Is my neighbour a little bit bonkers or.......

My neighbour gave birth to her first baby 2 weeks ago. I've always got on really well with them, so i bought a little gift for her and baby.
This morning she was in her garden at the same time as me and after exchanging pleasantries, she invited me in ( i have never actually been inside her home before ) to see baby ( ooh she's gorgeous ) so i popped round with the gift, which she was delighted with.
She has a labrador dog, who is lovely, very well trained and looked after.
However, it was wearing sports socks on each paw / leg!!
i was, well, surprised. I actually asked her why it was wearing socks, she replied that she has always made it wear socks in the house which she changes and washes daily, but he has to wear grey ones so she doesn't get them and her husbands mixed up.
When the dog wants to go outside they are removed, then put back on when it goes back inside.
I didn't quite know what to say, i mean, what could i say??
Does anyone else do this with their dog?? I don't.
Is my neighbour bonkers or is it a new trend that i'm not aware of?
My head hurts now trying to work it out and my sides hurt from laughing.

Note. She doesn't come across as bonkers normally, she and her husband are very nice.

I expected this to be socks for outdoor wear, having known a boxer dog who wore them because he was allergic to grass Hmm. Fair play to her if she's found a sloution that works for her. Bet she's not still doing it in 18 months with a toddler peeling them off the sleeping dog though. Grin

DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 13:26

Oh lordy, will you lot stop it. I'm crying here laughing.
Bra's? has your dog got mahoosive gonads or something? @Soola is he called Buster? Grin

I don't know @TremblingFanjo i will look nearer xmas. If it does, it will finish me, i swear Grin

No @BlueEyedPersephone The dog is around 3 years old and she said she had always made it wear them.

Bonkers.

But seeing my dog walk through his own wee today and then walk into the house... I get it!

DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 13:31

I too was really worried about whether he is able to scratch which is central to dog happiness.

iseveryusernametakenorwhat · 27/06/2019 13:40

Grin I've tried dog socks on my dog because he found our floors slippery and he's arthritic. However he walked like he was stepping on lava. Now he just has to walk slow and try not to slip.

DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 13:43

@iseveryusernametakenorwhat i've just managed to compose myself and now you've set me off again with that image of your dog...except in my head he's moonwalking backwards. Grin

Slightly off-topic, but reminds me:
friend's sister-in-law did recently make our jaws drop by claiming she bought 'hygiene pants' for their dog, to prevent marked sofa covers when she was in season (the dog, not the friend's sister-in-law...at least, I hope Confused).

Anyone else admit to such???
So many questions.

DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 13:45

Well, that puts a whole new slant on period pants @CampfireZen Imagine the advert for those?

When I had 7 cats, I pondered buying some of these - I need never have dusted again.

Long before the days of dog fashion, when I was a teenager, I was witness to something far more bonkers than dog socks while in the queue for a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. It was pouring with rain and everyone was huddled under the awning in a queue five people wide that went all the way round the building. A well-dressed gentleman in a suit and tie appeared from one of the mansion blocks opposite with an old English sheepdog dressed in a child's yellow raincoat, matching sou'wester, wellingtons and waterproof trousers. As he walked past, the crowd went quiet and a Mexican wave of silence went around the building as he came into view.

I can understand sharing an apartment with a giant wet dog might not be very nice but waterproof trousers?!! How does that work?

DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 13:50

Oh god @runoutofnamechanges too funny Grin
I'm gonna stick a duster on each of my dogs paws, she can clean the floor as she goes Grin

I don't understand how some people can be so staunch about people taking shoes off in the house, but then let their pets wander in and out the house. Clearly bringing in everything that the shoes would...

So actually this makes sense if she's the "shoes off to protect my carpet" type.

DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 13:55

She will look like she's skating, similar to this @runoutofnamechanges

That episode never fails to crack me up.

DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 13:57

I don't know if she has that rule @OhNoooNotAgain it's the first time i've ever been inside her home. I took mine off anyway as i always do.

My dog wears doggy pants in season! When they arrived I was shocked to find they came with little sanitary towels! 100% true lol!

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 27/06/2019 14:15

When I first got our Chihuahua im ashamed today I bought him dog wellies Blush He looked at me with disdain and eased them off on by one then fucked off outside to wee in the rain happily barepawed Grin

DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 14:19

Dog wellies....you need to be up there with the rain mac wearing dog @ChihuahuaMummy1
It's a wonder he didn't chew them to bits in a fit of strop Grin

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 27/06/2019 14:21

He was very put out that I tried to humiliate him!

usernameuser · 27/06/2019 14:24

They also sweat through their pads on the paws so surely wearing sock won’t be doing it any good.

I thought that too. Poor thing will be sweltering in this heat

runoutofnamechanges · 27/06/2019 14:58

Poor thing needs a couple of pairs of these or to be allowed to walk around as nature intended. Or maybe you could buy some for her husband so the dog is in socks and her DH in paws.

Is my neighbour a little bit bonkers or.......
DogbertDogglesworth · 27/06/2019 15:03

He should join forces with TheQueefs dog @ChihuahuaMummy1 He lost street cred among his furry friends too.

Its a wonder our dogs don't sign themselves into Battersea Dogs Home to escape lunatic owners. ( i include myself in that )

< tries and fails to compose myself>

But how do they stay up? I’m imagining masking taped sports socks on a well behaved lab.

federationrep · 27/06/2019 15:04

Well our dog eats socks so imagine how delighted he'd be if I presented him with his own pair of pair of socks. As for the vet bills.......
