandtv · 27/08/2019 16:10

I saw this story in the newspaper this morning and I would like to send my condolences to Pary's family. It was a fantastic show and I always thought Alison came across as a very caring parent.

TheGlaikitRambler · 27/08/2019 16:15

Not sure why the funding was pulled, but I remember Sir Robert Winston was furious about it.

never saw the programme. but omg how sad.

TeaForTara · 27/08/2019 16:21

"Please take away from this a realisation that you are not alone, that you can talk and not to hold things within. Whatever it is, there is help."

This wording (from the mother's fiance) makes it sound like suicide.

Trumpton · 27/08/2019 16:22

Oh such sad news . My heart goes out to her and anyone who has lost a child .

Rachelover40 · 27/08/2019 16:23

Very sad indeed though I never saw the programme. I'll try and find it. It's a tragedy.

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 27/08/2019 16:23

Such sad news, I remember Parys and his mum from the programme.

Thoughts with his mum.

purpleme12 · 27/08/2019 16:23

:-(

Entschuldigung · 27/08/2019 16:24

Gosh that's so sad. I always remember them showing his mum crossing the road with him when he was a toddler. She kept him safe just by talking to him, it was so impressive. I was only telling my daughter about this the other day.

PancakeAndKeith · 27/08/2019 16:24

How dreadful. I remember his mum so well.
