N/C because in the unlikely event anybody knows me here this is very outing, but naice ham, cheeky holiday husband and wife etc.
I am putting together a mix CD for my friend’s daughter’s second birthday- songs that hopefully she’ll enjoy dancing around to when she’s little and grow to love when she’s older.
I’m looking for simple, cheery, clean(ish) classics. So far I’ve got:
Mr Blue Sky by ELO
Starfish and Coffee by Prince
Jump In Line by Harry Belafonte
Octopus’ Garden by The Beatles
Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley
It’s Oh So Quiet by Björk
Firecracker by Yellow Magic Orchestra

Would really appreciate any suggestions by clever Mumsnetters as to some lovely pop ditties to include.

Any suggestions for female artists particularly welcome. I haven’t come across much with the playful vibe I’m hoping for.

Pogmella · 25/07/2019 19:32

Reet Petite and She’s so Lovely

ScreamingValenta · 25/07/2019 19:32

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen (your friend's 2 year old probably won't understand the lyrics, but nor do I and I'm in my 40s Grin )

Pogmella · 25/07/2019 19:33

Oh- Shake It Off is fun and by a laydee!

Eatsshoootsandleaves · 25/07/2019 19:33

Reach (S club)

MyFlabberIsAghast · 25/07/2019 19:34

It's a bit cheesy but I love Count On Me by Bruno Mars

Is Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield clean enough?

I'm wracking my brains for a suitable Kate Bush song if you're after female artists.

Baby I Don't Care by Transvision Vamp is a great stompy dance song with a female vocalist

Eatsshoootsandleaves · 25/07/2019 19:34

Roar (Katy Perry)

Toooldtobearsed2 · 25/07/2019 19:34

Oh God, when I say 'mine', I mean my children! When they were very young, not me!

Nooooo. Not me. I get going to 'Tiger Feet' and other such classy numbers

ScreamingValenta · 25/07/2019 19:34

If you don't mind veering into the territory of musicals, the songs from Cats are great fun and crying out to be danced to.

EduCated · 25/07/2019 19:35

I’m a believer, of which ever version you fancy.

ScreamingValenta · 25/07/2019 19:36

MyFlabberIsAghast Good idea with Kate Bush - do you think Them Heavy People might cut it?

MyFlabberIsAghast · 25/07/2019 19:36

Plus there are a lot of Madonna songs, particularly early ones, that you can't help but dance to. I'm thinking Get Into The Groove, Material Girl, True Blue....I could go on forever

BelleSausage · 25/07/2019 19:36

My DD loves Cyndi Lauper ‘Girls just want to have fun’.

They won’t know what it means!

ClashCityRocker · 25/07/2019 19:37

Shotgun...can picture him but can't remember the name.

The one that goes 'ill be ridin shotgun... Underneath the hot sun'

For some reason little kids love that one.

SiddaleeWalker · 25/07/2019 19:37

@NaughtToThreeSadOnions good suggestion I think I have enough Ringo whimsy for this edition (had planned to end with Goodnight from The White Album). A definite contender for Now That’s What I Call 3 though Grin
@ScreamingValenta Jump by The Pointer Sisters ooh, now you’re talking
@Tooold Cotton Eye Joe seems to be perineal kids fave, her parents will love me!

She also loves ‘Shotgun’ by George Esra.

She’s 3 BTW.

BelleSausage · 25/07/2019 19:39

Ooh, also Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might Be Giants.

chilledteacher · 25/07/2019 19:39

When I was slightly younger than this age I loved Karma Chameleon and would jump around to it singing "Gomma, Gomma, Gomma" apparently.

MyFlabberIsAghast · 25/07/2019 19:39

When I was little I LOOOVED the Linda Lewis version of Its In His Kiss
