I've just eaten a Vesta chow mein

It was awful yet delicious. Ok maybe not delicious, but it was a bowl full of one of my rare fluffy childhood memories.

Any other suggestions for a nostalgic lunch or dinner?

I'm currently sitting eating my second pack of ringos, not even bothered with my sandwich, the multipack packs are only 61 cals though. I got them in Asda.

Cheese hamwiches and turkey drummers were my favourites.

I need tinned Chicken supreme, diced chicken in white sauce with bits of mushroom. I used to have it on toast as a student 79-81

Toomanycats99 · 15/08/2019 14:17

I used to make findus crispy pancake sandwiches.

2 slices white plastic bread
2 mince beef pancakes
1 cheese
Blob of tomatoe sauce

Lovely!

AnybodyWantAChip · 15/08/2019 14:50

My mum was too tight to buy angel delight - we had 'instant whip'.

Also remember eating sterilised cream from tins - loved it!!!

When did you buy it?

Many many years ago, completely broke, we went on holiday. To Ibiza. Self-catering. We actually took half a dozen vestas with us so we could spend all our money on booze.

20viona · 15/08/2019 15:02

Vesta paella is another classic!

MyCatHatesEverybody · 15/08/2019 15:03

Earlier this week flavabobble. Vestas in Ibiza sounds awesome.

Gammon & pineapple rings.

sueelleker · 15/08/2019 15:30

The Vesta paella isn't the same; they took out the dried chicken and whatever they used to colour it yellow. It's now off-white, and has almost no taste.

MelanieFrontage · 15/08/2019 15:30

Findus cheese crispy pancakes were the best tea ever!

madmumofteens · 15/08/2019 17:38

Just remembered another delicacy dining out and having Chicken Maryland at the Chinese 😂

Camomila · 15/08/2019 17:48

I've just googled the crispy pancakes...they still sell them in Asda but they don't look as appetising as an adult.

Not a meal as such but as a DC I used to like dipping lady finger biscuits into yoghurt as my afternoon snack.

AdaColeman · 15/08/2019 17:51

You need half a grapefruit sprinkled with brown sugar and grilled till it bubbles, add a maraschino cherry for perfection!
Followed by a fish finger sandwich with salad cream.

reefedsail · 15/08/2019 17:57

We have Angel Delight at school (primary school teacher) AND it has 100s & 1000s on it! Our school cook is a genius. Butterscotch is the best.

Bravelurker · 15/08/2019 18:01

Out of all the nostalgia meals, fray bentos is the worst thing to ever be revisited - the slimy pastry 🤮. The only thing I remember about those vesta currys was picking out the raisins.

Hidingtonothing · 15/08/2019 18:05

If anyone finds any of the Vesta beef risotto's anywhere can you please let me know where, disgusting but lovely at the same time Grin

MrsMozartMkII · 15/08/2019 18:11

I've actually bought a couple of Fray Bentos pies... BlushConfused DH has a broken knee and can't do any cooking, I've had a bug and not known from one day to the next what I'll be up to doing < gets her excuses in early > I thought something as simple and easy as a FB pie and frozen veg would suffice if the need arose.

I'll get m'hat Grin

Charley50 · 15/08/2019 18:16

Ooh I want one now!

tapdancingmum · 15/08/2019 18:17

You can now buy ready made angel delight and the £shop or the one that's just over a £ do a tub of it like milkshake mix.

My DH looks longily at the Fray Bentos pies but I always refuse as we had one a couple.of years ago and it was minging. He still maintains he liked it.

WarmSausageTea · 15/08/2019 18:19

Primula cheese spread (with prawns if DM was feeling rakish) on Jacobs cream crackers. The taste of Sunday evening.

OccidentalPurist · 15/08/2019 18:25

We bought some Angel Delight a while back having told the DCs it was kids' favourite desert in the 70s.

I don't know if it's changed or my taste has changed now but it was absolutely vile unfortunately and none of us could finish it! So much salt!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 15/08/2019 18:27

I remember when I was little that Vesta seemed so glamorous and exotic! Love Angel Delight must be butterscotch though, I’m not alone in my appreciation Simon Cowell loves Angel Delight as well! I was gutted when they stopped makingToast Toppers, bring them back Heinz. Do they still make treacle sponge and golden syrup in a tin? God I loved that!
