It was awful yet delicious. Ok maybe not delicious, but it was a bowl full of one of my rare fluffy childhood memories.

Any other suggestions for a nostalgic lunch or dinner?

What a good in-vesta-ment!

Prawn cocktail crisps next?

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 15/08/2019 13:02

Corned beef hash with a fried egg 😋

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/08/2019 13:04

Blimey what a blast from the past.
I used to have them back in the 70s with my mum when my dad was working away.

MyCatHatesEverybody · 15/08/2019 13:11

Kalim8 Grin

I'm sitting here feeling kind of dirty and in need of angel delight. I wonder if it's the same as it used to be?

In about 1970 I used to go round to my friend's on Saturday and we would hang out and make a Vesta meal. Such nostalgia! It paved the way for cooking and eating Chinese and Indian food from scratch.

madmumofteens · 15/08/2019 13:17

Oh fray bentos steak pie in a tin haven't had one in years then angel delight topped with dream topping for pudding 😋

hellenbackagen · 15/08/2019 13:18

I used to love them and followed the Vesta down with a tin of ambrosia rice pudding ...!

MyCatHatesEverybody · 15/08/2019 13:25

madmum DH was vegetarian for 20 years and really missed that soggy yet crispy fray bentos pastry...now he eats meat again and they've just brought out a veggie version! He was most put out at their timing Grin

Are you ok OP? I think you should go and get your stomach pumped just in case.

Ronsters · 15/08/2019 13:32

Those Goblin meat pie/puddings in the small tins. They sometimes have them in the pound shops.
Served with some Smash.
Maybe a bit of Arctic Roll to follow.

Loyaultemelie · 15/08/2019 13:33

All these replies are spectacularly missing the point, where was this piece of nostalgia comfort food bought???

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/08/2019 13:37

I often reminisce about Findus crispy pancakes, but, rather like my first boyfriend, I imagine the rose tinted memory is better than revisiting the real thing would be Grin.

Jemima232 · 15/08/2019 13:37

You need a tin of faggots in gravy OP.

Sooverthemill · 15/08/2019 13:38

Angel delight is wonderful! And the first 'meal' I ever cooked my first boyfriend was a Vesta curry ( it was 1974)

MyCatHatesEverybody · 15/08/2019 13:40

@Loyaultemelie it was purchased at Safeway Morrisons

HollowTalk · 15/08/2019 13:42

Did it have the miraculous crispy noodles on top?

Reconstituted beef - I loved it!

Loyaultemelie · 15/08/2019 13:42

@MyCatHatesEverybody bugger I am in NI so will have to wait until September and get my friend to fill up his boot when he's coming over Grin

KUGA · 15/08/2019 13:46

You cant beat a bit of nostalgia. I used to love the Vesta products, Probably because it was something different from the norm. I also go back to where I used to live. It brings back wonderful memories and its lovely to share it with my husband.
The bast and funniest one was showing him the roof I climbed on and promptly fell through and had to climb up the drainpipe to get out.
Thankfully I grew out of the tomboy thing.

Deathraystare · 15/08/2019 13:47

WoW. I was talking about the Vesta meals the other day. Haven't seen them for years but think I may have spotted them in Poundland???

madmumofteens · 15/08/2019 13:48

Crispy pancake rolls they got so hot burned the roof of your mouth off 😂

MyCatHatesEverybody · 15/08/2019 13:49

@hollowtalk I'd have refused to buy it if it didn't have the crispy noodles - it's what always gave chow mein the edge over their curry! Vesta chicken supreme was the absolute best though, I wish they'd bring it back.

Deathraystare · 15/08/2019 14:06

Oh I loved the cheese pancake rolls!

Iwantacookie · 15/08/2019 14:09

I read vespa (as in the mopeds) and wondered where you had been for dinner Grin

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 15/08/2019 14:10

I have a small stash of Vesta beef curry. Lush! I was gutted when they stopped making the chicken one, and the risotto. Glorious packety filth food.
