I need a fan that doesn’t make stupid noises! Anyone?

Every fan I buy ends up squeaking it making annoying vibrating noises and it’s driving me crazy. Last year I bought a metal one from Argos as hadn’t tried one. It’s currently on and sounds like tin cans banging about. Please help me!!! I don’t have the funds for the dyson one FYI!

We can see this thread is a few years old so some of the suggestions may be out of stock, but we’ve recently updated our best tower fan and best pedestal fan pages if you’re looking for something to keep your home cool this summer.

We also have guides to the best handheld fan and desk fan too, if you’re looking for something more compact and budget-friendly. We hope they help.

Meaco one from Amazon. About £100 and excellent. Oscillates sideways and up/down. 12speeds virtually silent.
It was recommended on here and it really is fantastic.

£100?! Wow! To be fair Iv probably spent more than that last summer! I don’t mind some noise, I appreciate they aren’t silent but always after a week or so they start creaking and moaning and waking me up!

Have you tried a tower fan?

Inbedbynine · 26/06/2019 05:33

flurgle have just read the reviews..... looks good!

cupotea no I haven’t as due to layout of my room the air wouldn’t touch me as it would be on the floor obviously and my bed is a divan so it’s tall and I couldn’t get any of the air on me?

We got some stand up ones last week from B&Q and they are pretty quiet, I know what you mean about the creak! The ones we got last year from Tesco did that. They are now in the loft.

I'm not good with links let me see if I can find them.

The link says tower but it's not it's a stand up.

disneyspendingmoney · 26/06/2019 05:47

If you take the grille off the fan and apart WD40 on the axle where it goes into the motor that'll help reduce the squeek and if you wipe the dust build up off the blades that helps reduce the chop-chop noise

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/06/2019 05:47

A Dyson airblade?

Inbedbynine · 26/06/2019 05:52

I can’t afford a dyson!

It’s the plastic that squeaks, I don’t think wd40 would help that would it? The metal one in my room last night is very very loud but powerful but the metal was vibrating despite putting it on a towel? Literally sounds like tin cans wobbling beside each other, would wd40 change that? Will look at link thanks.

I find the ones on stands are just as bad? Lull you into a false sense of security, them on and all good, first night good, after about a week they all creak!

How tall is your bed? I have a tower fan that is about 4ft tall. I get plenty of air from it in bed

TapasForTwo · 26/06/2019 06:29

Just jealous that you have hot weather. 13 degrees and pissing down here.

ExpletiveDelighted · 26/06/2019 06:54

We have a very old tower one, also a tall bed - we clear space on a chest of drawers at the foot of the bed and stand it on that so we get the full benefit. I'd be very happy with 13° and pissing down right now.

Inbedbynine · 26/06/2019 08:11

Due to space and where things are in the room it wouldn’t work plus I’ve found the tall fans the same as the desk top ones.

Not sure how high, I would have to measure it, when I sit on it my feet don’t touch the floor though Grin

It’s roasting, hot and sweaty and just gross here. Desperately want the rain! Meant to reach 31 Saturday.

There is tower ones designed still get you in bed but don't know about prices.
