Is my neighbour a little bit bonkers or.......

My neighbour gave birth to her first baby 2 weeks ago. I've always got on really well with them, so i bought a little gift for her and baby.
This morning she was in her garden at the same time as me and after exchanging pleasantries, she invited me in ( i have never actually been inside her home before ) to see baby ( ooh she's gorgeous ) so i popped round with the gift, which she was delighted with.
She has a labrador dog, who is lovely, very well trained and looked after.
However, it was wearing sports socks on each paw / leg!!
i was, well, surprised. I actually asked her why it was wearing socks, she replied that she has always made it wear socks in the house which she changes and washes daily, but he has to wear grey ones so she doesn't get them and her husbands mixed up.
When the dog wants to go outside they are removed, then put back on when it goes back inside.
I didn't quite know what to say, i mean, what could i say??
Does anyone else do this with their dog?? I don't.
Is my neighbour bonkers or is it a new trend that i'm not aware of?
My head hurts now trying to work it out and my sides hurt from laughing.

Note. She doesn't come across as bonkers normally, she and her husband are very nice.

Does she have wood flooring? The sound of our dog's paws on our wood floor drives me mad! Not made him were socks yet - might give it a try.

TheQueef · 27/06/2019 12:00

I tried those dog shoes on our dear departed standard 🐩
He walked like Mr Soft in them and refused to get out of the car at the park.

Delightfully bonkers Grin

Love it!!

DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 12:08

She has carpet in the lounge and hallway / stairs, i don't know about the rest of the house as i only went into those 2 places.
I've got this ridiculous image in my head of it popping a pair, or 2 pairs of slippers on and sitting in a chair while puffing a pipe or something.

Which potentially makes me as bonkers as her. Grin

@Lightsong Your post almost finished my ribs. I have visions of your dog giving it scooby (sock clad ) legs when it tries to run on the wood floor.

@TheQueef.
I don't blame him, i mean the amount of street cred he would have lost among his peers.

I never thought of that @DogbertDogglesworth although it might be worth giving it a try just to see him imitate Scooby Do!

CampfireZen · 27/06/2019 12:43

Crikey. Who knew?
Apparently, 'Dog Traction Socks' really are a thing...

newmomof1 · 27/06/2019 12:47

Does she have leather sofas? I wonder if it's to stop the dog scratching the furniture

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 27/06/2019 12:50

Ha

Bonkers or not I love it .

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 27/06/2019 12:50

I’ve not a clue why she’s doing it but it’s made me laugh.

If I tried it with my Glodie they’d forever be wet as she likes mouthing socks Grin she’s never put a hole in one yet but you can’t leave them around her or she’ll get them.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 27/06/2019 12:51

Goldie. Not Glodie. This phone has some odd autocorrects Hmm

DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 12:52

They were normal sports socks @CampfireZen
That's what made it seem even funnier.

No@newmomof1, they are jumbo cord.

My mother's dog had to wear socks because he had a problem with his paws - my mother would put ointment on the paws and then socks on him to stop him licking the ointment. When she put the socks on him he would creep into the corner of the room lie down with head right in the corner and cover his eyes with his paws at the shame of it all Grin

steppemum · 27/06/2019 12:54

Oh I love it!

I think I need a set for my dog when he coems in. My kitchen floor looks like a mud bath all winter.
But it would mean I had to remove them every single time he went out for a wee. (unless I could get him to put some shoes on....)

DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 12:56

@newmomof1 They are jumbo cord.

I can only assume its to protect the carpet Confused

It's an obvious solution. Obviously it's totally bonkers as well. Does it have Christmas socks?

BlueEyedPersephone · 27/06/2019 13:01

I think it might be to prevent outside germs going on floors for when baby is crawling- yes is bonkers

CampfireZen · 27/06/2019 13:06

"They were normal sports socks @CampfireZen

True, OP!

Well, as you've already taken her new baby a present, it would be really rude not to follow that up with a new pair of socks for the dog: wonder what design would be the least canine-appropriate?
Grin

LazyFace · 27/06/2019 13:11

I don't think it's more bonkers than washing the dogs legs when they come in the house. Not sure how the dog doesn't take them off though.

OhJustElfOff · 27/06/2019 13:16

This is brilliant, but how do they not slip down? I have considered a full outfit for my ddog when inside to stop the hairs falling out all over the floor but after seeing this I'm wondering about the possibility of a footed romper with socks on the front paws, it would be so clean around here.

Soola · 27/06/2019 13:20

My old dog liked to wear one of my bra’s indoors.

BabyWitch · 27/06/2019 13:20

Bonkers? I think this woman is a genius 🙌

Meyoumeanmeh · 27/06/2019 13:24

Poor dog! It must be really uncomfortable having them on all the time. It won’t be able to give itself a good scratch with its paws covered. They also sweat through their pads on the paws so surely wearing sock won’t be doing it any good.
Maybe she doesn’t want it’s dirty paws on the carpet but it is very odd.
