If you’re in your late forties do you ever wake up and not feel like shit?

Seems like every morning I get out of bed feeling stiff and sore and like I haven’t slept properly.
Is this just what happens when you’re 47 and does it ever get better?

I’m 47. Most days, I awake feeling rough but I do have an autoimmune disease which, when it flares, gives me rough mornings.

I’m less head and neck achy since I bought an ergonomic pillow. But I’m definitely achier than say 3-5 years ago, and my Lupus is more active in the past year. I attribute this to peri-menopause.
It’s the bone-soaking fatigue, not a sleepy tiredness but just an inability to think and create the way I used to, which gets to me. Sad

I think sharing beds sucks.
I’d love my own room and space.
I’m very aware of DH in the bed. He’s a large man and a heavy snorer. I don’t think this helps.

We now have a huge bed, a mattress with memory foam that doesn't wobble when dh moves, i wear earplugs and an eye mask. I have my own duvet cover so dh cant steal it. Bliss.

44 and wake up every morning at 6 and do a yoga class from 7-8, then head to work and get home around 7 and go to bed around 11. I do like a little nap at the weekends on the couch for an hour in the afternoon if I can fit it in. My body is stiff but that's because I push myself at yoga. Definitely diet, sleep and exercise are the most important things to get right in life. If you are on top of those everything else works itself out. I started yoga as I wanted to be able to tie my shoes and do stuff when I am in my 70's.

@BernardoTeashop have you had your blood pressure checked? Feeling dizzy after lying or sitting down can sometimes be low blood pressure.

No, I feel great in the mornings at least at this time of year. 48, very post menopausal. Have Graves’ disease but thyroid slowed down to normal after we irradiated it, twice. Smoke heavily and have shocking diet but I do believe in early nights and spend lots of time outside.

59, male, non drinker. I feel pretty good most days, although my leg injuries mean the first 10 minutes upright are a bit creaky. Tramadol helps enormously.

With regards to the tests, have you seen the results or have you just been told they’re fine/normal?

I would ask for your results - these should also include the ranges that your health authority measures against. Often, you can be only a couple of “points” away from a problem being indicated and you’ll be told that your results are fine. However even the mid point of the range could be miles away from where you actually are.

At least this way, you could keep an eye on where you think there could be an issue - and you’ll have something to compare against if you have further tests in the future.

I have underactive thyroid and pernicious anaemia - both of these were diagnosed after pushing for tests and seeing the results - and only after a separate nurse asking me about my symptoms and suggesting the tests (before the days of being able to google symptoms). The actual GP had been telling me I was just depressed and sent me away with anti depressants.

Push to get your results/ranges as, more and more nowadays, it seems that women need to take control of their medical information to even start to be listened to with regards to their health.

I'm 45 and no, I don't feel like this any more. A little stiff sometimes if a) I'm sleeping in a crappy bed somewhere else or b) I've done a tough workout the day before, but normally I feel great.

I don't eat gluten (I banished it from my diet six years ago and feel masses better as a result), I don't eat any junk food, I have no caffeine after about 4pm, I run 3x a week and I do ballet. I do eat sugar (but trying to cut down), and I rarely drink alcohol. I've really overhauled my diet and exercise in the past five years and it's made a huge difference!

I'm 48 and until last year that's just how I felt.

But since January I've improved my diet, dramatically cut my sugar intake, started running, lost a stone, started yoga and meditation and wake up feeling great.

this is me and I JUST got my blood test results back.

Vitamin d THROUGH THE FLOOR as was b12. I'm severely anemic.

Worth getting things checked I say.

I feel great if I don't drink the night before (or 2 days in a row - I can get away with 1 night), if I have several early nights in a week. Yoga really helps. Eating not heavy meals before bed- I'm best if I don't eat at all in the evening. Peppermint tea. Dull but works and you feel amazing the next day.

I have a new bed, mattress and bedroom which are really lovely.

If I drink, over-exercise before bed or have stress in any way, that's it. My sleep is fucked. And I have a dodgy shoulder from skiing and have to be careful how I sleep.

I feel like this. I’m not much older than you. I have no bed. I’ve had to sleep on a sofa for years. I’m not sure if that’s made my back worse or not. My knees, hips and back hurt.

However, I'm currently under investigation for arthritis, and my symptoms fit RA to a tee. All other bloods came back fine.

Worth getting to your GP. They will take it seriously, and its not normal to feel routinely stiff and sore every morning at this age.

Don't wish to throw this onto a tangent, but has anyone ever tried a tens machine for joint/nerve issues like this? The only time I tried one was in labour and it was ok but my mind wasn't really on it, I have been wondering about trying one now as I'm sure there is a nerve component as well as a muscle one to some pain like this.

Mid 40s - gave up alcohol, started anti depressants, became vegan feel much better . I suspect one of those factors is more significant than the others 😂

I'm not yet forty (close) and I feel like this in the mornings and whenever I've sat down/stood up for more than 20 minutes - I just seize. I've just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

I'm early 40s and don't have these issues but just wanted to ask a couple of questions

we had this chat in my office and one big difference seems to be that those of us taking oestrogen in some form don't have any joint issues..?

re ashwaganda and magnesium citrate. I have raging insomnia, have done since I was 14. I tried magnesium but it acted as a laxative!!! Does the body get used to it?

also, anything I should be watching out for re ashwaganda - I'd happily try anything for sleep!

I'm 61 and it all went downhill from about 50, I now have Rheumatoid arthritis and several other long term health conditions.
Some mornings feel like I've been beaten up in my sleep, others I feel like I have a hangover when I haven't touched a drop!
I eat well, I'm not overweight and I exercise.

I'm nearly 49 and achey as hell pretty much all the time. I had plantar fasciitis a while back and shoe inserts helped a lot, but my legs and back ache so much. I'm going to try low gluten and sugar for a while as I know I don't digest gluten brilliantly.

I’m in combined HRT Rosa ( two weeks oestrogen and two weeks progesterone) and definitely feel better in the oestrogen weeks
