I’ve decided to start listening to podcasts as I work, drive, walk the dog etc. and saw a thread yesterday about some true crime ones - Casefile, They Walk among us, and others.
Those look good, but I’d like some more recommendations, too.
I’m interested in... anything really: history, science, nature, current affairs, comedy, mysteries, crime, scary stuff.

Which podcasts do you like?
Thanks 🙂

I've been listening to Astonishing Legends recently, about Dyatlov Pass, very interesting! Also their episodes on the disappearance of Amelia Earhart were good and the perfect introduction to another podcast Chasing Amelia Earhart. I like mysteries!!

Lycanthropology · 25/06/2019 23:30

That sounds right up my street, gemdrop, thank you. 😊

Try Alfie Moore ‘fair cop’ comedian and ex cop. Gives real life examples of jobs he went too, really good

Current affairs- I like Ed Miliband's Reasons to be cheerful.
Health science - Dr Rangan Chatterjee feel better live more
Crime - Serial

helly29 · 25/06/2019 23:34

Also loads of radio 4 science and comedy!

FromEden · 25/06/2019 23:36

The unexplained and astonishing legends for scary/creepy stuff. Last podcast on the left also for creepy and true crime stuff. Lore is interesting too

SpaceCadet4000 · 25/06/2019 23:37

This Land by Crooked Media- they're only halfway through the series, but it's really good. There's an upcoming US Supreme Court ruling, spurred by a single murder case, that's going to judge whether basically half of the land in Oklahoma actually belongs to native Americans.

Containers- it sounds boring but it's mindblowing. It's about how the innovation of the shipping container radically changed the world.

The Dream- great if you have a morbid fascination with multi-level marketing

Dr Death- about a really shit surgeon who somehow evaded the authorities for years.

winnerwiner · 25/06/2019 23:38

Uncivil is great, myths and untold stories about the civil war. It’s aimed at Americans but still very informative. The assassination about Benazir Bhutto, really informative. Where should we begin with Esther Perel, basically listening in on marriage guidance counselling, really sad stuff. Revisionist history, Malcolm gladwell was really informative. If you like scary though, s town is just a remarkable journey to the underbelly of poor America. I love true crime though too, dr death was chilling as was the teachers pet! (The dog is super young and needs a lot of walking, so I listen to loads!)

Lycanthropology · 25/06/2019 23:41

Thank you all, these sound awesome. I think the dog will be getting some very long walks from now on!

Fortunately with Fi and Jane - Fi Glover and Jane Garvey talking about stuff, with guests, in a lovely and insightful way

ohapples · 25/06/2019 23:49

The killer thorn of gypsy rose by dr Phil, The drop out, doctor death on a lighter note - the high low, late night woman’s hour

Emerald4512 · 25/06/2019 23:51

Sh###ed, married, annoyed. Very funny!

Cooloncraze · 25/06/2019 23:52

Julia & Jericha

Lycanthropology · 25/06/2019 23:57

My list is getting a lot longer!

Has anyone listened to any “In Our Time” podcasts? (R4 with Melvyn Bragg) they look really good, but I wonder if they’re a bit dry!

Jason manford Show and That Peter crouch podcast are both quite funny and an easy listen.

Kittekats · 26/06/2019 00:05

Alfie Moore Fair Cop was good but only ever managed to find one episode. Anyone know how to get the rest?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/06/2019 00:07

"My dad wrote a porno" is funny

Lycanthropology · 26/06/2019 00:11

Just found this, Kittekats... looks like you can only listen, not download though. Be fine for at home, maybe.

I really enjoyed a series called Invisibilia.about all the little things that drive us as people. An interesting listen. Enjoyed serial too

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/06/2019 05:52

I found Death in Ice valley pretty tedious, lots of import given to something which wasn’t really very significant after all.

Reply all took me through lots of things yesterday. It’s American, very conversational, quite nice in a ‘don’t have to be paying attention all the time’ kind of way. The episode about Alex Jones was funny.

ComeOnGordon · 26/06/2019 06:04

Some radiolab ones are amazing. Also like this American life for when I walk an hour then I don’t have to touch my phone the whole time.
Sometimes like Dax Shepard armchair expert - he’s had some really interesting guests on
